Here’s a list of US Universities, ranked by the number of Nobel prize winners. The best that the loser state of Florida has is 45th place, the University of Miami, with a measly seven Nobel prize winners. Which goes to show you that Florida is pathetic in education, and California ROCKS. Harvard? 161 Nobel Prize Winners University of California, Berkeley: 110 (UC Berkeley has so many Nobel winners in its current faculty that they have special parking lots reserved for Nobel Laureates only). Stanford, in California: 84 California Institute of Technology: 76 University of California, San Diego: 27 UCLA: 25 University of California, Santa Barbara: 14 University of California, San Francisco: 10 University of Southern California: 10 University of California, Irvine: 7 (finally!!!) in 45th place: University of Miami: 7 https://www.bestmastersprograms.org/most-nobel-prize-winners/2 points

I can understand why you can only offer vague platitudes. Our system has been evolving for many centuries. When you can offer specific changes that will encouge people of ever greater merit to enter politics in the face of the obstacles such as, not just abandoning time with family but threats on their spouse and children and death / rape threats on themselves, interruption on their careers at their prime earning years, and constant whining from constituants who can't be bothered to get educated enough to know what they are taking about, and everybody you meet has their greedy hand out. If these politicians get so much money, how come I am getting requests from Pierre Poilievre to help Peter MacKay, a veteran MP and former cabinet minster, pay off his debts. Now, I wouldn't urinate in Mr. MacKay's ear if his brains were on fire after he stabbed the Conservative party in the back, but this is an illustration of the sacrifices our politicians make in the service of their country. Criticisms from voters who are ignorant of what a great system we have and the fine people who make those sacrifices (even Peter MacKay) are nothing but cheap shots. If you can do better, get off your high horse and put yourself forward.2 points

December 15, 2022 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), senior member of the House Committee on the Judiciary and former impeachment manager today was joined by 40 of colleagues in introducing legislation to bar former President Trump from holding federal office under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, “No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” “Donald Trump very clearly engaged in an insurrection on January 6, 2021 with the intention of overturning the lawful and fair results of the 2020 election. You don’t get to lead a government you tried to destroy,” said Congressman Cicilline. “Even Mitch McConnell admits that Trump bears responsibility, saying on the Senate floor that ‘[t]here's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day.’ The 14th Amendment makes clear that based on his past behavior, Donald Trump is disqualified from ever holding federal office again and, under Section 5, Congress has the power to pass legislation to implement this prohibition.” The legislation details testimony and evidence demonstrating how Donald Trump engaged in insurrection against the United States. It specifically details how Donald Trump engaged in insurrection when he helped to plan and encouraged the insurgence on January 6th despite knowing that the election results were lawful; attempted to intimidate state and federal officials when they did not support his false claims and unlawful plans; tried to manipulate Mike Pence into unlawfully refusing to certify the election results, despite Mr. Pence’s and legal advisors’ assertion that he held no such authority; and supported the violent insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th, refusing for hours to denounce or act against the mob and putting thousands of lives in danger. Original cosponsors of the legislation include Representatives Earl Blumenauer; Jamaal Bowman; Tony Cardenas; Andre Carson; Sean Casten; Judy Chu; Yvette Clarke; Emanuel Cleaver, II; Gerald E. Connolly; Danny K. Davis; Mark DeSaulnier; Adriano Espaillat; Dwight Evans; Jimmy Gomez; Al Green; Sheila Jackson Lee; Pramila Jayapal; Henry C. “Hank” Johnson, Jr.; Mondaire Jones; Conor Lamb; Barbara Lee; Ted W. Lieu; Alan Lowenthal; James P. McGovern; Jerry McNerney; Marie Newman; Eleanor Holmes Norton; Donald M. Payne, Jr.; Chellie Pingree; Lucille Roybal-Allard; Jan Schakowsky; Mark Takano; Rashida Tlaib; Ritchie Torres; Nydia M. Velázquez; Bonnie Watson Coleman; Nikema Williams; Frederica S. Wilson.1 point

No, they were asking for a presidency not earned, while "peacefully" smashing both people and property on their way to peacefully "hang Mike Pence." You are one hungry little troll, Snufflebutt.1 point

Using Wikipedia as a source would get you an F in any class in a normal school. But I suppose F is for Florida, so par for the course for you. I know a lot about John Hancock. Do you? How about if you try to show off a little brain? Simple question: Since he was already one of the wealthiest men in all of America, why did John Hancock work to overthrow British rule? Cite two sources.1 point

