Well you live in the Shwa, I don't pay for the roads in your town. As for the 401, QEW etc. not only do commuters use the highway but so do people using public transit so that's not a relevant comparison.

Yeah but we'd miss Strombo! I think there is far better Canadian content on cable than on the CBC. No Question! By Shwa's logic, calling into question where the government spends any of its money is like calling into question funding for roads or anything the government offers that people need to do their day to day activities. Who needs the CBC to get to work? Who needs the CBC to take their garbage? Who needs the CBC to provide healthcare for them?

If there was a massive public outcry over pulling funding for the CBC then you might have a point. I'm sure people would have a problem if money stopped going to the upkeep of roads. Well unless they cut everyone's taxes so we could use the 407 that is. Again what would pulling the funding for the CBC mean? What aspects of their government money go into filling their mandate and what portion goes into the pockets of, say Peter Mansbridge.

LOL First of all it wasn't just the CTV, it was a combination Media Consortium that brought us the 2010 Olympics. You had games on CTV, Sportsnet, TSN, OLN, etc etc. BTW NBC's Hockey coverage uses people like Pierre McGuire, a sports pundit for TSN. I guess you loved Brian Williams when he worked for CBC, but now cuz he's on TSN he's horrible.

CBC Sports doesn't get any government money. So it's totally irrelevant arguement regarding this issue. Also the Olympic Gold Medal game was on CTV, not CBC.

BTW the issue I have with the CBC isn't their political bias, or the fact most of their programming is horawful. My big problem with the CBC is that it's a hybrid media organization. CBC Sports isn't a Crown Corporation. I'm sure the specialty cable channels the CBC owns aren't supposed to get government money. So what exactly is that money for? No one knows because the CBC won't release their books. I can't prove this but I'm pretty sure much of the gumint money that the CBC pockets goes into giving them an advantage over its competition and not to fulfill it's mandate. I maybe wrong but the CBC won't let us know. Eventually the courts will force them to be more transparent I hope.

I think the fact PEI has 4 seats is appalling. But to dilute that travesty you'd need to ad more like 100 seats. PEI voters have to be the most over democratically represented people in the world. I agree with the others here that say the current seats should be re-organized but if the alternative is to either do nothing or ad seats to better reflect the growing provinces I would choose the second option.

:facepalm CTV owns TSN. Rogers owns Sportsnet which actually shows more Leaf games through the year. Sports on networks are usually set aside for important events like the World Series, Stanley Cup or the Superbowl. Or Sports on the weekend, where the CBC shows a bulk of it's sports through the year. CBC also owns Bold which shows some fringe sports but costs cable customers extra to see.

So Dragon's Den exhibits Canadian culture? They have similar shows in the US. In fact Kevin O'Leary is on the American version of the show. Or Battle of the Blades? Or Little Mosque? Actually there's one show that's pretty Canadian on Sunday Nights called Heartland. But it's meant to appeal to Rural horse lovers and not downtown progressives so I doubt that chattering classes that love the CBC would laud that show. As for Hockey, the CBC gets some of the best games. Saturday Night Leaf games, where TSN often gets to show two American teams play on a Tuesday Night. And when they do get a Leafs game it's on a weeknight when there are other shows on. The highest rated portion of the hockey game is, wait for it. . . Coach's Corner. Which also probably makes the type of people that think the CBC is good for Canada sick.

Those things aren't even comparable. And Maple Syrup is absurdly expensive. The CBC doesn't currently meet it's mandate, It offers similar services as private broadcasters do, but it gets a 1.1 billion dollar head start on them. If they can't survive with private funds then it shouldn't exist.

Because you seem to know when people are lying. It would have been helpful to know if he was lying this past election.

Indirectly he is. Up until the 2011 election the last PM that won a majority and wasn't from Quebec was Diefenbaker. You have to win Quebec to win a majority. Harper made so many inroads in 2008 but because Quebec didn't like him he was denied a majority. This election changed that because he dominated Ontario. But regardless the critical mass of the population of Canada has moved west and so should the votes.

And I couldn't be happier about it. This'll piss the NDP off as 2/3 of their caucus will be dilluted in next election. It's nice that a PM can win an election in this country without having to pander to a single province anymore.

If a politician can be swayed by a free business class trip from Toronto to Ottawa then I should start bribing them because they appear to be easily swayed by petty bribery.

Apparently she's revealed that she got the upgrade on points. This is such a non-story.

Everyone is assuming stuff here. Some are assuming it's a conflict of interest some are assuming it's a smear job. No one knows. Even if the Air Canada was trying to bribe her, It's on them, not her. She's had this position that AC people can't strike for months now. I don't a single perk like this would really affect public policy. It's sorta like when the PM wanted to go see a hockey game recently people flipped out on him for trying to use his influence to get more tickets. He's sort of the leader of the country. Perhaps he deserves a few perks?
