Democrats didn't move to remove their own speaker, Republicans did. It's up to Republicans to come up with a speaker the Democrats can support, not the other way around. If the Republicans do decide to support Jordan, do you think the Democrats should vote for him?

I'm sure the Dems would support a moderate who isn't in the crazy caucuses pocket but that's the Republican's problem and the Dems can't solve it for them.

It is up to the Republicans to come up with a moderate candidate the Democrats can support, not the other way around. Unless you think the Republicans would be OK with the Democrats choosing the speaker.

That is how it used to be but scorched earth partisanship at the expense of governing destroyed it. Republicans control the House, Democrats can only respond to whatever is put before them. They don't control the agenda.

How do we know there hasn't been cross the floor talks but who actually represents the Republicans? Who do the Democrats compromise with? There is no point making deals when you have no idea if they will be respected.

It is how it works. The whole US system of checks and balances requires compromise and compromise is about making deals. If the Republican's in Congress need need help to rein in their crazies then they should ask for it. It is not in the Democrats or the country's best interest for them to just roll over and give the Republicans whatever they want. If the Dems are in a good position here, it is because the Republicans gave it to them and they should take advantage of it to pursue the wishes of the people who elected them.

It is both their jobs. No opposition will give a majority party a carte blanche to do whatever it wants, nor should it. The Democrats do not have the seats to elect a speaker, the Republicans do. This nonsense is not on the Democrats and they are not responsible for whoever becomes speaker. If the Republicans need Democrat support, it is up to them to make the Democrats an offer to get it. Not the other way around.

It isn't anyones responsibility to look after someone else's spoiled child. Certainly not the Democrats responsibility to look after spoiled child Republicans. The Republicans do have a majority, it is their job to provide a speaker, not the Democrats.

All belief systems are man made. Some are based on science, others on faith.

When your mission is to "own the Dems" compromise isn't really an option.
