  1. So you reject per capita death figures? Sweden actually has four-times the deaths per million than Denmark and more than eight-times the death rate than Norway. If you reject per capita figures then you'll concede that the US has, by far, the worse COVID-19 figures. They have 2 million cases, no nation even has close to one million.
  2. Why? There's plenty of evidence mass unemployment leads to suicide and levels of isolation from lonely people can't be good for mental health, but no one has demonstrated how much more harmful it is than say a deadly disease overtaking healthcare. How? They kept a few restaurants opened? They still saw economic contraction and more than double the deaths of other country. Also conservatives would pretty much reject all other things the Swedish value. It's easier for Socialist countries to take charge of public health.
  3. In places that are seeing spike, I actually don't think you can rely on the numbers. (I include China here). You're just going to quit testing. Or, like Russia, quit claiming COVID-19 killed people. In Brazil the Trumpian President was denying COVID was an issue and now that it's something he can't deny, he says he's going to stop posting death figures. The level of testing in Japan is embarrassing, I don't believe any of the figures coming from there.
  4. It's weird how Conservatives hate all levels of public service except the Hall Monitors with guns that patrol our cities and towns. There is, most certainly, a need for policing. But police don't reduce crime, lowering poverty reduces crime. Toronto's police budget is north of a $1 billion dollars. A lot of that money could effectively go to assisting people in at risk areas. Instead of paying two people 6-figures to wait in a car at the bottom of a hill to give people $200 speeding tickets to justify their salaries.
  5. 6 Days in Der Cooler. I trust I was missed.

  6. That's fine, but when people of faith also embrace him, it's a level of hypocrisy that can't be imagined. I actually don't think Americans, by and large, support him. At least 55-60% outright hate him. His base is that 30%. And I'm sure large swath of them would support any Republican, but I think you're right. His attitude appeals to many people. And they've fallen for his Grift. His entire life has been about conning people (Steaks, Universities, Hotels, Casinos). So it's no surprise that he's conning Poor, uneducated white people into thinking he's going to fight for them. What's depressing about the Election is that the votes of most of the country won't matter. It'll come down to maybe a million people in 5 states. And they'll decide who wins the election.
  7. Yeah and that's just assumed at this point. There's no evidence of any of that. Anyone that killed themselves over 3 months of some level of isolation would probably have been predisposed to depression anyway. It's just that Sweden isn't some example of how society worked perfectly. AND most people who advocate for Sweden's solutions would outright reject that countries level of socialism and thoughts on end-of-life issues. I don't think there's anyone that doesn't think the economy should open up. I too think it's going too slowly at this point. We're not doing ourselves favours by isolating ourselves from everyone else. But the measures taken in March and April were 100% the right ones. The level of death seen would have been much higher and would have effected many more young people.
  8. What about the death tolls seen in countries that were forced to shut down? The Shutdown was an effort to avert similar healthcare disasters seen in Italy and Spain. Sweden may have faired well at planning but they still saw a higher death toll than most countries and as this article shows, their economy might not have been spared afterall. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/sweden-didn-t-lock-down-but-economy-to-plunge-anyway-1.4973195 Just because restaurants are open, doesn't mean people will go.
  9. It's actually more than half of Canada's death toll at less than a third of the population. Sweden also lags in testing. Ontario has been 100% up front about how much testing has been done, the demographics of who's got the disease and the most important that, how many people have been hospitalized.
  10. On the day of George Floyd's funeral Trump was Tweeting conspiracy theories of an 75 year old man that was assaulted by police.
  11. It's not about calling all White People Racist. It's about recognizing that being white has some serious built-in benefits from years of systemic racism and discrimination. Denying that White privilege exists is being wilfully ignorant.
  12. Is Trump really such a Pro-Military POTUS? He's now 0-2 on Secretary of Defences that like his policies.
  13. It's entertaining watching people on the wrong side of history feverishly defend their ignorant position. No racism here, NONE! That's the same thing people were saying when they supported slavery, made interracial marriage illegal, segregated schools Etc etc etc. Yeah but those things were Different! 4 years ago a black NFL QB was blackballed from the NFL for kneeling during the National Anthem to protest Police Violence. Today a white NFL QB had to release a public apology for saying he wouldn't ever kneel during the National Anthem because it disrespected the Troops. History changes quickly.
  14. The post Trump got flagged for advocated for shooting protestors. The post in the OP was wishing a COVID-19 related death on a political figure,
  15. You mean like a majority of the Drooling morons? The only chance Trump has if the "Drooling Morons" that voted for Obama and didn't vote for Hillary in 3 or 4 states stay home again.
  16. Missed the point. The traction for Race incidents haven't achieved this level of scrutiny and support before. See what happened to Drew Brees yesterday. He probably thought that opinion was a safe one.
  17. You can equivocate all you want regarding past incidents. The point is that the protest that happened then had no where near the traction the Floyd and Taylor protests have had.
  18. The more people who think like this. The more these protests will keep happening. It was pointed out to me that when Trayvon Martin got killed or when Eric Garner got killed or when Micheal Brown got killed, you didn't see organizations en masse release statements decrying violence against POC. The times, they are a changin'
  19. Directly related to the idea that people on the right actually give two shits about the property of poor people in the inner city. They'll never vote for them.
  20. Excellent example of Whataboutism and Kicking and Screaming. Hey those countries can be racist!!!
  21. It's actually "Taking The L". Bot school didn't teach you that level of nuance. Or the concept of Thread drift.
  22. Poverty breed more poverty. In white communities too. More policing certainly doesn't help the situation.
  23. Oh so Dr. Tam has entered your algorithm? And basically ALL media is responsible. Good to know. Except for Fox and the Rebel. LOL 7,500 Canadians vs Approaching 110,000 Americans.
  24. We have a chicken and an egg scenario where people can say that more black people are killed because they're committing more crime. But then the counter argument is that more black people are in the position to commit more crime because of systemic racism and poverty. And you have to address issues that are decades in the making. You see the systemic racism when you see how many blacks are in prison for non-violent drug offences when studies show they don't use drugs at any higher percentage than whites. This debate is more nuanced that protests good vs protests bad.
  25. What data are you basing your "Police Brutality has nothing to do with Race" argument. It can't be the red herring about white people being shot more than black people. Because that's easily discredited.
