  1. You can think all you want. My tale is true.
  2. Why should electronics companies sell their products to retailers at a fraction of the retail price? Because without retailers there is no market. Without the pipeline, there are no royalties.
  3. I agree so there's nothing to argue. Barring critical evidence because of a loophole is ridiculous. Reasonable suspicion to investigate while pursuing another legal action should be enough.
  4. Feel good photo ops are coming out. Does that mean that his regular plans are on hold? Or did they ram through everything they wanted in the first year?
  5. I think BC should have the right to get royalties for oil going through the pipeline. After all, they do have more risk than Alberta. In a capitalist society, isn't risk supposed to be associated with a higher potential gain?
  6. Do you think that voters would choose an 8 year old? Would they have enough sense not to? Let's look at the reality of politics. - In provincial politics, we put ministers in charge of areas they have no clue about. Ontario had a conservative education minister who was a high school drop out, for instance. - Current politicians pass bills about technology use they don't even understand. If you are saying that we need to increase the qualifications of all politicians, then I'm for that. I'm tired of economics degree theorists, political science majors and lawyers running the country... Let's get some people who actually know what they are talking about in there.
  7. I suppose this is true. If I was a paranoid nut and installed a keylogger on the family computer to get my wife's login information. That's unethical (I think illegal too?). But if I found out that a child that I thought was mine, wasn't. I'd still use the info. Context is very appropriate. The context of this(not just any) Conservative government putting this through is less palatable. Especially given the nature of their actions as a whole.
  8. I know corporations do. But if a CEO is acting in the interest of a corporation and say, ends up dumping toxic waste into lake ontario... Shouldn't the CEO take heat for that too? Not just a fine to the corp? Shouldn't someone who invests a corporation be liable for the workings of that corporation? Making something for nothing is the name of our game. Rape the environment, cause health problems and who cares!? Not my problem. THe CEO and Shareholders should be liable for more. You shouldn't be able to invest in evil without it coming to clawback at you. If I invest in oil companies, I invest in their raping and pillaging of the land in 3rd world countries. Just dumping toxic wastes into the water supply. If you want to get rid of people who are jerks, you have to get rid of their ability to easily be a jerk and get away with it. I don't like how it won't let me embed pictures. http://www.bigfatwhale.com/archives/bfw_446.png
  9. I'm confused by your Ghandi quote. Ghandi was a non violent protester and you support right wing gun nuts.

  10. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-allows-rcmp-border-agency-to-use-torture-tainted-information/article4497677/ So... we can't torture but, we can use information gained through torture. I guess we'll have to hire private companies like Blackwater to do the beatings but, the information is good to go! The Conservative version of Canada is awesome! Can we get the death penalty with confessions made under duress too?
  11. Victim of right wing corporate propaganda. How many years of statistically improbably drought and high number of hot days will it take for you change your tune? Environment Canada predicts 100 cm decline in levels for Lakes Michigan and Huron/Georgian Bay (middle lakes) over next 20 - 40 years. It's obvious that humans have an impact on climate. If I go and cut down the forest, less water is held and the area becomes more arid.
  12. I think it should be up to the voters. Don't you? Seriously. If you are old enough to be taxed, you are old enough to run.
  13. Take away unlimited liability of corporations. Take away corporations as their own entity so CEO's must bear the brunt of negligent decisions. That's a start. You can't invest in evil when you are liable for the result. You can't enact evil when you are liable for the result.
  14. A couple of two teachers fool. One works first semestre, the other works second = Full teacher salary.
  15. I do heavily support their lipservice for small businesses. He can't act on it right now so, it really is just lipservice. Small/medium businesses are important and ever diminishing... I think we really need to break up large corporations that control more than 25% of a market, if we want our system to last a bit longer.
  16. I never said that I expect them to win heheh. I know the PC's will likely hold it. I wish for that at very minimum. No more majorities for Dalton.
  17. I have some teacher friends who homeschool in Ontario. They said it is scarily easy to do so.
  18. IN this current political climate of labour hate because some people fought to job security and better wages, I'd prefer NDP in this seat to balance it out a bit more. We have both PC and LIB on the labour hate side right now. Either way, I just hope the citizens of KW have enough sense to NOT give the Liberals another majority.
