The only reason that he failed to throw us into an unprecedented (and highly combustible) constitutional crisis is that Mike Pence found his backbone and upheld his oath. Everyone else went along. They tried to hand him the fake electors on the floor of the Senate.-- This was not an idle threat. It was a very near miss. And don't mistake the situation now. The OP covered it, so I don't need to rehash, but because of our near miss they clarified that law regarding the VPs responsibility and eliminate the specious Eastman argument. But that also binds Harris. If those alternate electors come to her backed by state officials (some of whom are friendly to the effort) it creates a gray area where we could very easily end up in contingent election. Ask yourself this, if that threat is a "straw" then why did the MAGA acolytes spend 4 years and millions of dollars to put their people in key positions? It clearly matters to them, so it should be of concern to everyone else. Many otherwise educated voters DO NOT understand how close we came to losing the republic 4 years ago. You are educated, and you don't take that incident seriously.🤷♂️

Eh, I think if someone just tried to stab my, I wouldn't hand them a knife and just hope they don't try again. Rather, one should have every expectation that they will try again. Maybe the difference though is the desired outcomes. I agree that his voter base--definitively--does not have any respect for democracy. If they did, they wouldn't be backing a guy who tried to overthrow it. I lean on this argument to motivate those who are invested in the preservation of democracy. Who see it as important and vital, so they can be aware of what he's done and motivated to turn out and prevent it from happening again.

There's been one shooting incident. And to paraphrase the other poster (and all common sense), if one does not wish to be labeled a threat to democracy, one should have thought of that before literally trying to overthrow democracy. Calling Trump a threat to democracy is no different than calling the sky blue: it's simply fact.

You may not need a bet. Cultists are prone to mass suicide after triggering events. Could get mighty quiet around here. -
Have Democrats Given Up on Men?

I do agree that there are biological differences and that these can be expressed in various ways, and what "is" is based on what came before, but also don't underestimate the influence of modeling. A gun is just an object before you learn what it is. A child who hadn't been exposed to social models wouldn't know what to do with it. You probably saw hundred of "cool" men carrying and using guns before you ever thought to play with one. But what if you had formed your ideas about what a gun was in a media environment in which guns were (nearly) exclusively pictured as a tool for women? Alternatively, consider that in a pre-industrial society, certain jobs required physical strength and that made men (naturally predisposed to be stronger) a scarcer and more valuable commodity for such work. But in a post-industrial society in which labor is increasingly performed by machines labor value by gender is equalizing. Our social status and our jobs and roles and norms are obviously going to shift. It doesn't really have much to do with feminists. Evolution and economics are two halves of the same coin: that which works wins. That which doesn't work is outcompeted and eventually discarded. That's why all these knuckle-draggers are so aggressively misogynistic, calling every successful woman a DEI hire and whatnot. They are mourning the erosion of male privilege, when they acquired value by accident of birth rather than having to earn advantage. Labor is nearing obsolescence and value is increasingly assigned to the ability to think. And most of them simply aren't very good at that. Makes 'em angry. -
Your description of Trump is so wildly off target, yes, I think Republicans (or in your case wanna-be Republicans) do not know what Trump is. The idea that you can elect a would-be fascist who already tried to seize power once as a savior to "return power to the people" is utterly absurd. And it's the same delusion that has ushered so many dictators into power. It's like none of you have ever cracked a history book. But you've got your feelings. People are disaffected with our government and our electoral processes. But rather than thinking we should fix them, a surprising portion of the electorate think a strong-man government that bypasses the people and their representatives is just a lot easier.

Have Democrats Given Up on Men?

Are you really going around sniffing people to try to acquire knowledge of their sex? Because that's what you said. -

Outside of sniffing butts, what's your plan? -

"Feminine and masculine" are social constructs. That's why gender expectations vary widely from culture to culture. And, in fact, while you might wish it otherwise, you believe it yourself. Look at your statement above. In your view it is an objective fact that definitions and associations of masculinity and femininity are changing, hence they are mutable characteristics defined--and constantly redefined--by social pressures. -

You're a total total nut. She's leading in the popular vote and the electoral vote is a dead heat. And you think this means she's "losing so badly"? I guess both candidates are losing so badly.🤪 -

Lol. Read the damn thread. How weird and random was it to suddenly read a definition of anthropomorphize? Pretty weird, right? -- But that's exactly what you did with "underwater." NOBODY mentioned the term "underwater" until you, out of nowhere, apropos of nothing, decided to define it. -

Eh, I'd argue that yes, they deserve some of the credit. A.for creating (or not destroying) conditions for recovery, and B. for aggressive support of specific legislation like the IRA and the CHIPS act. That kind of specific, targeted legislation is very effective as spurring relatively short-term action. We have a major construction boom in several states due to massive economic investments from tech companies. Construction jobs are booming today, with manufacturing and tech jobs to fill those facilities once they are built. -

Trump was impeached. Twice. Trump is a convicted felon with a sentence pending (and more criminal charges awaiting trial). Nobody tried to "hide" Biden. The man was on national TV FFS. The replacement candidate immediately created a competitive race that is a dead heat. The last 4 years (despite your unsupported feelings) have been a remarkably successful recovery--and the data backs that up. Enjoy your medicine. No one should have to suffer from delusions. -

"That's not what anthropomorphize means. Anthropomorphize is a term used to describe the attribution of human characteristics, behaviors, or feelings to non-human things, such as animals, objects, or nature." -

Jeebus. Of course it's not "your term." You're just the one who introduced it as a non-sequitur in this thread, defining it for no reason. You're trolling. -

That nobody used until you decided to define it, for no reason. It bears no relationship to the conversation. Because that's not what "above board" means. Above board means that a process was fair and honest. ^^ Randomly defined words. Just like that. But come to think of it, your participation in this thread is not above board. -

Lol. Great. Any other random words you want to opine on for no reason? Because you are the only one mentioning "underwater." Again, this is a very short thread. Everyone can look up and see what was written. You're just trolling at this point. Because you're not an honest person. Somehow you think it's better for you to make shit up and drag it out than to just admit an obvious mistake and move on.
