TBH, the only other term or accusation that's as accurate as pettifogging is "ignoring the elephant in the room", really. There's no such thing as "peacefully interfering in police business" lol. FYI that's called "committing a crime", not "peacefully protesting". Optionally, people can just be arrested for what they're doing, but it's not actually a big charge that they would be facing.