  19. Either way, After a decade of poor government, the US may very well be on the verge of falling off the financial cliff. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/08/22/u-s-facing-its-worst-decade-heading-toward-fiscal-cliff-congressional-budget-office/ The change never came.
  20. I couldn't follow the bolded part but, got the gist I think heheh. Some have said they have a public relations problem. The reality is that they have a media reporting problem. Union leaders have had interviews... they go largely unreported but, can be found in the recesses of the internet. It's borderline 1984esque. Pretend they said nothing so you only have the governments word to go on. Teachers haven't demanded more. They are just trying to get less taken away. Make no mistake, they are making concessions and understand there is fiscal plight in Ontario. The grid is about slowing the cost of young teachers. Teachers already start at a lower salary than firefighters, police, nurses, etc. and then they move up. If they can't afford the grid increments, it's because they are horrible fiscal managers(nothing new). "Hey, all of our older teachers retired and we have new, young teachers with student debt moving up the grid. Maybe we should account for that?"
  21. The legislation looks to make even work to rule illegal. THEY CAN'T EVEN STOP DOING VOLUNTARY TASKS because it requires a strike vote... which is being declared illegal. That's just not right. If they are being forced to take concessions, they should be able to all say "I'm out, get some parents to coach the teams I'm not paid to coach" If you knew anything about how the bargaining went... Knowing teachers and respecting collective bargaining. This WAS NOT bargaining. "Here are the parameters. Accept it." - Hired Lawyers(Note: It wasn't even the government that showed up!) "We don't like it, how about this deal where we accept a wage freeze for 2 years?" - Union "Unacceptable. Here's the governments parameters, your deal does not match them exactly. Accept them." - Hired Lawyers That is exactly how it went. You pretend to know what is going on but, you don't. You have no clue. You've read some articles on the mainstream corporate media sites and bought all of the rhetoric. The government never intended to bargain... They never tried. You can't bargain with "These are the terms, accept them."
  22. You don't even need a climate model to show that dry, hot days are more likely to occur. Just some simple math skills and some data to do a statistical analysis on. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/08/04/climate-change-real-scientist.html Deniers need to wake up and realize that they are just parroting bs funded by a corporate world that doesn't want to have to pay for any negative effects of their business.
  23. You call it fairness but, you won't be saying that teachers deserve a raise when times are good. Because... that would be fair None of these solutions are long term. The drummond report gave some good plans for cutting. It included avoiding a lengthy and costly fight attacking wages and warned against it. 5 Billion in business subsidies? How about that? 1.5 Billion in all day kindergarten? how about that? This legislation is just an attack on organized labour because of today's Zeitgeist. I don't know anyone who took the time with a professional career focused diploma/degree who is suffering. They all have jobs. I know two that lost their job but quickly found a new one for more pay. Our unemployment isn't ridiculous. We don't have ghettos forming. People believe it is much worse than it actually is because of the global, not local situation. The corporate world and media of Canada has capitalized on it to push an austerity agenda. OH, and fat cat 1%s get yearly bonuses that often exceed a teacher gratuity for an entire careerfor one year of work. Just saying.
  24. Taxpayers do have a choice. The vote for the person who controls the money. They can lobby their government and petition citizens... Doesn't matter now though. We have entered an age of "Hate everyone who has more than I do, and actively try to take it away" era. For now, our corporatocracy is winning. Make no mistake about it. People used to fight to improve their working conditions and wages, now they fight to get everyone else's taken away. The corporate world is laughing, they don't need to even try to negotiate when the general population hates themselves so much.
  25. I recently travelled to Montreal, stayed in the burbs with someone we met in Uni. Here was my take. The French suburbs are the least friendly place to be in this country. No one says "Bonjour" or looks you in the eye for fear of you being Anglophone. It's like they are trying to hate you for your language. The people we stayed with noted that this was a problem, many Quebeckers feel to Anglophones the same as red neck racists feel to Africans. The downtown is much more multicultural and friendly, English could be used easily (presumably because they want my money). People aren't trying to hate you for your language down there. Made sure to go to Schwartz for smoked meat, it was a good friendly place. Overall - I'd never want to move there as an Anglophone. But, the down town experience was good.
