Government GDP Debt Ratio - What if?
Aristides replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The only reason the US will default is because of partisan politics but if they do, we will be in a shit load of trouble because our economies are so tightly linked. -
Yes they do convert that carbon but how are they supposed to convert the carbon we add to the atmosphere by burning carbon stored in the earths crust for millions of years on top of that produced by existing rotting vegetation and natural sources. Instead of expecting a tree to absorb the carbon from existing life and death, you want it to also handle the carbon from thousands of trees that died millions of years ago. Deforestation just exacerbates the problem. F***k Justin, he is only a politician and he is far from being my hero. That's the problem with you guys, you can't get past your politics. It taints every thought you have.

The Disparity of CEO's and Workers salaries

Then the will refuse to play on Canadian teams. -
All the data is pointing in that direction. Like I said, in spite of all the evidence that says otherwise, you can deny smoking gives you cancer until it gives it to you. Yes, you find it satisfying to ignore science and what is now decades of data and work. It is much easier to live in a world you invented than in the real world. We already know that.

It has been laid out but hey, smoking doesn't give you cancer until you get it. Right? There are sections between Abbotsford and Chilliwack that are less than 1M above sea level if you look at that map I linked. That flood plain extends all along the Nooksack river to the ocean at Ferndale WA. The only reason it doesn't flood regularly now is because of dikes and pumping stations. 49 KM of dikes and 39 pump stations keep Richmond and the 230,000 people who live there from being flooded. Do we have 100 years? The time scale of the predictions given 18 years ago in An Inconvenient Truth turned out to be premature but now data is showing an acceleration and one can reasonably expect it will accelerate more as the planet warms even more. More rapid ice melt and increase thermal expansion of oceans. That's what a tipping point is and why scientists are alarmed.

Things are worth what the market will bear. If the money doesn't go into the athletes pocket, it will go into the team owners. Either way, the average Joe doesn't benefit. -
Battle over Water Rights
Aristides replied to impartialobserver's topic in State Politics in the United States
So is California losing population or gaining it? Is it a shithole because people are moving in or leaving? You guys can't seem to make up your minds, it's one or the other depending on what narrative you are trying to peddle. -
Battle over Water Rights

Drive down I5 and I99 from Stockton to LA and the land between. Thousands of acres of dead farmland because drought has forced government to pick and choose which areas and crops get water. Arizona is facing the same thing as more and more people move into the state and urban areas are demanding the water farmers need. Never mind drought conditions that are compounding the problem. Rising sea levels are increasing salinity levels in soil and threatening Florida farmland. https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/opinion/2022/03/01/florida-farmers-vulnerable-salt-need-prepare-rising-seas/6974940001/ If you think food is expensive now, just wait. -
Who collects your data and analyzes it? What are their qualifications other than a big mouth and an opinion? It doesn't take more than a couple of brain cells to understand that if you pump billions of tons of stored carbon into the atmosphere, the existing carbon cycle can't handle it. Tree dies and rots. New tree absorbs the carbon from rotting tree. All good. Now add the carbon from billions of trees that rotted millions of years ago, was stored in the earths crust and the existing carbon cycle won't be able to handle it. Not only that but we burned down over 18 million hectares of our existing forest just last year. Forest that is no longer able to absorb carbon and dumped a whole bunch more into the atmosphere when it burned.

Banks are public companies, they do not print money or control the money supply. A poorly managed company can go bust at any time. The US has a huge number of banks and they are much less risk averse making failures more common. US banks are in crisis now but it hasn't done much to hurt the strength of the USD.
