Wow, what terrible paternalism. Is "encouraging people to engage in extremely anti-social behaviour" really enough to get people banned from coming into the country? We all know that excessive playing of video games can lead to extremely anti-social behaviour. Does that mean that Bill Gates should be banned from Canada because Microsoft sells the X-box? Don't get the logic? Neither do I! Try and use something a little more defensible than "extremely anti-social behaviour." Wow the Liberals are certainly in trouble...

Gun control or mind control?
-
Where does it stop? Where do you step in and tell me what I can listen to? The analoby between the cleric and the rapper is sad and pathetic. Like most of the Liberals reasons for not agreeing to the NDs original motion.
-
Are you reallly that arrogant? If we don't agree with the LPCs proposed timing for the election we aren't "bright"? That is the kind of ignorance that will turn off the population like 1984. Thanks.
-
He has! There have been a series of releases. Check them out. www.conservatives.ca Also an advantage to governing, their new policies are guaranteed to get more ink than an opposition proposal.

When I first heard this news I thought, "Oh my God, who is the dumb rednecked CPC MP saying this crap?!" Then I heard it was a Liberal. BA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Random CTV Story

Actually, Harper has been stealing a page out of Chretien's book 2 months to 6 months out from the 1993 election. He has let the governing party hog the national spotlight in a series of, seemingly endless gaffes, while working the grassroots, energizing local campaigns and getting tons of ink locally throughout the country. What gaffes you say? "We can't offend religious sensibilities during an election!" Nice try Paul, you can't pick *ANY* date in 2006 where a campaign wouldn't overlap some religious holiday. "An opposition motion to schedule a date for an election three months in advance is *UNPRECEDENTED*!" So was a Prime Minister appearing on primetime to beg for another eight months to govern, but you did it anways! "There can't be a major meeting of international heads of state during an election." But Paul, you called the 2004 election with an international forum you went to in the middle of the campaign. What has changed? "Fitty cent shouldn't be allowed in Canada because he promotes gun violence." Thank you Dan McTeague, that has gotta be one of the most idiotic things a lifetime backbencher could say within a week of an election being called. "We are sorry *BAD* members of our party got caught stealing $1.14 Million of taxpayers money. We will pay it back!" From the rumour about the LPCs finances it is a good thing they didn't get caught stealing $10 Million, they probably wouldn't have enough money for it. Welcome to the PMO Mr. Harper. I bite, what have the Conservatives done to build their "brand" in time for this election? I have heard nice words about integrity in gov't but you can't run a government only on 'integrity' - you need ideas that address problems that are of more immediate concern to Canadians. And the Liberals seem to grabbing the important ones. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

All I gotta admit is you have the simplistic knowledge of building brand identity that most political pundits in Canada do. Stand by my statement that the Liberals got incredible help winning the campaign in 1993, granted the PCs went out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot.

Ralph Klein Says Liberals Will Win Election
shoop replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gotta love Klein's line *IF* he were a betting man. What a joke! He is in the casino in downtown Edmonton at least once a week whenever the Legislature is in session. He got drunk off his butt there before going to the homeless shelter and throwing money at the poor dudes and telling them to get jobs. -
There is a big thing between putting forth an agenda and having the 'establishment' tell the public you have put forth an agenda. The Conservatives have laid out their agenda time and again. It is all here. www.conservatives.ca If the media failed to cover Chrétien's fabled Red Book in 1993, maybe Kim Campbell would have been more than a footnote in history. (Heaven help us...)

Max, You would be right if err were here to actually have a debate. Alas, he is here to snipe at the CPC and ignore the rules of the forum.

Promised Liberal Tax Cuts - What will they buy ?
shoop replied to err's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Like Naomi Klein, I gave up on reading McQuaig after reading two of her columns. I wouldn't pad her little socialist bank account by buying her book. My comments are accurate. -
How 'bout shoving the neo-con insult. Doesn't really fit and goes more to prove your ignorance than anything else. Where have the Conservatives made this argument to which you refer? The Federal Accountability Act is a large piece of what the Conservative's will do when in office. www.conservative.ca Oh yeah, the Web site also has links to eight other policy areas. So much for not telling you how they will govern. But thanks for coming out.

Promised Liberal Tax Cuts - What will they buy ?
shoop replied to err's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't really get it, but short answer is no. Mulroney took the first steps in the direction of cutting the deficit. Yes, he probably didn't go far enough but his was the first government in what 30 years to run an operating surplus. You must truly despise Mulroney then? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> -
Promised Liberal Tax Cuts - What will they buy ?
shoop replied to err's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Didn't McQuaig lose all credibility with Shooting the Hippo? As much as she argued that debt growth was due more to interest building on itself than social programs, she missed a major point. Debt has to be paid, it isn't a discretionary line item. btw Stan, I'll take big companies and Mike Harris. -
I think I might have found the poll your local paper is referring to. Decima released a poll last Tuesday, with some strange results. They asked two questons. Intentions to vote today vs. intentions to vote in Jan/Feb. The national numbers were the same. Yet for some reason the Liberals lose four points with the second question in Québéc and gain *eight* in BC. All very odd, but your local paper could be referring to the 42% number released for BC in this second question...
-
Credit to Paul Wells. He brings up some excellent points in his column this week. He pretty much refutes every argument the Liberals are making against an election before when *they* want one. Random Paul Wells column. This one is probably the biggest reason there will be an early election.
-
I haven't seen any polls showing the Liberals that high in Vancouver. You got a source on that one?

It's more straight outta, don't vote for him he's scary. Regardless, they were both winning strategies...

The CPC has no need to dirty their hands..
shoop replied to I Miss Trudeau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I kinda thought that, but it doesn't make much sense in context... -
I wonder how the plant closings would effect the election. One would think that would play into the NDS hands, but you never know. Regardless, GM is in serious, serious trouble. Is a takeover by Toyota possible?

Thanks Greg! Good work with that! ---------------------------------------------------------------- PocketRocket I was puzzled by that one too. I think he was trying to refer to the 'plumbers' who were Nixon's henchmen during Watergate. Alas, IMT couldn't even get that right. .....????? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> -
Easy, just pointing out an error in the logic of the poll....

shoop replied to I Miss Trudeau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper was referring to Martin, and other Liberals, voting record's in the house of commons. The incredible leap between that, and the filth in this pamphlet, is sad. IMT was trolling plain and simple. (Not to defend the release, it was a mistake and in very bad taste.) Anybody who actually saw the CPC press release that caused the original furor would not see any similarity between the wacko and Harper. Alas, postings like IMT's help make that connection a little clearer for people who don't take the time to read things themselves. -

To each their own. I recognize my reaction to IMT's original post was a little strong, but what can you do? The fact that IMT and err tried to defend it was that much more outrageous.
