Trudeau to spend a billion dollars pleasing anti-gun nuts
dialamah replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
80% of Canadians approve gun ban Argus, are you seriously suggesting that 80% of Canadians are 'anti-gun-nuts'? In a democracy, isn't it true that what the majority wants, the majority should get - 80% seems like a pretty strong majority. Perhaps we should appreciate it when a government action actually coincides with what most of it's citizens want. -
Haha. I recently started playing Scrabble Go; I'm quite popular, and its been a real eye-opener the range of attractive men in positions of power and wealth who play Scrabble, have been widowed and want to be friends with me. I'm always sad when they resign the game and disappear shortly after I mention my kids, grandkids, dogs and husband. Maybe it's the dogs standing in the way of our friendship??

Vancouver's noise bylaw information page says: Oshawa's bylaws also allow for Church Bells ringing. Victoria's bylaws allow for Church bells or chimes. Toronto's noise bylaw says nothing about Church bells, but if it bothers you, you can report it. Ottawa's noise bylaws specifically permits ringing of bells from any religious house or meeting; I can only imagine this would include calls to prayer. On the other hand, Mississauga doesn't seem to have any exemptions for Church bells, but they do allow for 'special religious events and festivals', under which the evening call to prayer during Ramadan has been permitted. Only the evening call, and only during Ramadan. I don't have time (or interest) to check every municipality across Canada, but it does seem that, contrary to popular opinion on this forum, Islam and Muslims are not being given 'special permissions' to do something other religions are not allowed to do. But no doubt the anti-Muslim gang here and everywhere will continue to spread the misinformation that Islam is being treated 'better' than Christianity. Oh well. Residents complain about Church bells.

There is no flaw in 'conservative philosophy'. The flaw is in humans who take it to extremes. The flaw is in politicians who lie. The flaw is in a system where the point of 'opposition' is to knee-jerk "they're wrong". The flaw lies with partisanship among humans; an extreme 'us vs them' mentality. As a society, we need both 'conservative' and 'progressive' voices adding to our political system and defining our society. What we don't need is extreme partisans acting as if the other side is the enemy and must be eradicated, or claiming that the other side has 'has destroyed Canada'. We live in one of the best countries in the world, and we got here through the efforts of both conservative and liberal governments. If I were to say there was a flaw, it would be our capitalistic system which relies on and even demands constant growth and increasing consumption, and this is something which both conservative and liberals support.

Did you fail "thinking 101"? As if a government couldn't be good at some things, while still being complete failures at other things.

I remember a time when we discussed a newspaper article that featured a family of Muslim immigrants, including a young woman who talked about her plans for post-secondary education. But you weren't having it: she was wearing a hijab, and she'd never be allowed to do anything but be a breeder, you said. Of course, millions of women around the world earn their degrees while wearing a hijab, they work as teachers, doctors, nurses, scientists-even as heads of State - all while having their hair covered. Still, you ignored all of that and even though you knew nothing about her, her family's values, their history or their hopes and dreams, You simply dismissed her ability to be anything *but* a breeder because she wore a hijab. You predicted her entire life based on an article of clothing and in contradiction of every educated and professional hijab-wearing woman in the world. How are you different than the people you complain about?

As a person who is involved in Crown Land dispositions, this is not accurate. Crown Land tenures are applied for; we don"t go chasing after developers, recreational or residential users. Part of the decision making when considering an application is the environmental effects of whatever activity is proposed and the people who make the decisions take that pretty seriously. They also have to balance that against economic benefit, not just to the Crown, but also to the public who may gain jobs through the use of Crown land. It's a balancing act, and often someone isn't happy about whatever decision is made. Other than that, I agree with you that it's important to take care of our wilderness areas, and that wildlife have "rights" as well. It may interest you to know that in BC, users of Crown land for adventure tourism, recreational actvities or filming are required to include plans on how they'll mitigate impact to animals. There are also times and places where no activity is permitted in order to safeguard wildlife in that area. Not trying to say that government always gets it right, or that they couldn't do better, but it's not a free-for-all either.

