  1. You guys are acting like there are CFL player and NFL player like there are MLS player and EPL players. Any football player would try to make it in the big leagues first. Every player in the CFL, I'd imagine either went undrafted or cut by an NFL team. Warren Moon, Doug Flutie and Cameron Wake. All three are legendary CFL players that later made it to the NFL and made an impact. But first they tried it in the NFL and initially failed. (You could argue Warren Moon's failure was race related) The NFL sees the CFL as a feeder league. Why do you think the NFL Network shows 2 CFL games a week in the US? This thread is about the style or either league. I've seen some great plays from CFL players. The style just isn't as interesting to me. But I'm going to try this year to give the CFL as much attention as I do NCAA and NFL fooseball.
  2. Thanks. I guess. FTR comparing the athletes is a futile effort anyway. If I'm a Canadian and I grow up playing Canadian Football but I have the opportunity to play in the NFL, I will. More money, more fame, more name recognition. Why do you think the best Canadian Hockey players play in the US.
  3. What is this sentencing you speak of? yours, C. Anthony
  4. You don't think the precedent set by the Samsung deal isn't dangerous?
  5. Under Daddy Dalton the teachers get whatever they want. That's why the Teacher's Union is taking money away from their membership to campaign against the Tories. Sorry but that's gotta change.
  6. I guess it is a positive sign that on a Saturday after gas prices hit $1.35 or more a litre you can still go out to a mall or a hardware store or Wal-mart and still see the place packed with cars. It's evidence that our economy isn't totally in the shit.
  7. I'm sure most of you have heard of one Tim Tebow. Possibly one of the best college QB's ever. But he never played a "Pro-Style" offense at Florida. If his time one the Denver Broncos doesn't work out. Most people don't think it will. He will be a great CFL QB.
  8. You ever heard of one, Darren Sproules? Think he'd be a good if not great CFL player? He's like 5'8. Think Chris Johnson could pwn in the CFL? What about AP, B-Marsh, or even older players like Randy Moss and TO? What about Steve Smith, he's a WR under 6 feel tall. I'll plead ignorance about CFL players, I don't follow it terribly closely in regards to the player. I just know the Argo's starting QB led my favourite team in all of sports to a 1-15 record. I started this thread because I don't like the style of the game. But to think a guy like Henry Burris or Ricky Ray or even Anthony Calvillo wouldn't love to play along side the likes of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady is ridiculous. Anyway, what I've noticed about the CFL is that the offenses mimic the spread offenses you see in the Southern US College Football. All from the shotgun, lots of lateral motion, very little hard nose through the tackles football. Lot's of passing (you have to when you only have 3 downs) It's evidence that the defenses aren't all that good in the CFL.
  9. Anecdotall I know. Cory Boyd's Combine My link
  10. You know the perfect solution for you people? A GPS on everyone's car that tolled people no matter where they went. You drive 1 click to Shoppers at 10pm for some painkillers TOLL!!! You need to pay for convenience of onDemand transportation!!! Fat chance any government tackling that though, they don't even have the courage to deal with the unsustainability of our healthcare system. That's another far more contentious thread though.
  11. That's pretty hilarious. Drivers are paying for to maintain a bureaucracy that does little for us. This is why I despise those ladies at the MTO that I have to pay every birthday for a little sticker. As for infrastructure. Lots of stuff gets done for roads out here in Halton to help reduce congestion. This is in opposition to the former mayor of your city, that did things to increase congestion like take lanes of traffic away and replace them with bike lanes.
  12. I understand the idea that speed is more important in the CFL because the field is larger and there is much more lateral motion. Doesn't mean the receivers are better in the CFL. Put Brandon Marshall in the CFL and he'd totally pwn everyone.
