  1. Maybe people who are in the same financial condition as they were in undergrad? The NDs could pick up a few seats, but any of their wins will definitely be at the expensive the Liberals. So it's all good!
  2. Andrew Cohen, prof at Carleton, had a beautiful piece today on what Harper needs to do to win. Cohen is dead right with this one. Let Martin attack, it will come across as increasingly desperate as the campaign goes on. Random Andrew Cohen Article
  3. Easy, it isn't like this is a coup or anything. This is just an outcome of a (Westminster-style) parliamentary democracy. It is just a natural extension of not having fixed election dates. Shouldn't have been a big surprise to anyone who watches Canadian politics. Little to no effect on the Canadian economy. No chance for Quebec to try and separate as a result of this election. The next provincial election in Quebec is another matter though. Best case scenario depends on your political leanings. A conservative government for me. The Liberals proven theft of $1.14 Million in government money makes it time for them to leave.
  4. Touché, but is a promise of lower taxes, honest government (including the federal accountability act) and a plan to offer Canadian parents the opportunity to choose way they want to provide childcare to their children enough of a start?
  5. No doubt. OP said the Liberals are going to win 14 seats in BC?! Hmm last time they won that many, or even close, was 1968. I don't see anything to support this assertion or to refute the poll I posted. Nice try though. Boy things are looking bad for PM if that is the best he can hope for - an historic breakthrough in BC to just barely hold on to a minority.
  6. Your attacks on the Conservatives are ignorant and childish. Hmmm, one prediction Web site has the Conservatives and Liberals losing seats. This gives you support for attacking the CPC while saying nothing against the Liberals? What an odd sense of fairness you have. Here is a poll that calls 16 seats in BC for the Conservatives with another 17 too close to call. http://www.robbinssceresearch.com/polls/poll_210.html Which is right? Who knows, but please tone down the attacks and rhetoric.
  7. Hmmm, didn't Martin go on record opposing SSM, supporting the war in Iraq, actually use a private health care clinic in Canada and supporting continental missile defence before changing his views on all four? Are you really sure you want to get into a battle of *what he said in the past*. Were they bizarre ideas when Martin favoured each of them?
  8. Still missing the point. Look at the speech in its entirety. Besides, Harper hasn't accused Martin of planning to go negative while going negative himself. Take a look at www.conservative.ca for a ton of common sense
  9. Gotta love PM. Took him how many *minutes* to go negative??? Random CBC Link
  10. Goes to show how sad the current state of the Federal Liberals is. There have been three names mentioned on this thread: Garneau, Ignatieff and Rae. Rae is the ony with experience in the House of Commons - and he sat as an ND.
  11. Harper can't attack Martin on SMS or Missile Defence. But he can make sure he is ready to fight back.
  12. The issue is the unusually large volume of trading in shares directly affected by this policy change mere hours before the announcement. Heck, even CBC ran something on it's business page about this.
  13. I've been in Québec for a few months now and one of the things that amazes me is the Québecois take on fiscal federalism. It was an act of faith that Québec paid more into Canada than it got back, until this recent PQ leadership race. Boisclair was the only one to state that Québec actually does get a good financial deal from Canada and has to be ready to tighten the belts if they separate. Good for him ... little cocaine snorter.
  14. Exactly. If you go to www.ctv.ca you see a story on the potential leak of information on the change to income trusts. Nothing on CBC, but there is an article titled "High-profile Liberal, NDP candidates step forward in Toronto." CBC we get it, you don't like the CPC. Can you at least *pretend* to be fair and balanced when operating with taxpayer's money.
  15. Touché, but it looks like this time around there is another set of events that could conspire to put Martin into Stornoway. It basically never happens that a government gains support from just before the call of an election to the day of the election itself. Random CTV link.
  16. There is a pretty common thread running through them. The Liberals baseline appears to be 32-34%, the CPC about 30%, the NDs about 15% and the Bloc looks like it is going to break the 60 seat barrier in Québec. There are enough undecideds out there that this is going to be a very interesting race.
  17. He doesn't come with Martin's baggage in Québec.
  18. Seems kinda weird. I don't see the opposition changing their plans based on anything the CBC does. Maybe the CBC is trying to get the first 'scoop' of the election campaign.
  19. Martin rigged in 2004 and he will do it again this time around. Such is life it's not as if Martin promised to make the nomination process more open. Oh wait he did!
  20. They like the fact that Stephen Harper is an honest man, has credible proposals for fostering a healthy Canadian economy and isn't the head of a party that has *admitted* to stealing at least $1.14 Million of taxpayers money. Besides, not everybody casts their votes bases on the wishes of the gay and lesbian community.
  21. So even Liberal Party of Canada President Mike Eizenga doesn't feel there will be a majority. Hmmm, before the 2004 election they were talking about a record majority and got a minority. What does this mean? CTV Link
  22. I think the Liberals are in trouble. The CPC has got to respond to the Liberals negative stuff, and they will. This income trust story is gonna have legs. The two attempts the Liberals have made to create controversy about the Conservatives have gone no where. Maybe the sympathetic liberal press won't be so sympathetic this time around.
  23. Well, don't even bother trying to reason with Eureka. Simply a blind Liberal who shows no respect for others and hurls insults at every opportunity.
  24. I think you hit the nail on the head. Far too complex for most people to get, or get worked up about. The idea about the RRSPs is right, but it is a very fine line they have to draw. If they don't do it correctly Martin's *lawyers* might send Harper a letter daring him to say it again.
  25. Only if you feel free to be disgusted by the $1.14 Million the Liberals stole and *might* payback.
