  1. Absolutely. About 4 or 5 years ago. Don't even know what this is supposed to mean. Nasal drip? Loss of bladder control? Monday to Thursday of this week.
  2. I agree this is a likely scenario, but that's not going all out to attain "herd immunity" as PC is advocating. We don't even know for sure yet if having the virus gives people immunity, or how long it lasts, if it does. People get flu and colds every year, repeatedly. Why do the promoters of "herd immunity" think this virus would be any different? It would literally take years for Canada to attain herd immunity if we did it slowly; a vaccine will be much quicker. Promoting infecting as many people as possible as quickly as possible because "most people don't die from it" and we'll attain herd immunity that much faster is extraordinarily stupid.
  3. Are you a doctor? Did you go to a doctor? Did you have a test? Was the test positive for Covid-19? I ask because an untrained guy self-diagnosing based on symptoms he read about online is about as credible as a politician making promises in an election campaign. Or, in other words l, not at all likely to be true. Even if you did have the virus, your "herd immunity" idea still means that people get very sick and people die. Just because you survived doesn't mean someone you care about won't die from it. Who amongst your family and friends are you ok playing a little Russian Roulette with, while you promote "herd immunity" in your neighborhood and social circle?
  4. The problem with this is that we wouldn't know till after the fact if the death rate was 5% or 0.3%. When reports first came out of China, I saw estimates as high as 8%. When Italy and Spain became epicenters, I saw estimates between 3% and 6%. Its true that estimates continue to drop, so that's good. Its also true that the regions that took early action to limit community spread also have had fewer deaths. The same pattern was seen during the Spanish Flu: the sooner and better the authorities were able to enforce social distancing, the fewer deaths there were in that region. You seem to think that governments or the WHO have crystal balls, to have certain and unchangeable answers on limited data. They're still discovering things about Covid that will, over time, change how dangerous its considered. We are unlikely to have a reliable mortality rate for this virus for quite sometime. At this time, experts aren't even certain that immunity is gained from catching and recovering from it. Also, herd immunity requires that 70% of a population be immune. Without a vaccine, that means 26 million Canadians would have to become infected; its thought that between 25% and 50% remain asymptomatic, but they don't know for sure. But lets go with 50% - thats only 13 million sick Canadians. Of those 13 million, approximately 6% will need hospital care - thats 777,000 people over and above the usual hospitalization numbers for flu, cancer, heart disease, car accidents, etc. Over what time period could hospitals in Canada accommodate 777,000 extra patients? Certainly not within the short period of time in which the virus will spread. And the less able we are to care for sick people, the more of them will die. Our deaths from Covid are relatively low because we have been able to keep our health system from becoming completely overwhelmed as happened in New York, Italy, France and Spain. As you cavalierly consign people to sickness, death and permanent disability in your herd-immunity plan to "save the economy", you'd better take a look at those nearest and dearest to you and decide who you'd be willing to sacrifice for a few extra bucks in your bank account. Offering strangers up in sacrifice to "the economy" is easy. Sacrificing your loved ones for the benefit of strangers' financial security is a whole other ballgame.
  5. What a bunch more work for you. I do appreciate your willingness to create that extra work for yourself, so thanks. Hope it solves the issue.
  6. All of us, apparently. Under house arrest but still ...
  7. That seems to be the plan, so why so much complaining still?
  8. Sure, but how is that relevant? Sure they are but how is that relevant? He lies, he fires people merely for disagreeing with him, he gave his family powerful jobs in the administration, he randomly undermines political allies and enemies, undermines institutions that support democracy, is a sexual predator, he manipulates situations to benefit himself, his family, his companies, gives millions more to the already rich, golfs on taxpayer money. Trumpsters support all of that, yet if Trudeau misstates something - deliberately or accidentally, inadvertently bumps a female chest, takes a free helicopter ride to a rich friend's island, visits his quarantined family on a weekend, undermines his own poltical ally (JWR), hires an extra nanny on taxpayer money, Canadian Trumpsters howl like its the end of the world. Trump supporters are stupid; Canadian Trump supporters are both stupid and hypocritical.
  9. Just thought this needed repeating.
  10. Super dumb. Like, so unbelievably fucking dumb. Its like you don't have a clue how illness works, or how it spreads, how some people never get sick, some get sick, and some die. Not to mention, people in Canada can go outside; we in BC can even go to stores and walk in parks - because our government got a small jump on this virus, and most of us, like most Canadians, have followed guidelines set out by experts, and most of us understand the basics of life, even if we're not experts in virology. Thank god you conspiritards are a minority. Please, all of you - head out and comingle closely in large groups. Darwinize yourselves.
  11. "They" also say that some people have serious covid-related side-effects, even if they had a mild case or didn't know they had it. "They" also say that there can be long-term health effects from Covid; they may even be lifelong and life-altering, if SARS and MERS are any indication.
