Trudeau turned me into a Liberal. Trudeau/Turner turned me into a Conservative. Mulroney turned me into a Liberal. Chretien turned me into a Conservative. Martin kept me a Conservative. Dion/Harper will keep me Conservative. Reflecting back to Mulroney and Chretien, both were arrogant, but I'll have to give marks to Mulroney for doing more for Canada than Chretien.

We had two leaders picked this past weekend. A national party leader picked by the representation at a convention. Five thousand people represented 195,000 members. At the same time the Alberta PC's picked a new leader by the one person-one vote method having 145,000 members vote. Which way is the best method for picking a party leader? Why is it better for the party or the party members. Which is most democratic?

Dion's Clean Air Plan Rips Off a David Suzuki report?

Please stop trolling. How am I trolling? My response is legit. Ironically, your response is typical trolling. Careful Gerry, that last statement looks a lot like plagiarism of Cybercoma's idea. -
When Dion whips Harper in the next election.....

Will Stéphane Dion ever be PM of Canada?
Canuck E Stan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Bob Rae was the cat's ass, you kept saying , he was going to lead the Liberals out of the darkness, now you've discovered Dion......sounds like you really did your homework when you looked at all the candidates. All this jumping on and off the popularity bandwagon must make you tired. Interesting how issues that were very important to you have become lost in all the hoopla. Like you said keep trying, never give up,someday the Liberals will have a real leader......did I hear Justin knocking on your green door? -

How do you manage each day knowing you're just the funniest person alive? It must be a huge burden. When he loses the next election he'll want to use his French citizenship passport. -
Dion's Clean Air Plan Rips Off a David Suzuki report?

What......oh no,......a Liberal who's a leftist religious zelot, bringing religion into politics. Pray for his and Bob Rae's soul. -
Chrétien to PM: 'Can I call you Steve, like George W.?'
Canuck E Stan replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And the rest of Canada in the next election will say enough already, we don't need another one. -
Within government Dion was a lousy environment minister, he had the chance to do something about Kyoto other than naming his dog Kyoto. On another note, Kennedy sent 900 delegates his way, analysts say had it been the other way around Dion's delegates would have renaged and not gone to Kennedy because of his Quebec stand. That would not have been surprising.

144,289 people voted for a PC of Alberta leader, would you expect everyone to be happy? Less than 5,000 Liberals voted for their leader, I would think that some of the other 195,00 Liberal members who didn't have the opportunity to vote would also have some that weren't happy.

When Belinda put forth her proposal for one person-one vote, the Liberals at the convention rejected this most democratic of processes in favour of the same old-same old. One person-one vote The Liberals still do not want to accept change to a party that remains in denial that it will not be governing Canada for a few more years to come. As one columnist called him Stephane "Di-yawn", a failed environment minister, will do nothing to bring the Liberals back into power. If anything, it will alienate most of the 98% of Liberals who not only didn't get the opportunity to select him, they will definately question this choice for a so called "renewed" party. Stephane Dion along with his dog Kyoto, are still be same old-same old.

Great opportunity for both the new Liberal leader, "Stephen" Dion(when he goes out west) and for the Conservative leader, "Stephane" Harper (when he heads into Quebec.)

So who is your pick for the Liberals?
Canuck E Stan replied to Biblio Bibuli's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Dion is in the final ballot,Rae delegates will go with Ignatieff, or Ignatieff delegates will go with Rae. So I don't think that Dion will win in the end. As was said on the convention floor by a conservative senator,"What you have here is a failed environment minister,up against a failed Premier, up against someone who hasn't lived in this country for three and a half decades." The winner? You're right, August. Stephen Harper. -

