America under President Trump

Which is why the re-opening has been gradual and cautious in Canada. Unlike in parts of the US which are seeing outbreaks worse than was seen in April. -

Took you a week to get to this story. This survey happened before a good chunk of the recent spike that has caused several states to put a halt to Re-Opening efforts. I would suggest that this rush to re-opening has caused COVID to get a foothold in the US and make it impossible to control. And now Trump says he'll penalize states that don't open schools in a month, regardless of their COVID situation. -
We've been over this, it's a made up stat. They have the most percentage from LTC homes as a percentage of their total. If there were only 20 deaths and 19 where from a LTC it would be worse. I'm sure a counties like Spain, Italy and the US have more deaths from LTC homes, it's just that there percentage is lower because more people died from community spread.

It does, not arguments with that. I guess we all need to be rich enough to be able to afford to retire in a private room.
-
Even with this awful news. The Debt to GDP ratio is only 50%. The US has a Debt to GDP ratio of over 100%
-
Population density. A vast majority of Quebec and Ontario cases are in Toronto and Montreal.
-
Because it was identified and contained. If you take a look at the Ontario thread, I have a pretty honest assessment on how Ontario has done with COVID-19.
-
I actually saw that. 4 cases made national news. The first cases in PEI in months.
-
It's just like how many British people have homes in Spain. I know I was looking to spend a fair bit of money in Florida this Summer. That money is going into improving the house now.
-
Cite some outbreaks that you're referring to? The one instance of a nail salon in Kingston that resulted in less than 20 new cases. There will be flare-ups but it's under control.
-
That's a problem. Though it hasn't resulted in any significant outbreaks. I guess you'd have to be pretty motivated to go to Banff during a Global pandemic. It's not about the Snowbirds. They're rich, they can find somewhere else. It's about the economic activity where they choose to winter. I guess you don't care about that. I find that odd.
-
There are no direct flights to Alaska? I'm pretty sure that excuse won't fly on a land border. You always mock Snowbirds. They provide good economic development to parts of the US that that'll be missed this year. Ditto with large parts of Cottage country in Canada.
-
Not across the land? I know from a Canadian relative that recently tried to get repatriated from the US, Health Canada follows up on Canadians that need to Quarantine. You have to have a good reason to cross the border. Not because you want to go shopping. Still won't be as cold as Canada might.
-
I think we're in agreement that, for now, it should stay that way. Though you want it to stay closed for some weird economic reasons. Canadians want it closed because of COVID. Or Europe, unlike American tourists.
-
No, it's fear that people from a country that's 30 times the COVID cases (3 times per capita) will be coming to the country unmonitored. The real economic fear isn't the border and trade, it's that the US will collapse because of its polarized political climate and toxic leadership. I suspect that's a likely outcome.
-
It took over 3 months for the US to hit 1 million cases of COVID-19. It took 28 days for the US to go from 2 million cases to 3 million cases. Yikes. Can they get to 4 million in 2 weeks?

Is it a crisis yet? https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/07/health/us-coronavirus-tuesday/index.html -
They're just reporting a study. But a lot of Canadians acceptance of things like Social Distancing and masks is due to what they're seeing in the US. Look at the US media reporting on JT standing Trump up for his NAFTA 2.0 ceremony. https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/08/politics/trump-justin-trudeau-coronavirus-north-american-trade-agreement/index.html

How is doubling hospitalization in the matter of weeks not a case for alarm? https://www.statesman.com/news/20200707/texas-sees-new-records-in-coronavirus-cases-hospitalizations-and-deaths If it wasn't cause for alarm, the Governor wouldn't have halted the re-opening. -

Kay, but this doesn't indicate people are just being admitted precautionary. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/07/hospitalizations-arizona-texas-florida-us-nears-3-million-covid-19-cases -

What's your evidence for that? The big number is ICU capacity because those are people that need medical intervention. And as Hospitals reach capacity, I doubt they'd be doing that. You can find out your positive at a Drive-Tru testing site. They would just tell you to stay home for two weeks. -

How is it useless? Doctors are trying to avoid intubating patients now. It seems that death is more likely when that happens. -

Some people with a cold may think they have it. With mild symptoms. -

So if people are doing it because of that, then the positivity rate would be low. It's not in the states effected with this current spike. In the Miami area it's north of 20%. -

Lack of beds have caused deaths to spike in New York, Italy and Spain. I can't believe I have to keep repeating this. But oh well.
