America under President Trump
Boges replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It would be foolish to let a COVID-19 positive person into a workplace. People without paid sick-leave will feel this more than most. If you can't work from home, getting COVID-19 is very bad, even if it won't directly kill you. Sure, And short of April where non-essential businesses were shuttered, we haven't seen total lockdowns. Sadly, job losses in the hospitality industry will be unavoidable. I don't see myself going to a movie theatre or a gym for awhile. And this is why they can't have nice things. Those bars have now been closed in multiple states. Young people are leading the spikes. -
Since the testing thing is what many are using as an excuse for the spiking rate in the US, consider this. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/florida https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/usa Nationally the positivity rate in the US is a hair under 7%. In Florida it's north of 15%. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/new-york In New York the positivity rate is 1.1%. https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-ontario-is-responding-covid-19#section-0 Ontario has been is under 1% for over a week now. With 20-30k tests per day and around rarely over 200 positive cases.

And that many staff were working in multiple homes.

No they don't. But they may still require hospitalization. And they'll have to stay home for a minimum 2 weeks. In some cases, they'll be out of work for over a month. (assuming they have a job). How's that going to effect the economy? -

Economies are re-opening. States like New York, New Jersey etc have no started to cautiously re-open even though they were hit the hardest. Europe is re-opening to international travel in July. Almost all of Ontario has started to re-open. It seems that places like Florida, Texas, California and Arizona that thought they had dodged the "first wave" are now seeing huge spikes not just in cases, but in hospitalization. As for deaths, the rate will drop as treatments come online and younger people get infected as opposed to people in LTC homes. The rate of hospitalization reaching capacity will eventually result in increased mortality. We're seeing risks of that all over the Southern US. -

Well opening up, Covid-19 be damned, has not worked. Beaches will be closed on the Fourth of July weekend. -
Border crossings for some but not for others.

The return flight is. Don't Americans want to be repatriated? If the US had the same 2 week Quarantine, perhaps there'd be even less flights. It appears the Blue Jays are going to get approval. Their stadium has a hotel, it'll be its own bubble. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/mlb/toronto-blue-jays-rogers-centre-upcoming-season-1.5631598 -

The problem with this whole COVID re-opening at no cost doctrine is that it ends up slowing down the recovery. You get 30,000 young people sick every day, that does a lot to damage to worker pool. And these false starts on the economy put the states behind other economies that took a more measured approach. He's been pretty silent on all this lately. I think he's been told to STFU. -

You have to allow for repatriation. And Canadians are property owners in the US, and vice versa. Make no mistake, the volume is 95% of what it was. Looks like the Federal government is going to let Baseball teams in. -

The source if Fox News. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election/trump-2020-us-election-drop-out-fox-news-republican-a9592036.html The polling is damning and Trump's only move is flaming culture wars. He's talking more about Statues than Covid-19. I don't know how that type of messaging expands the base. It's not even helping with the economy. -

Only the OP author is advocating for an open border to non-essential travel. -

Sure, enforcement is an issue. Governments will concede that. But you can certainly deny service to someone who isn't wearing a mask. -

How does a mask provide any control? It's public health. You can mandate seatbelts, certain vaccines, education for children etc. If No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service is legal, then so is No Mask, No Service. -

I completely agree. I'm speaking to the sentiment that this virus is a deep state plot to control everyone. The unwillingness for people to wear masks in indoor public places is astonishing. People are playing defence against safety. -

If the Covid numbers are a false flag operation then the GOP governors and Mike Pence are all in on it. They've pulled back on re-opening efforts. -

It's tough to discuss the issue if you refuse to acknowledge the COVID figures. You have no evidence to contend that numbers are a lie. Even GOP Governors and Mike Pence concede the outbreak has increased. Pence is even wearing a mask. Truckers contribute to trade. If I was driving to the US for anything, I wouldn't leave my truck unless I had to go to the bathroom and I'd sanitize immmediately. Europe's cases are a fraction of the US now. And unless you're a member of the Blue Jays, it looks like the 2 week quarantine stays. -
This is now very little ability to disagree with the Left

This'll make you guys melt down. https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/29/21304947/reddit-ban-subreddits-the-donald-chapo-trap-house-new-content-policy-rules I think what's happening is a course correction from a lot of the mis-information and "Real" Fake News that came out of 2016. Facebook is seeing a boycott campaign that could force its hand on Propaganda from #45 etc. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/facebook-ad-boycott-canada-1.5631054 -

He can. It won't be heard again before the election though. Another broken promise from Trump. Couldn't even get abortion repealed with a stacked court. -

That would be breaking the rules of DACA. As mentioned earlier. -

OK, but now they can stay. SCOTUS says so. You've failed to cite what instance would be cause for deportation. -

As is all the economy. You'd think it would be worse considering there was 6 weeks or so of almost nil economic activity except for food. -

It's still open to trade. It will this year. MAGA!
