Depends on what stocks you buy, if you buy dividend paying stocks they still keep paying you when prices are down and you wait for them to recover. Also, not all stocks follow the market, selection is important, some do a lot better than others when the market in general is down.

The US was behind. USSR First satellite in orbit, launched with an ICBM. 1957 First human in orbit 1960. First lunar probe 1959. Soviet boosters were much more powerful than anything the US had.

Both the US and Soviets had ICBM’s at the time. The Soviets launched the first satellite in 1957. With missiles based in Cuba, the US would have had no warning time of an attack.

ICBM’s were in service by the Cuba missile crisis, long before moon missions. They are based on nuggets, not truth.

The Russians were out front in the space race for years and there certainly was a concern about ICBM's but they are sub orbital and really have nothing to do with orbital or moon missions.

Are you aware of any studies that compare their cancer rates with non astronauts? Wouldn't matter, you wouldn't believe them anyway unless they told you what you wanted to hear. Are you aware that 3/4 of the earth's atmosphere is below 36,000 ft (5.8 miles) so high flying airliners are also exposed to most of any radiation. Probably not.

Yes, radiation is an issue in space flight but the space station orbits well above the earths atmosphere and astronauts have spend over a year there with no ill effects.