You failed to mention he was a deadbeat who welshed on a hundred thousand pound debt. The tensions with Great Britain were with only a minority of colonists. They didn't like the taxes levied to pay for a war with Quebec that benefited them greatly and that was started by a colonist named George Washington. A large number of Conservative Americans also fought in that war. "They gave up everything, save honour." There were tens of thousands of them fighting for their country and their King. I've never been in a blue state, and never looked at your 1619 project. The only thing I have to do with 1619 is that is the approximate date when my family moved to America.1 point

John Hancock was a convicted smuggler, who initiated an act of terrorism — the Boston Tea Party. He incited rebellion against the government, which lead to an all-out war. But his side won.1 point

It is nice to know our traditions continue. Remember Simon Fraser University in the late 1960's. In 1973, when I was at UVIC, the students forced the President to resign when it was discovered he had a mail order degree. My brother took part in demonstrations at UBC in the early 1960's. My Dad witnessed demonstrations when he was a student at UBC in the 1920's. In the high Middle Ages, university students took over campuses in Italy and the students at Oxford rioted in the town putting the anarchists who took over the demonstrations of BLM to shame. If students don't occupy the Administration buildings once in a while, almost always over costs, they aren't real students.1 point

So, again, what do you offer as a solution, that will also respect our heritage? Your question about "serious business buddy calls minister calls prosecutor in the case..." ignores the fact that the minister refused to call the prosecutor. There is no evidence that a crime was committed by the government, or any political interference with justice, so what is your point? What sort of competition to the government do you suggest? People lobby the government all the time. Everytime you write to your MP or a minister to urge a change in policy such as wanting more accountability, you are lobbying. Your union lobbies the government for better labour laws. Retirees lobby the government for better benifits. The organizations of gun owners lobby the government over firearms control. So how would this "modern democracy work? What form would this accountability take that would be different from what we have now?1 point

It’s really time for Canada to take a strong stance against the oppressive Iranian regime. They act against the will of the people and have lost any moral authority they might have had. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/dec/17/iranian-actor-taraneh-alidoosti-arrested-after-criticism-of-death-penalty1 point

Seriously? Why? This is a woman with almost as many character flaws as Trudeau, whose nearly cold-dead fingers were finally pried off the leadership only to have her sabotage the party and its new leader when it wasn't the one she wanted. This is not a serious party and it shouldn't be allowed to distract people by taking part in debates. I'd say the same for the BQ outside of Quebec, too. All they do is make the debates even more boring and uninteresting than they'd otherwise be.1 point

I consider you an exemplary model of pretty much everything wrong in Canadian society today. You don’t make any connection between stupid views and the problems that result from them. You celebrate dysfunction and can’t figure out why dysfunction reigns supreme.1 point

You know, a very pointed criticism of your post was given and now you have a golden opportunity to show why your counterpart is dead wrong. Saying they remind you of a bygone Iraqi official doesn't really follow and makes it look like the criticism was dead on. I'm only following this chat from a distance but that's how it looks from here. I1 point

The left of which you are clearly a radical member caused most of our inflation: irresponsible overspending, carbon taxes, over-regulation of oil and gas, Biden’s cancellation of Keystone, Trudeau’s new regulations that allowed BC’s communist-green radicals to block energy and resource development through endless consultation… Your side has driven up the cost of living beyond the reach of the workers you pretend to support. It’s just fake green-woke rhetoric and bad policies that won’t fight climate change but will destroy people’s finances, opportunities, and energy security. Under the NDP-Liberals Canada is just a resettlement site run by international puppet-masters where the quality of life is lower and the cost of living is higher than it was several years ago. Alberta is wise to protect its interests against this irresponsible federal government.1 point

Of course. The only purpose of this bill in its entirety is to allow the Liberals to pretend to ignorant urbanites who know little about firearms but that they don't like them that they are protecting them. And to portray the conservatives as being of the same mentality and mind as those crazy Republican gun nuts down south for daring to oppose the legislation. Have you seen the outraged columns in newspapers because some Montreal hockey player dared to say he was a hunter and opposed the legislation? He's been accused of betraying the memory of the sainted martyrs of l'ecole polytechnique elements of the Left have wallowed in every single year for thirty three straight years now.1 point