Nothing sums up how I feel better
Canuck E Stan replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So you consider yourself entitled to create 10 times more pollution than a chinese or an indian person? You are special indeed. Also if your neighbour's dog poops at the entrance to the building, you ought to get your dog to poop 10 times as much and that will make the entrance real clean. Good thinking! This is false. Besides these emerging asian nations make up half of the world's population and North America makes up only 5% of the world's population. You should not be shocked that 3 billion people produce more greenhouse gasses than 300 million people do. You should have read the article, you would have seen it was CAMERON SMITH of the Toronto Star that made those statements. So from what your saying is that it really isn't about doing something about climate change,it's about the giving money for climate change. Canadians and BIg Oil should pay money to China and India and that would do something for the urgency you say is needed for climate change. And it's okay for 3 billion people to produce greenhouse gases because there are more of them and giving them $$$ will be help in the urgency of reducing greenhouse gases. Of course India and China don't belong to Kyoto but that's ok because somehow we will reduce the greenhouse gases much faster. And of course you want your 7 points to be in effect by 2012, because we don't have much time left to do this reducing. Maybe we should just pay our way out to reduce greenhouse gases, let's write a real big cheque for say,$100 billion, then we could eliminate greenhouse gases for Canada next year. Yea,let's do it. We don't have time for long term solutions, this problem needs action now. Let those in the rest of the world live with the problem of their 94% of greenhouse gases. WE could breathe easier, because we would have completed our share of the program,so the problem won't be ours anymore.....and all it took was money. Next election vote Liberal, cause the solution to climate change is simple, and it's right in your wallet. -
Nothing sums up how I feel better
Canuck E Stan replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why bother with all this complicated stuff? 8) Forget items 1-7, write a big fat cheque for $10 Billion dollars, and all the problems are solved. It's the Liberal way, quick, easy,on target and end of the problem. Thank goodness for this solution, now future generations can breathe easier. Emissions trading on the rise How stupid I was to think climate control would take a long time to fix. Vote for your favourite Liberal leader and climate control can be fixed tomorrow. -
Nothing sums up how I feel better
Canuck E Stan replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nice speech, but just another useless complainer. I've asked this question before, what is YOUR solution to the problem. Oh sure, wine about Rona, wine about all this taking too long to fix, but what is YOUR solution? This government is starting a process,it will take time.Don't like it,ammend the program, They will listen. YOU want it now, well complainer, this won't be solved now,it won't be solved in ten years,it won't be solved in twenty years, and it won't be solved in thirty years. So forget about it ending in YOUR life-time. The process has to start, and Rona is starting it now. Every day the opposition rejects the plan is another day the plan is not started.Don't like it,present a solution. Get off your pity-the-government-is-too-slow mentality and get it moving. I hear you bitching,I don't hear you offering a solution. Same old useless complaining about something you have nothing to offer. Electing another government's will not make a difference in YOUR lifetime. Face reality. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
Canuck E Stan replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not really. Read your post again. This was in response to: It was the troops opinions that you were calling specious and doing a disservice to the memory of their dead comrades, not the Globes opinions and not mine. I think my comments are more than justified and I would like to watch you say it to the face of one of those people. Disagreeing with their opinions is one thing, belittling their opinions and their feelings toward their friends who have died is quite another. You may not agree with their logic but surely you must understand and respect it. Surely Gerry will apologise for this awful, awful belittlement of the soldiers opinions towards their dead comrades. You will express your error on this one won't you Gerry? -
Bob Rae vs. Mike Harris
Canuck E Stan replied to SamStranger's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Too bad the slave driven Ontario government isn't in the "standard 40 hour per week" world. Ontario law says an employer can make you work 48 hours a week and only has to pay you overtime after 44 hours and is only required to give you 11 hours off between shifts. An employer isn't even required to give you a reason for being terminated. Where is the Liberal left to change these "slave" rules that have been in effect since 1968 http://www.worksmartontario.gov.on.ca/scri...ntID=5-1-1-1#H1 -
Why would you think this has played out in any way, shape, or form yet? This "stronger stance" only occurred days ago. Some think it's showing strength and standing up to the Chinese. Many others see it as pure politics. I think there's no question it was simple politics. He's seeing the election around the corner and so he thinks talking big with the communists over human rights will gain him some sorely needed respect among Canadians. And if he didn't talk about human rights, the Liberals would go after him for not doing so. I'm shocked the Liberals haven't applauded Harper for talking human rights, it seems like a very Liberal thing to do. With the Liberals not giving kudos to Harper for going after Human rights I'm begining to think Liberals don't think the issue is very important to them anymore. Who's playing politics here? Liberals once again. Fortunately Canadians know better and see through the Liberal facade of being a caring political party of the people. All in their minds, all thought, no action, as the past has constantly shown.

I too heard a guy, who heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy that said your threads are assisine. Don't be an idiot. He was the very first caller on the Rex Murphey radio show on Sunday, November 19th. If the best you can do is attack me over something like that then give it up. He was Chinese and had spent a lot of time in China on diplomacy work and the like. What he had to say was his opinion, and I happen to agree with it. Harper's moves are for the domestic audience (and that's playing out) and won't buy anything with the Chinese. If you want to work on human rights you need to ENGAGE and GAIN INFLUENCE. That's "the guys" words. Nice description, but who, who, who, was he? And who, who, who,was the guest?..........and why was he more qualified than the guest?...........back up your statements.......idiot.

So the date is April and not June 28th according to your calculations, whoopie doo. My bank account tells me I pay through the nose in taxes.I see my tax dollars being used and wasted for programs that don't do anything for me,my community,my province or my government. The Liberals treated each grand surplus like it was it was a profit windfall, and something they were proud to achieve.Only problem was,it was on the backs of the working people, in the form of taxation. The Fraser Institute date may mean something to you,but to me, Tax Freedom Day,is the day I don't ever pay taxes again.....and that my friend, will be the day I'm dead.
