Who Will Be In Power on January 23rd?
shoop replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Stan, I would discount that one on a couple levels. I cannot see a coalition minority government working and I can't see the NDP and Liberals holding a majority together. Liberal losses will far surpass NDP gains. Maybe they will have 140 seats between them ... maybe. -
Hmmm, funny how you can never get *real proof* or *evidence* based solely on what somebody posts on a message board. Here is some facts for you. Justice Gomery found that the Liberal Party of Canada was responsible for the theft of $1.14 Million in the sponsorship scandal. The Party has not disputed this. Gomery clearly wasn't a *witch trial*. That amount of money is sickening and the party found guilty of stealing it does not deserve to be elected in the election immediatley following the release of the results.

Of course he is the last of his generation, he is 67! The incredible demands of being Prime Minister necessitate that the next PM be much younger. The question is who will the the new face of the party be. This leadership race will be a hellacious fight between the Martinites and Chretienites, especially if a candidate emerges with majority support from each respective camp.

How many separatists lurk in CPC?
shoop replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gordon Stamp's posts were indefensible. He is gone, good riddance. If you are to believe that Paul Wells broke the story, than Goldring and Harper reacted with incredible speed. They released the news of Stamp's resignation within 2 1/2 hours of the story being broken. No party or leader is perfect. All the people want is decisive leadership and admitting mistakes when they happen. The way the CPC dealt with this is part of the reason why it has faded from the news so quickly. -
HP, Yet again, going on the attack and ignoring a valid point made against you. A Liberal supporter trying to point the CPC as arrogant is sad and disingenuous. Let's be realistic. Since you started here you have been nothing but a mouthpiece for the Liberals. Not saying that is a bad thing, but try to be *honest*. If you look at my posts I favour lower taxes, government leaving choices in the hands of people and I am sickened by the Liberals arrogance and corruption. You could say I have 1.14 million reasons to vote Conservative. Despite protestations to the contrary this board is pretty neutral. There are viewpoints from all along the political spectrum. I have no interest in sites like FreeDominion (despite supporting the Conservatives) or Rabble (because I am not rabidly left wing). Politics is about debate, understanding your opponents views and exposing the flaws in them. *Honestly* your posts indicate that your mind was made up long before you got here.

How many separatists lurk in CPC?
shoop replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I never saw anything about half the CPC being closet separatists. Where does that come from? The Liberals could get Jean Lapierre to lead the charge on the issue. Than again maybe not... The CBC is biased, but cannot completely ignore the wishes of their viewers, or they would lose them all to other outlets. -
Here is a great link from Kinsella. Hope he is right. So many good points here. Kinsella blog

HP, you really don't get it. Go ahead. Make the election about voting against the party that the electorate view as the most arrogant. I really wish you were in the Liberal war room. Your posts are pure gold .... for the Conservatives, NDP and Bloc.

How many separatists lurk in CPC?

Because the Department of Finance and the PMO being investigated for *possibly* leaking information that made certain Bay Street times lots of money is far more newsworthy and of interest to most Canadians. -
At this point you are absolutely right. The only way Martin could last more than six months is to win a majority. He is more like to lose altogether than to win a majority at this point. I find Dryden's name on the list the most intriguing. Despite a pretty piss poor job as a minister he has such star power that he can probably attract a lot of people to his side.

Yeah, it is pretty sad that Eureka's only role on this site is to attack the CPC yet he still gets away with it. He can be like all the other Liberal party *faithful* in the dark days between 1984-1993. Cursing the Canadian people for denying them their right to govern...
-
Is it faux-conservatism or neo-conservativsm? You are confusing me with your inability to grasp your terms of hatred and vile.
-
Yeah, sure. Supporters of opposition parties are soooo mad at the RCMP for investigating suspicious stock tradig they are going to vote Liberal because of it. OMG, that is the most pathetic attempt at spin I have *ever* heard.

Now it depends what you mean by "too many" English-Canadians. The Liberals are up only one point on the national ballot question. Get rid of their 26 point lead in Quebec and that puts the CPC up six to eight points in the rest of Canada. Breaking it down regionally the CPC is looking like they will pick up four seats in the atlantic provinces. At least 15 in Ontario. (With the NDs picking up another 4) Two or three in the prairies. (Net win with the NDs picking up two in SK.) Two or three squeakers for the CPC in Quebec. At this point the CPC loses worst case three seats in BC to the NDs. Couple that with ten Liberal losses in Quebec and here is a good guess at the makeup of the new house. CPC = 117 seats LPC = 103 seats BQ = 60 seats NDP = 28 seats Harper will get a good two years to govern. The Liberals will be fighting their civil war and the bloc won't be in any rush to force an election...
-
That is tough, tough news for Dithers. Expanding the scope of the investigation definitely means that this will be a news item for a few more days. The longer this is at the top of the news the closer Harper gets to 24 Sussex Drive.

Who got kicked out of the Liberal party when they were charged with crimes in Adscam? See that little fact shows the sadness of your show of outrage...

If Harper forms a minority government...
shoop replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Slim, It is because newbie and his martinite buddies miss the point that the CPC will win a minority. The only contribution that he can make to an internet message board qondering *if* Harper gets a minority is to arrogantly say it won't happen. A lot of plausible stuff has been posted on this thread. The key to all of it is that the Liberals will devolve into a civil war if they lose this election, an outcome that is looking increasingly more likely. That much is a given. -
The RCMP is watched and held accountable. For you to claim that the RCMP is interfering in our election goes beyond anything they have done. But please do push that line with the LPC communications team. It really would guarantee a CPC win. Oh yeah, nice to see you moved off the Liberals haven't been charged with anything line. Adscam ain't that easy to forget.

So far it appears that it will be the end of the deal for the Liberals. Have to see how the media reacts to events in the new year, but it seems like the narrative on this campaign has been written. This is the first time since 84 that the Liberals have been on the defensive and forced to defend themselves. We all saw how good they were at doing so in that election.
-
True. There are lots of ways for lower income families to get their kids into sports. I am also shocked at how little knowledge their is of the Canadian tax system. Lots of poor income families, even those who use food banks, still pay some income tax.
-
So now the Liberals are impugning the integrity of the RCMP. Note to Martin *brain* trust. Please, please, please adopt this as an official talking point. The RCMP is above reproach and to question their impartiality would push us from the Conservative minority we are facing to a CPC majority... *we run a surprisingly clean country* wtf? Oh wait charges have been laid in Adscam.

How low will the Liberals stoop?
shoop replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good points scriblett. I am shocked at the lack of competence in this Liberal campaign. I think Martin has fallen to prey to the problems of group-think and didn't take the time to evaluate what part his team played in the minority *win* in 2004. Yet again, Warren Kinsella has a very astute take on the issue. -
You also didn't deal with the tax credit for public trasportation. Funny how the majority of the condemnation in your post is for a government that last sat 12 1/2 years ago. While you, reluctantly, through in the Liberal government's failing on the issue as well.
-
Wow, what a low threshold you have for Members of Parliament from the Liberal Party of Canada. Ahhh, thankfully this election is becoming about integrity and trust. A party of integrity will hold itself to a higher stand that their MPs being charged with a crime. Thanks for the arrogance though. The CPC wouldn't be winning this election without it.

Well said FTA. I have a question. Is it a given that Harper would have to use the Nothwithstanding Clause if he tries to re-instate the traditional definition of marriage? I completely agree with you about not wanting to revisit the issue though.
