  1. You have seen the evidence from financial advisors that investing in companies other than fossil fuel companies produce the same or better returns than fossel fuel companies. You are just spouting off without investing any energy on your part to see if it's a good thing. Again, I repeat, why the backlash. You say it's for ideological reasons. But why not? And in the meantime, if they can get better returns and encourage companies to invest in alternative energy solutions, why not? You have not provided a good reason for them not to divest of these investments.
  2. 17 people have died in Canada since 2001 after stun-guns were used by police. 530 in the u.s. since 2001 http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=4ccf8040-2666-4463-b73c-9e531dab20e8 http://www.infowars.com/more-than-530-taser-related-deaths-in-u-s-since-2001/ We know that the U.S. is approximately 10x the population of Canada. Go figure.....
  3. Honestly, that's all you can come up with.
  4. I don't understand the backlash against universities proposing this. It will certainly contribute to investment in cleaner energy research and isn't that a good thing for our planet? Isn't that what we all should be aiming for?
  5. Not exactly. They proposed this way back in the spring of this year. http://sustainablesfu.org/actionareas/climate/fossil-fuel-divestment/press-release-march/
  6. Is is possible for a creator of a thread to be notified when the thread has been unlocked?
  7. SFU has also joined the movement to divest of fossil fuel investments: "More than 100 faculty members have signed an open letter asking the board of governors to stop investing in fossil fuels with the university’s endowment money." "The campaigns are part of a growing movement across the country that saw the Concordia University Foundation in Montreal announce last week a partial re-investment of $5 million of its assets into sustainable investments that don’t include fossil fuels, weapons or tobacco." http://www.vancouversun.com/news/simon-fraser-university/move+join+growing+divestment+campaigns/10442135/story.html#ixzz3LkWAFrgF I'm glad this thread was finally unlocked.
  8. You do not see the damage because you are speaking from a male point of view. And to say it is destroying someone's life is a bit exaggerated, don't you think? It has certainly educated many people on the risks of tweeting offensive remarks to say the least. Everyone has a second chance to start anew. Perhaps this fella will think twice on his next job. He just has to remember that there are probably 1000 guys behind him waiting for the same opportunity he had.
  9. And in fact, Metro Vancouver has a referendum question next spring. 'Increase PST by .5% to subsidize public transit'. Motor vehicles are a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/pst-hike-of-0-5-proposed-for-metro-vancouver-transit-referendum-1.2870043 It will be interesting to see how the lower mainland votes on this issue. Will they put their money where their mouth is?
  10. Remember when the women's gold medal winning team in Vancouver 2010 got chastised from every media except Canada's media for smoking cigars on the ice. Hell yes, they know how to celebrate.
  11. Have a look at the women's hockey team performance in the olympics. They provided great incentive for the men.
  12. You are embarrassing yourself by attacking the poster and not listening to the arguments. You seem bent on attacking the poster and teachers in general. Do you seriously think that socialist is educating all our children and that socialist speaks for all teachers. Why not listen to some of the thoughts being brought forward. Unfortunately, socialist has been targeted for 'trolling' while at the same time, bringing up good thoughts on our education system in Canada. It's too bad that some posters can't get past that.
  13. I saw her perform on some music award show. Can't recall which one, but for such a young gal, she has no problem stepping outside the boundaries and expressing her artform. She is very creative.
  14. Sounds hilarious! Will check it out.
  15. You didn't address this: gaining entrance to a teachers college and the requirements to obtain a full time teaching job. Let's face it. You don't like teachers or the profession.
  16. I was wondering how long it would take for this to be posted. It's a non-issue and not a blow-up. It's a handful from the sikh community and will not have a big impact.
  17. You only need to take a look at the turn around with the vpd and dtes. It has been a struggle, no doubt about it, but since the pickton murders on his pig farm, the cops realized a greater need to listen to the folks in the neighbourhood. The result has been an increase in 'community policing'. I see no reason why this can't happen in other 'urban cities'.
  18. I have spoken before of members from different backgrounds contributing to this forum and it's great to have AboriginalMan contributing. As the saying goes, 'let's hear from the horse's mouth'. We can spout off all we want with our perceived expertise but it is so refreshing to hear from those who actually experience living on reservations. For most of us, we can only speculate.
  19. You are just looking to attack teachers. I'm just not sure why the vendetta.
  20. Plenty of professions offer well paid salaries (same as teachers). Have a look at engineers, IT, etc. They all require the same amount of post secondary education. You should take a look at benefit packages for some of these other professions. They are pretty sweet.
  21. I love it. If mama ain't happy, no one is.
  22. The moral of the story is that cops should value human life over power tripping. #valuehumanlife