Certainly possible. As for the rest, the only time Trudeau has been mentioned is when you bring him up and you appear to be arguing against stuff I haven't said, so it's completely ignorable.

You are taking a single action, which was only a partial ban, and hanging all your praise on that. In addition, commercial airlines had already suspended flights, the result of an advisory by public health officials to avoid travel to China. It's only Trump and Trumpsters who claim he was way ahead of everyone, or that his half-assed travel ban was some kind of genius move. Pointing out your illogical thought processes and fantasy notions isn't the same as defending Trudeau. I've already said, more than once, he coulda done better, along with virtually every leader in the world, including Trump. You, on the other hand, cannot seem to admit even the slightest failing in Trump. I couldn't even call you a propagandist; a zealot would be more accurate.

The only "utter stupidity" here is coming from the guy who claims the country that has the most cases and most deaths in the entire world, in total and per million, is an example to follow.

If there's global tyranny, we'll all be repeating the same lies, so there'll be less divisiveness. Always gotta look on tbe bright side, I say. Although I don't see how this global enslavement will succeed, given the differences of opinion among various heads of State. Not to mention, tyrants generally insist on subjects working themselves to death for a pittance. Making people stay home and giving them money for it seems pretty anti-tyrant to me. Real tyrants would use sticks and guns as they're doing in India. Or welding doors shut, as we heard about in China. I think your theory that because people can't run in a park, tyrannical world domination is upon us is rather silly.

His tattoo bragged about his affilliation with the 3 percenters, not the GOP. The 3 percenters are a far-right militia group. Nowhere does the article say "the Dems" made him do it. I'm guessing (cause the article doesn't say) that it was The Patriots management that suggested he remove it. Anyway, the moderating here allows liars to post whatever, which is unfortunate. Guess I'll just have to put you on ignore.

Yeah, I've seen that ... some pro-Trump rag pushing an Israeli scientist's idea that the virus has a 70-day cycle, and social distancing makes no difference In the meantime, old folks and their caretakers are getting decimated because ... no social distancing. And Mission prison now had 50% infection rate, because no social distancing and once it starts, it just keeps going. Every single country in the world sees rates of infection start to decline when social distancing is implemented, or the curve remain low if implemented quickly. But some random scientist goes against all the evidence out there and suddenly everybody else is wrong. This claim is along the same intelligence curve as "maybe injecting a disinfectant would work. Are you looking into that?

It's only black and white in the sense that people are people the world over, and throughout history. Some people believe they/their group is superior, and are fearful of "others" who look/believe differently. They take action (which can be anything from speaking out to murder or incarceration). They justify their actions in various ways, whether that's claiming their God demands it or for protection of their group, tribe or country. You saying that "there can be no racism due to Islam" is irrelevant when it comes to those Muslims who believe that Islam requires Jihad, the conversion of everyone to Islam or death, who use specific Koranic verses to engage in or counsel others to engage in violence against others in order to gain Allah's approval. Both Islam and Christianity can be, and have been, used to support all kinds of racism, oppression and murder. You can condemn people who do so, and you should, but you can't say it's not part of Islam, just as Christians can't claim that their violent believers aren't Christian.

Wow, are you visiting from a different reality? Trump did NOTHING that helped the States; even his much admired 'travel ban' was a flop since it banned virtually nobody. The States has done much worse than Canada; what a shame they didn't follow Trudeau's example. To start with, we are testing at 9,812 per million; the States at 7,181 per million. The States has 2,991 cases per million people, has lost at least 0.017% (55,417 people) of it's population to Coronavirus; so far, 0.31% (988,975) of it's population has tested positive for the disease. Canada has 1,234 cases per million people, lost 0.008% (2,673 people) of it's population to Coronavirus; 0.13% (46,895) of our population has tested positive. If we were doing 'as well as' the States, we'd have had 5,913 deaths by this point, with at least 105,000 testing positive. This site shows us that currently, the US has the most cases and the most deaths of any country in the world, including China. Perhaps some other countries will catch up and surpass the States, but to claim that we ought to have followed Trump's example and we'd be doing better is complete and utter nonsense.

