  1. During the election, the drug companies were the big bad meanies and Trump would save the world by negotiating much lower prices from them. Today he cozies up to the industry and says give them massive tax cuts and get rid of regulation. - Not my President.
  2. There's the rule, and then the spirit. We got no rule, nor no spirit.
  3. So is this a clone of Chinese technology? It's about time that someone did that to them. I can't find much in the way of details on this new missile, but what little I did find does not sound all that different than the J-600T Yildirim.
  4. So what deductions do the self employed freeloaders take that are not available to the employed?
  5. Whiter than white right wing terrorist kills 6, and this thread devolves into discussing Islam. Get a grip folks.
  6. You don't see the difference between more in depth questioning, and outright denial?
  7. I see that as a completely different issue. I agree that we need to consider our immigration numbers, I have been saying that for a long time. Our immigration has been driven for many decades by the economists saying we need to grow the population in order to grow the country. This is a problem with our economic policy, let's look at that and not point to someones skin colour or religion as the problem.
  8. Let me get back to the OP because this thread seems to be off in never never land. Employment benefits should be taxed or else they become a way of hiding income. A good example is an automobile that you use for both work and private transportation, you should be taxed on the automobile but the amount that is clearly for work purposes (commuting to your normal place of work is not considered) should be exempt; and this is the way it is calculated on a pro-rated basis. Lets look at health and dental benefits in detail. There are clearly many 'health' benefits that could be considered exempt (e.g. crutches, prescription medication, etc.) but others that clearly are luxuries (e.g. spa or health club membership). I think the grey area are things like hospital accommodations, and maybe a standard needs to be set. I believe most (all?) provincial plans give you ward accommodation for a hospital stay, and most employee benefits will upgrade that to semi-private rooms; perhaps that should be the standard for exempt and when you have those special enticement plans for executives with private room or suite coverage they be taxed. Same thing should apply to dental, where is the standard between reasonable care and vanity.
  9. You certainly raise a valid point. While the private journal does have an investment in the intellectual property (reviewing, editing, publishing, etc.), the public investment in the research is often many fold more significant. Also many of the reviewers are other professors (or post-docs or even grad students) supported by public funds. Most of the prestige journals are owned by private interests, probably the biggest being Elsevier. Note that Elsevier acquired many of the journals it publishes and did not start them. You might be interested in an old article in the New York Times on researchers suggesting a boycott of Elsevier for the very reasons you cite..
  10. The same way parents of wayward children are responsible. I never said Trump or Le Pen should be charged with murder, or even accessory to murder. They are however major influential figures, and need to be accountable for their actions. Continually spreading hatred towards groups like they do is not acceptable.
  11. No, but he did spread xenophobic hatred. I agree that Trump and Le Pen are not the same as Osama Bin Laden, but they do have a level of culpability.
  12. It appears that Alexandre Bissonnette, age 27, is the lone suspect in the deadly attack on a Quebec City mosque. He was known in the city’s activist circles as a right-wing troll who frequently took anti-foreigner and anti-feminist positions and stood up for U.S. President Donald Trump. Mr. Bissonnette’s demonstrated little interest in extremist politics until a year ago when French nationalist leader Marine Le Pen visited Quebec City and inspired Mr. Bissonnette to vocal extreme online activism. This continued during the recent US election with all the extremist rhetoric from Donald Trump and others. It seems that these politicians are responsible for the radicalization of our youth and leading them into committing these acts of terrorism. When will they be held accountable?
  13. You are a bit behind the times. Yes there was a period of a few decades while Somalia didn't have a central government, but that changed about 4 years ago. The Federal Republic of Somalia had a government that is recognize by the United Nations and several other international and multinational bodies, and has already established diplomatic relations with several countries. While Canada and the United States do not have embassies in Mogadishu, the United Kingdom does. Somalia has embassies in over 30 countries, including the United States.
  14. We will have to wait until Trump divests his business interests in Canada first. As far as it is known, the seven countries you can't say on television have no Trump business interests.
  15. Sorry, he was from Algeria which is not on the list next...
  16. US District Judge Ann Donnelly issues a temporary stay order against Trump's executive order to deport people from the seven countries.
  17. Since the 9/11 terrorists were all from countries not on Trump's list, the logic seems very flawed.
  18. So let me question you, are the approvals and constructed numbers you quoted 'to tidewater'?
  19. I am hearing a different story.
  20. Yes the UK is our largest trading partner in Europe, but it nowhere near two thirds. It is less than one third.
  21. Sorry but kissing ass is not Canada's style.
  22. Only the clueless, and extremely partisan, would suggest that this means that limits as to numbers do not exist. This was clearly a response to Donald Trump and his attack on Muslims.
  23. According to Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Life begins at birth, when the earthen vessel becomes a living soul. You can also refer to Psalms 33:6, Ezekiel 37 9-10, 13-14, Job 34: 14-15, and many others. The embryo or earthen vessel is not life. Absolutely, there is nothing to say the family has to be a mother, father, and a few siblings. What is important are the people, and the attention and care they give. Unfortunately there are also many bad examples in larger institutions and foster care environments which tend to overshadow the many good ones.
  24. Is that 3% of services, or 3% of budget? I assume not all services cost the same to deliver.
  25. Is you value continually slagging others, and offering nothing yourself? Just like when Ignatieff was leader of the Liberals, the only thing on conservative.ca was their `Just Visiting` bull, and now it is mostly slagging Trudeau. Conservative stand for nothing, they are simply angry.