  13. How is it not ironic that someone, who gets his transportation costs subsidized, wants people, who don't get their transportation costs subsidized, to pay much more to use their car? And I get that insurance and parking are just the cost of driving BUT! why shouldn't registration go to infrastructure? It's a provincial tax, one in which you are forced to pay if you want to drive. If that doesn't go directly to maintaining the road it should. Black Dog, are you happy with a modest $1 or $2 toll for entering the city of Toronto using the DVP or Gardiner. Or do you believe in something more punitive, say a $5 or $10 daily toll for everyone who wants to go to Toronto.
  14. I like that on the Fourth of July the Canadian Dollar has reached the highest above parity in Years. It's at $1.04
  15. There was a certain amount of Irony in that post. I was lightly following the game while partaking in large amounts of expensive beer downtown.
  16. The Argos won the Grey Cup the year they signed Ishmael did they not?
  17. It's either that or be a Ti-Cats fan. The Argo's had a clutch win on Friday. They were able to kick 2 FG's in less than 2 minutes because the CFL does not allow teams to run the clock down. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
  18. Here's the thing about the CFL, it way to simplistic. When you shorten a drive to potentially 3 plays instead of 4 is limits what an offense can do. Draw Play, Pass. Pass, Pass. Where as in American Football, you get 4 plays to develop something and the defense has to match, it the greatest example of Chess on a sports field. Do they even do play-action passes in the CFL? Oh wait all the snaps are from the shotgun so NO! The 20-yard end-zone is almost comical too. As with the wider field. It's like they do things to make it harder for an offense to do what they want but by adding to every dimension of the field and allowing an extra player. And yes the Rouge is stupid, as is the fact they've never thought to move the goal posts to the back of the endzone, but I guess with a 20 yard end zone you wouldn't be able to score a FG unless you got within the 20. Also citing Great US College players that have flopped in Canada doesn't make the CFL better. Remember when Ricky Williams came up for a season. One of the best Tailbacks in recent NFL history didn't exactly destroy CFL records, but that's because he's a between the tackles runner and that's not the type of game the CFL is. I wouldn't be surprised if there are starting Offensive Linemen in the CFL that are under 250 lbs. One of the best CFL success stories in recent history is Cameron Wake coming from the CFL and playing in a Pro Bowl in his second season as an NFLer. Since there may NOT be a NFL season this year I'll attempt to watch a bit more CFL to get my fix. But it'll never be as good if you ask me. But as both an Argo and a Dolphin fan, I find watching Cleo Lemon very difficult.
  19. Another anti-Israel group plans to march in the "Dyke March" today. My link
  20. It's wildly ironic that a public transit user, who's fares are subsidized says drivers don't pay enough. Every year we pay $75 for a sticker, we pay insurance, we pay a gas tax then sales tax on top of that gas tax, Also if you're driving downtown you're paying for parking. Black Dog, you've never once said what's a reasonable price for drivers to pay, you just say it isn't enough. What pray tell is enough?
  21. So the City of Toronto would be mailing out bills to everyone and suspending licenses if people don't pay? Wonderful!
  22. And there's already a very expensive toll road that pretty much runs parallel to the 401. The 401, through Toronto is 16 lanes. You're basically saying anyone that wants to go from one end of Ontario to the other has to pay just for the privilege of entering the great city of Toronto. Total bullshit. If you want to toll it, it better be a provincial initiative and the profits should go to everyone in the province (or at least all the communities that use the 401) not just Hogtown.
  23. I started the thread because I'm a fan of Coren. I like the way he doesn't play the PC game and the way he doesn't shy away from discussing faith issues. He also is one of the few people in the media that likes to address the hypocrisy of the way other treats the issue of Israel and Islam. I like how he told people on the Flotilla that if they really wanted to do good for humanity they should keep going a half an hour inland and protest the treatment of civilians in Syria. I'm sure he wants to make money, like anyone else does. He's got his hand in a lot of different stuff (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Books, Public Speaking) so I'm sure he makes a fairly comfortable living. I think it's a testament to his popularity that he's obtained a following largely because of a show on a Faith-based cable program. And if you watch his show he gets some very impressive guests. I'd argue better people go on his show on CTS than Sun News ever attracts.
