This is definitely a winning issue for the Conservatives. It is pretty hard for the Liberals to argue against it ... although they will try. The GST cut shows which of the two main parties is really on the side of average working families. The Liberals tax proposals in the mini-budget will take an extra $7.5 billion out of the treasury. Unfortunately, their tax proposal is slanted towards the higher income brackets. Working families end up better off under the Conservative proposal.

That would be awesome. Hmmm, still time enough to produce that one for the *real* campaign after Xmas. Take note anybody in the Conservative war room...
-
I hear you about the promises. Don't know if i agree about the SSM thing. If it was a *true* free vote there are enough socially conservative Liberals that it could carry the day. Too bad the NDs don't believe in allowing their MPs to vote their conscience. Poor Bev Desjarlais.

While he is at it he can provide that list of which rights guaranteed in the Charter are important and which are disposable! Weren't you going to give me a number for all these "religious zealots" that are "surrounding" the Tories? And a definition of just what you think a religious zealot is? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
-
If I am not mistaken the NDs are running a campaign based on the assumption they won't form government. Seriously, hasn't Layton been touting the effectiveness of ND MPs in a minority situation?
-
That is exactly the line the Conservatives need to take in appealing to working families.

Whether or not you like Harper, stories like this are incredibly good news for the Conservatives. Random CTV Link
-
Let me guess, he got there as Finance Minister - not Prime Minister! As I have said many times before here. Martin was a very capable Finance Minister who has done a bad, bad job as Prime Minister. Such is life Paul....

Garneau could end up being a huge albatross around the Liberals neck. Uhhh, sorry Marc but sponsorship is a reasonable issue for this campaign. Lecturing people that it is time to move on only hurts the Liberals chances...

Harper calls for special prosecutor to watch gov't
shoop replied to Kiraly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Thelonious, The proposed role for the special prosecutor would be to take the place of parliament in deciding when certain cases are referred to the parliament. Nice use of 'police state', are you trying to say the Conservatives are seriously interested in creating a police state? Try staying with the facts and keeping the histrionics to a minimum. -
Boy you got us bring up Stockwell Day! Is the Liberal idea well that dry they have to reach back six years for an attack? They are releasing one policy at a time in order to stay in the news constantly. Doesn't seem that strange...
-
Ahhh, but there is a difference Shakey. Harper was actually "answering a question", got his views out there and now it is a done issue for the rest of the campaign. Garneau made a tough fight in his riding that much tougher and hurt the Liberals province-wide in Québec. The other pressing social issues line is soooo 2004. Haven't you read the memo, the Liberals are fighting this campaign as the party best suited to deal with the unity issue. Until they start losing really badly....
-
Ahhh scribs, you miss the point. If you support the Liberals or NDs it is fair to call somebody intolerant for whatever view they have you don't like. "It's about the Charter, stupid." Applies when it is those sections of the Charter they like. I also agree that none of the national leaders are truly intolerant, of rights guaranteed in the Charter. They don't appear to have much time for each other though.

I agree with this cut, but also agreed with the GST in the first place. The GST replaced the MST which gave an unfair advantage to imported goods over goods manufactured in Canada. Now that the fiscal situation is under control let's take the time to create more wealth in Canada. This wealth cration will lead to more taxes being available for funding social programs.

It is a way for the Conservatives to prove they are for working families. Those 'persuadable' Ontario voters who will determine the next PM. PS. Could the Liberals *please* have Marc Garneau speak more often about how sponsorship is a thing of the past...
-
Great post Sharkman. Typical of the left. You are a bad, bad person if you don't like the constitutional rights we think are correct. At the same time we will denegrate you and use offensive terminology and hatred to demean those who exercise their constitutional rights we don't agree in.

Harper calls for special prosecutor to watch gov't
shoop replied to Kiraly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sorry, my bad for that. I think I am doing ok. CBC is a particular axe to grind of mine, just because it is so blatantly biased. Such is life... -
I think that would be a great ad. The image of an envelope full of cash in a restaurant with questions about sponsorship...
-
Hmmm, the Liberal mini-budget forecasted five years into the future but when the CPC does it it equals "ohhhh sometime"? No thanks for a progressive tax cut that will help the average Canadian family more than Martin's buddies on Bay street? What a party of the people you have there.
-
So you favour tolerance, except when it comes time to practicing freedom of religion as guaranteed in the Charter of Rights? Can you please provide us with a list of all the freedoms guaranteed in the Charter you support and those which you oppose?
-
The Conservatives keep rolling out there platform with smart, saavy policies that will sell well to the persuadables in Ontario who will decide the election. Random CBC Link Tough to fight this one. A truly progressive tax cut that will help all Canadians. Goodale's claims that this cut will help higher income Canadians more than lower income Canadians is sad and patently false when you look at the savings as a percentage of disposable income.

Harper calls for special prosecutor to watch gov't
shoop replied to Kiraly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As I stated elsewhere on this board, the CBC is the only news outlet that used this angle on the story. Other outlets mentioned it, but they gave the idea the majority of the time instead of immediately attacking the Conservatives as a knee-jerk response. -
Day 1 in the conservative parallel world
shoop replied to Bakunin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why exactly am I a redneck err? You can't debate so you resort to name calling? Nice, typical of the left... -
Gilles Duceppe perpetuated the lie. Harper was responding to a question, period. Harper got the issue out of the way, except for diehard hacks like normanchateau. C'est la vie. Jane Taber in the Globe gave him a thumbs up on handling the issue. Get it out of the way earlier and move on to other things, like cutting the GST.

Harper calls for special prosecutor to watch gov't

Yet another example of how sad and bereft of ideas the Liberals are. Can't think of a valid reponse? Resort to knee-jerk anti-Americanism.
