Yes because the David Miller regime was the epitomy of compromise. Apparently the last guy who had this job; Rick Ducharme quit cuz he couldn't work with Miller and Co.

Yeah that $400,000 severance he's slated to get is going to suck. Apparently dude was going to retire soon anyway.

Although I agree that the USSR could have probably ultimately defeated Germany without a second front, you forget to mention that the Reds got lots of aid from the west after the Battle of the Atlantic was won and while the war on the Eastern front was going on Allies were fighting in North Africa and Italy. So there kind of was a second front. Also keep in mind the US was fighting a war on two fronts and they did it successfully. As for 1919 being the ultimate cause of WW2, I can't disagree but would you say then that the armistice shouldn't have been signed and all and the Western allies should have brought Germany to its knees then? I recall hearing that on November 11, 1918 that the American forces fought until the last minute because they believed that if peace was called then that they'd have to come back and do the same thing all over again. Pretty prophetic.

Spock comes back from the future and watches Vulcan get blown up from the guy from Munich.

42nd Canadian federal election slated for 2015
Boges replied to Sa'adoni's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sure it's right of centre, but if the Libs and NDP merge the political leanings will change. There are many Liberals that have far more in common with the CPC than they do the NDP. -

The CPC won a majority having that crime bill in their platform and proposing to buy these jets. You sound like a broken record. -

If the two left parties unite then much of the centre will go to the CPC. It'll be bad for the ROC because Quebec will hold all the cards again, where at least now a party can win a majority without broad support from Quebec. Harper could pull a Chretien and call a snap election soon after the Libs elect their leader like Jean did to Stockwell Day. -

It's hilarious that people hate Harper so much they longingly look forward 3-years to when he'll face re-election again. The 2 parties that have a realistic chance at beating the CPC don't have a leader. The Libs aren't even choosing their leader until sometime next year. Any poll regarding the CPC's popularity at this point is beyond irrelevant. -
I know I was being hyperbolic. What was the CPC's popular vote total in La Belle Province last May. I still sore that the 2008 election went the way it did because Quebec were worried about Arts funding so they didn't vote for Harper and that cost him the Majority. That's why I was more than happy the see the CPC win a majority with little support from Quebec last year.

Hyperbole FTW. Clearly not everyone, Harper still has a handful of seats in Quebec.

I normally find Chantel Hebert one of the least objectionable of the Toronto Star columnists but this column today just doesn't make sense. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1131856--hebert-harper-s-alienation-of-quebec-just-what-the-liberals-need?bn=1 So because Quebecers hate Harper and the rest of the country pretty much hates Quebec; the Nationalist movement might see an uptick? But how does that benefit Federalist Liberals?

He also recommended ending the seemingly endless debt-retirement charge. I wonder if McDalton would do that? I started a thread months ago claiming the Ontario Clean Air Energy Benefit was just an expensive bribe. And with the constant uptick in energy prices, those savings aren't even really noticed anymore.

That's twice in this thread someone has called PIK's thoughts on PET's separatist leaning one of the most ridiculous things said on this board.

What say did the Reform/Alliance MPs have in all of the years of the Chretien/Liberal rule? Opposition has Question Period to highlight and try to hold the government to account but simple democracy shows that the government has the power to pass any legislation they want assuming the vote is whipped.

I actually looked it up. Alberta only has a deficit of $3.8 billion. New York State has a smaller deficit ($11 million) with a much higher population and California who has more people than all of Canada has a deficit of only around $13 billion. So yeah Ontario is pretty fuct.
-
The Toronto Mayor paid an accounting firm to do something similar. I wouldn't trust a bureaucrat to find savings in anything.
-
Mississauga is the big one.

I remember I started a thread regarding the changing seat-count and how Quebec's share will be diluted. Quebec ended up getting some seats. A poster here "punked" said that Quebec should maintain 25% of the commons regardless of their population because they represent Francophones all across the country.

As mentioned before this internet crime bill is an example of where consultation has proved that the governments initial idea of what the bill is thought to be over-reaching and changes will be made. But that's not what this thread about. Trudeau Jr. didn't cite the fact that the CPC have been shutting down debate on issues. He just nebulously stated a hypothetical universe in which he may consider separation to be a good idea.
-
Ontario is actually still under represented with their seat-count. Many GTA MPs represent ridings of well over 100,000 people

Plus a majority of the people in the Caribbean are dirt poor. When you live in Paradise why do you really want to go to a Northern city to visit? Now to immigrate there, that's another thing.
-
I thought the Feds were on the hook for that. They lowered income taxes for it but they also started taxing a bunch of new things.
-
That's a good one.