  12. I am inclined to agree with @Rue on this one ... this 'time of peril' is limited; if we voluntarily consent to government monitoring even for "contact tracing", that opens a door, permanently. We are already monitored enough. Rather than government monitoring our movements, individuals can do what is necessary to keep themselves and others safe. If people fail to practice safety guidelines, they can be fined. That at least targets risky individuals for government action, instead of everybody.
  13. He got out of the way of experts, provided a clear and consistent message based on latest info from those experts, supported the provinces, worked quickly to provide support for people and businesses affected by Covud. He didn't throw any twitter tantrums, didn't declare the virus a hoax, didn't hawk dangerous snake oil cures, didn't promise the virus would be gone by Easter, hasn't encouraged returning to normal while cases and deaths are increasing, Nobody has said Trudeau or our government couldn't have done better, been better prepared, acted more quickly. Nobody has denied that some other countries have done better in terms of testing, tracing and controlling outbreaks - especially in those countries where people are accustomed to a heavier governmental hand. But "better than Trump" is a low bar to set, and Trudeau has cleared it with ease.
  14. Culture is also considered a reason why Sweden has done relatively well with more relaxed restrictions. Swedes are more accustomed to thinking in terms of societal benefit over personal benefit and more willing to voluntatily follow the guidelines suggested by their government. Still, Sweden did set restrictions on gatherings (no more than 50) and closed high school and universities.
  15. What you mean is .. a 12-year-old would fall for your BS because they have no experience politically or in life, and still of an age where critical thinking is barely a possibility. Sadly for you, this forum isn't composed of 12-years-old, and your "arguments", being at the level of a 12-year-old, aren't working.
  16. People have pointed out the ways that Trudeau has done better than Trump; you ignore that. Nobody has given Trudeau an absolute pass, like you have Trump. Trump's dismissing the seriousness of the virus for months and his hawking of unproven "cures" resulted in people dying, but you refuse to even see that - choosing instead to throw everyone under the bus, except Trump. Many of the people who recognize what JT did right don't particularly like him, wouldn't vote him, and have said so. Your adoration for Trump has made you stupid.
  17. So who is "The Lincoln Project"? "The Lincoln Project is an American political action committee formed in late 2019 by several prominent Republicans. The goal of the committee is to prevent the reelection of Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election." (Wikipedia) From the Lincoln Project website: "...the priority for all patriotic Americans must be a shared fidelity to the Constitution and a commitment to defeat those candidates who have abandoned their constitutional oaths, regardless of party. Electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort." It's nice to have it confirmed that not all Republicans think Trump is the best thing since sliced bread. But no doubt Trumpsters on both sides of the border will view this ad and group as nothing short of treasonous.
  18. Happened to see a documentary on that just yesterday. Turns out that when hormonal therapy kicks in, M2F transitioned people perform at female levels, not male levels. So, this is just conservative scare-mything.
  19. True enough that I can't argue it, other than to say that religion is irrelevant than, and there's no reason to "respect" it, or, I suppose, dislike it.
  20. It's also true that the manual stick car also regularly drove us to cruel and inhuman behavior, and much of it not that long ago. "Love thy neighbor" was literally your neighbor, not the guy in the next town, city or county. "Judge not, lest you be judged" did and still often does not apply to those whose beliefs or lifestyles are different. I understand the role religion played in explaining our natural world, but I don't think it "progressed" our humanity in any significant way. Even after Jesus' more moderate message of love and acceptance, Christians have had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into every progressive initiative that sought equality for women and other groups. They may claim, now, that Christianity led the Western world here, but history would tell a different story.
  21. “At this point in the crisis, the worst you can say about the Canadian response is that it has been basically competent—what you would expect from a country with a functioning political and health care system. The United States, by contrast, hasn’t cleared this lowest of bars.” — Zack Beauchamp

It is the one country that failed even worse than China at dealing with the virus.

Lol @ anyone who takes China’s numbers at face value.  You’re complete and utter morons.  Useful idiots to the Chinese regime.  Regardless it’s actually New York that couldn’t clear the lowest level of bars.  Everybody else with competent governors and mayors did just fine.  Btw, who is Zach Beauchamp?

The US is not the worse country, according to CTV news this morning Sweden has the worse record per captia… who knew that doing nothing would get you the number one spot....

  22. Not all travel, only some travel. 40,000 people still arrived from China after the ban. So you know, pretty lame ban. Of course, Trump then counteracted any efficacy the ban may have had by downplaying the seriousness of the virus, promoting fake cures, and providing absolutely no leadership in regards to effective pandemic control - which is physical distancing and testing.
  23. With your plan, everybody suffers. With my plan, everybody does better - except the truly bad guys, they suffer. But our society isn't nearly ready for anything like that.
  24. Exactly what I said earlier, this thread isn't about discussion, it's just to bash liberals.
  25. So the "easy" of throwing people in jail is right, and the "easy" of a gun ban is wrong. Ok. We too can agree to disagree.
