  1. Well when you look at it as "they work for whoever will hire them." It's not like there is a lot of choice. You make it seem like most labour workers have thousands of options available to them all over the world regardless of any barriers.
  2. I'd hardly say the highest bidder. Many workers sell their labour for whatever they can get in many parts of the world. Including some parts of Canada.
  3. In contrast the working poor produce everything. And for very little too. Though robotics is changing that. Imagine this.. A very rich but kind of lazy guy knows a lot about baking and with his knowledge comes up with a recipe for baking a cake. The recipe looks good but the person that came up with the recipe does not want to test it so he hires some people to try it out. So they gather the ingredients and bake this delicious cake, everyone loves it. So of course the rich guy takes all of his money and hires hundreds of people to bake him cakes every single day so he can sell them. He has not lifted a finger in the entire process. Who deserves what portions of the profits? Now imagine he doesn't even come up with the recipe, he hires someone to do that too. Who deserves what portions of the profits then?
  4. It's like people just think they throw a bunch of money at an idea and it just magically appears, without anyone to do the actual labour to create it...
  5. We don't need a Canadian Donald Trump. We need politicians who are accountable to our people.
  6. Jobs and benefits are nothing without people to occupy them.
  7. I've never had a problem with proboards. Been a member of multiple forums, even ran a few myself. Me and some friends use one for our hockey pool, which probably has more permanent members than this site. I've even been a member of a 100+ user forum 100% hosted on just the proboards site without any problems, the real problem was when they switched to vbulletin, which eventually led to it's shut down.
  8. There are always sites like proboards and forums.net. If you don't want the rest of the site, just the forum. Purchase your own domain name and link it to the forum and you're set. There are ads on the basic forums like proboards but a simple ad-blocker installed on your computer will make them go away. If you don't have ad-blocker software and your browsing the web I don't know how you can manage to do it because it drives me nuts without it. Sites like proboards offer a tonne of support and with the plugins you can customize the forum damn near anyway you wish. https://www.proboards.com/ The costs would be low and the basic proboards forums actually have more options than this one.
  9. Yeah I think if it has anything to do with work he should be let go. No one cares about your religious beliefs just do your damn job. if he was a passenger I would say just get off the bus and take another one. Although that now raises questions about people being forced to do things for companies whose owners are religious. If this was a big Jesus saves bus or a anti-abortion bus and I had to drive it I would tell them to stick it too.
  10. On one hand I don't think we should pander to much to religious beliefs, me being an Atheist I am more for the separation of church and everything. On the other hand people should be allowed the freedom of their beliefs. This is a tough one.
  11. Not when all 3 are responsible for different tasks. We could have a majority Conservative Parliament passing bills, a Liberal PM whose job it is to run the country around the laws and an NDP GG whose job it is to handle international matters. All 3 do their jobs with and separate of each other. Get the popcorn out, it could get interesting.
  12. I think what ends up happening is people realize that their constituents hold no real power, because they often vote along party lines, and thus just vote for the party whose leader they want to be the PM. So we make the MP's and the PM responsible to voters and voters only.
  13. I think that puts to much power in the hands of one individual. Having a PM focus on just domestic policy can only help the country. The less on one persons plate the better.
  14. I've always thought that Canada should ditch the whole queen thing and keep our old titles and move to a more multi-party republic style democracy. Every four years we get together and vote on 3 separate things. 1. We vote for an MP to represent our local constituency and us in Parliament. 2. We vote for a Prime Minister who's function is to form a Cabinet and tend to mostly domestic matters. 3. We vote for a Governor General, someone to represent us on the International Scene. The face of Canada, a great public speaker. Duties would include holding negotiations on international treaties, be assigned commander-in-chief of the armed forces and many other things.
  15. No one is forced to do anything, not sure where you got that from, It's their choice weather they want to use them or even work at all. You think the righties would be all over this. Heck the moms could even apply for a job at the daycare, get two birds stoned at once. Sure moms can work without state run daycare but they'd have to find someone to look after their kids either way. Most parents just stick their kids in front of a tv these days anyways I don't see a whole lot of actual parenting going on. Might as well get them working, at least part time. Generate some economic activity.
  16. It really is a non-issue with most people. Especially many people out west. I think mainstream media actually makes a bigger deal out of it than it actually is. Quebec will be one of the last things on my mind when I go to the polls.
  17. Some for sure. My parents had no choice but to both work when I was young so I spent most of my life up to the age of 11 at day cares and babysitters. There were many children there with me, I still know some of them. We all turned out fine. I got to see my parents at night and on weekends. Never thought anything of it and I'm sure they were just happy they could provide for me.
  18. We all know about them already. It doesn't seem like many people care..
  19. Just saw this on my suggested feed. Thought I'd share it in here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz48r9uROG0
  20. If it gets moms working rather than sitting at home taking care of kids I'm all for it.
  21. A true communist country should actually be devoid of any state, currency or class structure. None of the so called Communist countries ever achieved this. And there really wasn't ever a collective ownership of anything in Stalin or Maos visions of communism. A working class rule has really never been achieved in the modern political history of human kind. Human's might even be to corrupt to ever let it happen.
  22. That gets hard because everyone will define a big or small government differently, it's very subjective. I'd say it has a lot to do with the scope of what government controls in not only the personal lives of its citizens, for example a self surveillance network, but also control of the economy. If a government has very limited control of the economy, that economy will suffer, regulations are what saved us from the last global recession. If small government had their way, the housing bubble would have burst, the dollar would have went down the drain and many industries in Canada would have either left or closed down long ago. I agree but all parties do this to an extent. Harper has been championing intrusion into the private lives of Canadians since he got into office.
  23. That maybe true but it is only ever true at certain particular moments at particular points in time. You won't find a single wealthy government that isn't big . It's funny how much some Canadians want a small government but want all the perks that come with the big one at the same time. Of course governments can get to big but they can be to small too. There is a Goldilocks zone when it comes to this stuff. The Left champions more control, the Right champions less. In the end they are both wrong, they need each other to strike a balance. It's the Ebb and flow of government. Right now we have had far to much Right and need a little bit of left, then the right can come back in and trim and the left can come back and beef it up. It's just to bad we don't have a party that knows how to keep both sides happy enough to achieve a near perfect balance.
  24. I bet this poster is from the same hive-mind that our favourite poster Socialist is from. "Hey what can we do to make the leftists like us?" "How about we pretend to be overly socialist, like to the point where it's annoying and overwhelming, to the point that no one would ever actually take it, then we pretend to have a major breakthrough. An overnight breakthrough, an epiphany, these people are just dumb lefties, they'll buy it." Go figure a writer from an american conservative news network is trolling a Canadian political forum, possibly under multiple aliases. What is it with these people and trolling on forums? Need some click-bait for your article bud?
