  1. All I'm saying, in starting this thread, was question how a democratically elected leader could act in such an undemocratic fashion. Seems like the election changed nothing. We'll see though.
  2. John Tory isn't running. He's had enough of political foolishness. A column in the Sun yesterday opined that he enjoys more influence as a radio host a civic leader than he ever did as Opposition leader. Stintz might but she could always wait until 2014. Haven't heard any evidence she's thinking of running. Giorgio isn't a right-wing candidate. He's a whatever he thinks can get him elected candidate. When his campaign was going nowhere in 2010 he threw his support behind Ford, even though they were enemies previously. Once the court ruling came down he jumped shit on the Ford bandwagon as fast as he could.
  3. I still think Merle isn't long for this world. He doesn't fit in either camp. No way Rick or the rest of the crew (Glen especially) trusts Merle. They would have shown the them get summarily executed if that was the Gov's plan. I think he'll probably let them go to infiltrate the group somehow. Tyrese is a popular comic book character. Very racist that they killed Oscar after they introduced another black guy into the fold. BTW didn't watch BE last night. Will try to watch tonight though.
  4. We still talking about this? Shelly Carroll says she'll run so if Olivia runs that immediately splits up the Left-wing vote. That is if council decides for a Bi-Election, which would be a giant waste of money. Good thing I don't have to pay for it.
  5. I was at an LCBO this weekend. One of the clerks was saying Merry Christmas to customers. I felt like contacting a Human Rights Tribunal, I was quite offended. :-D
  6. That's what she said. Does this mean Iran ISN'T a threat to world peace, because their navy is shit. I'll call middle of the road here. The US has an overkill Navy that's a relic of the Cold War. It seems any potential enemy has long ago abandoned a Navy as a realistic way to fight a battle. Of course I have no clue what I'm talking about so . . . yeah it's a cute Sub. BTW where's the Deck Gun? Most U-Boats sank merchant ships with a tiny Deck Gun. At least have that.
  7. Didn't they just their budget cut it in the last budget? They're also having a tough time with the absence of Hockey.
  8. Other members have gone to great length to say that the money and the donations aren't the reason Ford lost his job. Had he simply not voted on a conflict of interest motion he would have been fine. He also wouldn't have lost his job if he had simply admitted wrong doing before the trial. He was stubborn and ignorant but not corrupt.
  9. I don't think they have anything against the Star except their editorial position. They do talk about the how there are things MSM media won't discuss and they will. That's more Sun News than the Newspapers though. The CBC on the other hand takes $1 billion MORE tax dollars than any other media organization gets in grants yet refuses to reveal information like how much certain information on how they spend public money that's supposed to go to furthering culture. Brian Lilly has a book out about it. http://www.torontosu...wasted-spending
  10. And you have proof of that where? Sandra Bussin accepted campaign donations from the Boardwalk Pub owner that got a 20 year lease. By your same logic that could be considered corrupt, correct?
  11. Well now you're the one making false remarks. It may have been improper for him to use his City Letterhead to solicit those donations but you have no proof he forced the people to donate or they wouldn't get a contract from the city. Was he even the mayor when these events happened? Also he didn't have $3,100 in his pocket. That money went to the charity.
  12. If PR was best for the democracy then why was proposing using a form of it defeated convincingly in the 2007 Ontario Election. That's democracy in action right there. There's no appetite for a system where those elected don't actually represent an actual constituency. A member that's elected based on a list of preferred members of a party is more patronage than it is a mandate.
  13. Columnists don't represent to journalistic integrity of the paper, they represent themselves. Warmington, Levy and Agar agree that, though this ruling sucks, it's Ford's own fault for being stubborn. The Sun publishes columns from Warren Kinsella. He's a Liberal hack and I wonder why a Conservative paper would publish his crazy opinions but that doesn't mean the paper supports his opinions per say. They used to publish columns from Labour Leader Sid Ryan (ironically he opposed kicking Ford out for this), Tarek Fattah writes a column for the Sun, he's quite Liberal, even admitted to voting for and donating to the Smitherman campaign. But he came out against the ruling too. What did the column, in question actually say and who wrote it because sometimes headline writers say crazy things to get people to read the article. There was a column I read about the recent Bi-Elections where the headline said that both the Liberals and Tories have lessons to learn from these elections. The column stated that the Tories were clear winners and any negativity from the Calgary-Centre result comes from Calgary politics and Harper shouldn't be to blame for that result. The headline writer clearly didn't read the whole story.
  14. But Hamas IS! a Terrorist organization. Quite different, I'd say.
  15. What has the Sun said that's misleading. Above and beyond the opinion of a columnist.
  16. Striking will accomplish nothing for the teacher. Unless they want parents that may have been on their side to turn against them. Their former sugar daddy shut down the House so no new legislation can be passed anyway.
  17. It's not us he has to worry about, it's the people in his own country who are doing the whole protest thing again. Clearly people in Egypt aren't convinced he's sincere.
  18. Don't know where you're getting your numbers from. This is from March. Not sure how different that is from now but can't be that much. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/newspaper-readership-holds-steady/article4096489/ http://www.torontosun.com/2012/03/29/toronto-sun-readership-growing-study-shows Both citing the same studies.
  19. The Newspaper division doesn't have terrible readership, especially compared to that of the Globe and National Post in Toronto. Sun News is different but I haven't heard any recent news that they are in deep trouble The top Google search result for their ratings is from April.
  20. I was in London last month and walked into a Tube Station needing to take a piss. Couldn't get into the "toilet" unless I paid 50p.
  21. Democracy works fine here. We've had centuries of practice though. Egypt electing the MB isn't the problem, it's the fact that the electorate acts surprised when the party they elected acts like they have a track-record of acting. And it's not even really a problem, it's more of an "I told you so" moment because this result was totally predictable. I wish I could have put money on it somewhere. Also, as far as I can tell, the Arab Spring in Egypt had little interference from the West. Libya is different but in that instance Democracy was NEVER being defended. I think the West backed the rebels because the instability in Libya was bad for bidness in Europe and we all know how bad it already is there.
  22. Well Governments want the interests of their people served first and foremost. So if a West-friendly dictator has to be installed to maintain peace and OUR interest, I suppose a pragmatist might see that as just. Hypocritical possibly but there are no easy answers in dealing with nations that don't have the history of pluralism that we do.
  23. I read a column in today's Sun that contested that in Calgary-Centre the vote count for the opposition (LCP, NDP, Greens) were about the same as in 2011. What changed was the plummeting support for the CPC. Since the Liberals numbers weren't improved much, the plummeting support for the CPC can be more attributed to apathy and the war between Red Tories that support Redford and the Wildrose Reformers. Alberta Tories better get their shet together before 2015, I don't want to see a Wildrose-like party running nationally eating away at CPC support.
  24. I can't really comment on that instance. From this article I googled up it does seem we supported his overthrow but weren't really on the ground getting rid of him. http://www.cbc.ca/ne...istide-bio.html
