If Harper is not pandering to homophobes, social conservatives and religious nuts, then why is he "re-visiting" same-sex marriage? It was not an election promise he needed to make. And given his history of flipflopping on election promises, it is not an election promise he needs to keep. Not very politically astute are you? Think about it. If he presents it now in a minority parliament, who's going to be in favour and who is going to be against? Why is he bringing it up if he knows it has no chance of passing? Because he said he would, and he won't have to deal with it again.

Since you have put this into Moral&Religious Issues, what about today's show like "Smith" (cancelled) that makes a Heros out of the bad guys, or the CBC show Intelligence, or the Sopranos each of these type of shows seem to make being a bad guy as acceptable to the masses. Is this type of programming good for our society? What about the trend of writers doing scripts based on recent news stories, doesn't this blur reality from fiction? Story writing today is excellent(Lost,Prisonbreak),but I prefer to watch from downloads wthout the commercials,the interruptions drive me nuts.

Changing the voting structure to the method you suggest will not change having a minority government. As long as we have more than two parties vying for the votes the odds of minority governments will always be present,even if you had 110% of the population voting. If you don't vote, you can't bitch about the government in power. An incentive to vote might help get people out to vote, like a $100 fine or a tax break,but if people don't care, they just don't care,and there is little one can do about it.

With the ex wanting $23,000 a month tells me there's a lot of money involved and probably a couple of years in the courts. I think his mandate as a mayor will end before this divorce finalizes.

The initial amount of asbestos found was well below standards but the government wanted to do thorough inspection,suposedly to take two weeks. With a Million dollars being spent to house the squatters in a hotel for one month, why couldn't the government have an mass inspection in a couple of days? There a lot of companies who remove asbestos who could be hired to inspect without the million dollar price tag. Obviously Prentice doesn't think there is much concern about the asbestos if he's talking about renovation.

Also in the equation is the fact that the Tsu'u T'ina don't want these squatters back. They are about to build a huge casino in those parts and these squatters will be a hinderance in attracting tourists to their casino. Good question,why is Prentice pushing to have them returned. Why not demolish the buildings instead of pumping $$ into those old army buildings just for squatters.
