Well new 900 cases today in Ontario. Many more, per capita, out West. Vast Majority unvaxxed. Those people noticed. The Unvaxxed are driving cases and Hospitalizations. Stop using the talking point that the Vaxxed can be infected and spread it. It's annoying that this is what all the trolls online have used as their rallying cry. It's irrelevant because Vaxxed people are overwhelmingly not getting sick when/if they get infected. But Vaxxed people are. Not all, but with Delta, it's more likely. Hospitalization Stats include 90% non-vaxxed people. If numbers of infected continue to rise, the number of people Hospitalized will rise as well. Until Lockdown! The Passport will allow businesses like Indoor Dining, Gyms and Theatres to stay open even if numbers do climb. IMHO the more vaxxed people that get infected, the better. It helps move us to an Endemic Virus. Most don't even notice.

Obviously that's not what's happening. But the alternative is a broad lockdown once Hospital capacity becomes an issue. OR!!!!! Restricting people's access to non-essential indoor activities where infection is more likely based on vaccine status. Which is what's happening now.

It's amusing that people are sooooo concerned about the environment because of Lithium and Cobalt. We as a society need to prepare for the fact that batteries will be more and more essential for an array of things as we try to achieve a Carbon neutral world. Like with anything environmental, population control and ocean conservation are a problem the developing world needs to tackle. I got met with blowback when I suggested that, the developed world will need to assist the developing world to develop in a cleaner fashion. We've seen the benefit of a Fossil Fuel driven economy. How can we let the rest of the world see the same benefit but not continue to pollute at such a clip. It's tough questions that neither you nor I can address. Because I'm certain that simply telling people in Africa to stop having kids will not fly.

You're not being forced. But that may be a prerequisite of employment. Very different. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's not an absolute right to travel internationally or use Federally regulated transportation. Illicit drug use isn't contagious. BUT second-hand smoke has been effectively banned in public spaces. So the government does restrict freedoms in the name of public health, all the time. Seatbelts are a great example of this.

The Hyperbole from you Anti-Vax crazies is amusing. 1) You are not being forced to get a vaccine 2) Often a negative test is acceptable. 3) Passports are only being implemented for indoor non-essential service. The type of services that were locked down for most of the year already. Unvaccinated people stand an even greater chance of getting sick by using these services. Just like the government makes you wear a seatbelt, because if you do get in an accident, the chances you'll land in an ICU is exponentially greater.

And of course the solution to minimizing China's influence is continuing with old, dirty forms of power and transportation AND not investing in domestic clean energy production. I'm curious too. 2-weeks ago they were recording 200 daily deaths. And their case total is still around 20,000 and we know Deaths are always a lag indicator of cases and Florida ICUs are quite full. Will the Anti-body treatment be free? Will it be covered by standard Health Insurance?

No one, I know, is calling for that. I think many people want to hedge against broad lockdowns again. It'll happen is we see ICU occupancy above 1000 (speaking to Ontario here). In BC and Quebec passports are already a reality. Businesses don't want to close down again. And if you look at numbers in Alberta, they could be heading in that direction again. The numbers will be there for everyone to see. If unvaccinated continue to lead Hospitalization, then we will see some sort of proof of vaccination. Many private businesses are already looking for proof of vaccination. They just want a more secure way/fraud proof way to prove it. Right now the receipt given in Ontario is completely forgeable.

The only metric that matters is Hospitalizations. And that number is going up and, at least in most of Canada, most of the people hospitalized are unvaccinated. If that swings to older vaccinated people then we'll be in Booster territory. Sounds like we'd be chasing our tail. But as you say, deaths are not really a huge issue in Canada. In the US, on the other hand, Average deaths are back above 1,000.

So do you draw the conclusion that the vaccinations are making the infections worse? Or could it be fully vaccinated people who are getting infected and sick are part of an already vulnerable group? And where we see Hospitalizations, without the vaccine, you may be seeing a death. We'll also see skewed data when the majority of the population is vaccinated. The unvaccinated is a smaller pool of people. Though in Canada we're seeing that a healthy majority of the people testing positive are unvaccinated. I suspect this could be because you can only get a test, covered by Insurance, if you're symptomatic. I don't pretend to claim that vaccination prevents infection. That's a new talking point from the Anti Vax crowd. The more people getting infected, and not knowing it, provides more evidence that the vaccine works.

Bill Maher talks about this. It's another societal problem. People don't want to be told that they're unhealthy. It's fat shaming. And that goes across political spectrums. You think people who refuse to take a vaccine will take kindly to being told that they should eat less Red Meat? FREEDOM!!! I agree, but there are few objective statistics that paint the whole picture of someone's health. Your bloodwork numbers can be fine, but you're overweight, you can be thin and very unhealthy. But you highlight that this really should be up to the individuals. That's not really how public health works. A lot of the Anti-Vax rhetoric surrounds not believing what studies say. Boosters for people with waning immunity is probably a good idea. Ontario will offer them for vulnerable people. A blanket booster, at this point, would be overreach. But that's just my opinion, what do the experts say?

Your first link doesn't filter out for the percentages starting this year when variants that targeted younger people became dominant. So we go to mandating vaccines from people that have some, difficult to define slate of co-morbidities. Much more complicated and unenforceable. Is a BMI above 30 a co-morbidity? Only if percentage of fat is above 30%? Much better/easier to mandate vaccines, since they're overwhelmingly safe.

From a theoretical perspective that may work. But many young healthy people are still getting sick. And they may not know of underlying conditions that make them vulnerable. A vaccine is the most sensible option. Especially when you start talking about Health Issues. There are tough objective standards to be applied for that. Obesity? Blood Pressure Issues? Cholesterol? We get a lot of good data from the Government. But we still don't know the ages of those Hospitalized now and how many have obvious co-morbidities. It leads to assumptions.

In theory it should, but the risks of getting a vaccine are still next to non-existent even if you have been previously vaccinated. Trump still got vaccinated.