Of course Muslims aren't "supposed" to be racist, just like Christians aren't "supposed" to be racist. They are, however; do you suppose the Muslims attacking Coptic churches in Egypt think they are 'racist'? Of course not; they're doing it because "Egypt is an Islamic nation, and these Christians don't belong". The behavior and thought process of these Muslims is no different than any Canadian Islamophobe saying "Canada is a Christian country and Muslims don't belong". They're not being racist (or Islamophobic) in their minds, they're just saving their country from people who look/act/dress/believe differently.

Perhaps you could just take a look around the world, eh? But since you're being so obtuse, here you go: https://centerforinquiry.org/blog/a-call-to-the-muslims-of-the-world/ https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/the-imam-who-twisted-his-faith-to-preach-race-hatred-murder-and-violence-120337.html Just a couple of examples of how some Muslims use their scripture to support attacks on those they deem different and inferior.
-
What? Are you trying to say that you've seen no evidence that religious people use their holy books to support war on others? Must I remind you that people calling themselves Muslims have been waging war against other Muslims and non-Muslims for years. They do so because they hate/fear differences, believe Muslims are superior and as far as they're concerned, Allah agrees with them and supports their actions. They can find scripture in the book that they use to 'prove' it. DoP can quote that stuff chapter and verse for you. People calling themselves Christians have done the same in times past, and some of them still do so today. Especially when it comes to abortion in Western countries, and in the not too distant past - gay people. In Africa today, some Christians are attacking and killing non-Christians in the name of their God. If you really think this is all fake news from from propaganda videos, might I suggest you take a time out from posting on political forums and look at a bit of history and current events with regards to religion and it's bloody, racist, homophobic and misogynistic teachings.

I know a woman who actually does strip naked and toss her clothes into the washer and herself into the shower after she's been out. People are scared (I am, but I try to be reasonable about it), whether it's actually warranted or not. For me, it's the government response that is most concerning - governments don't lightly shut down or slow down the economy so it seems to me that not controlling the virus looks more dangerous to them, economically and politically (cause dead people on your watch isn't good).

Yes, and US intelligence was aware in November and Canadian intelligence was aware in January according to a link I posted. So why did Trump do nothing for months? Why did he downplay its seriousness for months? Why is it WHO's fault if countries sit on their collective asses, despite having the same or better information than WHO does? If these various reports are true and WHO knew in November, and the US knew in November and Trump knew "way before WHO called it a pandemic", why aren't you calling for an investigation into the US intelligence and Trump? Why only WHO? Why won't you insist on US authorities taking responsibility for failing to recommend travel shut downs or wearing masks? Why do you ignore the way Trump downplayed the seriousness of this virus - even though he knew way before the rest the world how serious it was. I don't really care how stupid Trump is, you know. I doubt the stories about the US intelligence knowing about the virus in November are true; I'm more inclined to believe that both US and Canadian intelligence got similar information regarding how it could progress, well before it was called a pandemic, perhaps in late December or early January. I expect they said nothing to the unwashed masses (thats us) because they hoped China would be able to contain it. As I've said before, everybody made mistakes somewhere - starting years ago by not being prepared for a pandemic. Trump just wants to scapegoat WHO because he spent months reassuring Americans that it wasn't serious, it was under control, it would be gone by Easter, for for failing to have medical supplies prepared, for failing to develop or implement any kind of coherent plan. That's all on Trump, not WHO, just as it's on Trudeau for hesitating until the last possible moment before taking any action. But at least Trudeau eventually took some decent action, instead of playing around on Twitter and recommending quack cures.

I might like it; how bad are you, exactly?
