The choice is who is most competent to govern, regardless of party affiliation. We elect centrist parties because that is where the voters believe the best policies lie. Saskatchewan elected Roy Romano and BC elected Glenn Clark. Same party but opposite ends of the competence spectrum. Spewing all this garbage about communists and fascists is an insult to the victims of real communists and fascists. You have no clue what a communist government is like.3 points

And the irony is that the people who spew that stuff don't seem to want democracy anyway - they want Canada to elect a government that will push a fringe view that isn't supported by 95% of voters. Pragmatic Conservative governments have been the most enduring and most popular governments elected. I believe Mulroney won over 50% of the vote. They are better because they HAVE to be. They are competing against a party that sits in the centre and wins election largely by advertising campaigns and image.2 points

What is the point of a "conservative" party that will intentionally lose elections. You want a "conservative" party that will be no different than the NDP; stuck in the wilderness of ideological purity.2 points

A top tennis player Peng Shuai (35) went missing in China after accusing top Communist party official (75) of sexual harassment. Social media accounts were closed and her name disappeared from the media. China has a great record (according to the country's official media) in controlling the pandemic, measures included total shutdowns of cities and regions, massive isolated hospitals and such. Just a reminder to admirers and advocates of strong hand and quick solutions: it always begins with public good, while ignoring and silencing critical questions. From there, a straight path to authoritarianism.1 point

Queen thats not how i meant that to come across, i banded the 2 main rights together i did not try a diminish those rights...then added what ever other little things justin has bribed his voters with..1 point

Part of that requires opening up the constitution and nobody is crazy enough to do that after Meech. The rest requires legislation that might be hard to get passed. The problem the CPC is having is that some members want to bring in policies that are contrary to the desires of a large number of voters. Some of the ultra blue wing are anti abortion, some are homophobic and then there is that one guy who wants to restore power to the Queen. (That would be me). I have long ago come to the revelation that you can't always get what you want.1 point

Maybe it is time to over haul our democracy, maybe our current democracy is just to old and faded. Time to fix all the weak spots. get rid of our monarchy system, bring in more rights, such as property rights, restructure some of our laws, such as our laws defining traitors, going to war for another country or flag as one example, sentencing should also be looked at, as well as the entire prison and prisoner issue... redefine lobby groups and that entire process, your could fill a book here...1 point

If that is true then judging by Justins accomplishments todate Canadians do not have the moral values they once had , in fact they are very indifferent to lies, the cheating, unethical behavior, they don't expect much out of our leadership in this nation, it says a lot about Canadians, none of it very flattering .1 point

The core principles of conservatives is loyalty to Queen and Country and fiscal responsibility. The Declaration of Independence was the antithesis of conservative. The rebels robbed and murdered conservatives.1 point

I conserve the Declaration of Independence and the liberties enshrined in the bill of rights I don't conserve America Derangement Syndrome that is not conservative America conserves what is important, Canada does not and is in fact knee jerk reactionary against it1 point

in Canada they both are corrupt all the time Canadians love corruption and enthusiastically vote for it1 point

Yeah, I was in favor of a Conservative minority last election. I prefer minorities because it requires parties to work together; I don't like one party having unfettered power, even if it's just for four years. And they tend to cater to the extremists within their supporters, which doesn't always engender a sense of trust from centrists. Towards the end of the campaign, O'Toole did start to show some backbone in regards to that aspect.1 point

Interestingly, if it's conservatives who are the 'bad guys', Blackbird says gently (and correctly, imo): Democracy has some positive sides and some negative sides. It is a fallible worldly system that can be exploited by crooked politicians and crooked people. But if it's liberals who are the 'bad guys', Blackbird says very unkind things (and very wrong things, imo): If Canadians want to elect corrupt immoral governments, that is their choice. and liberal voters are too dumb to know what they are doing and corruption and scandals of the Liberals and those who elected them. Blackbird seems to believe that the occasional Conservative/conservative might sometimes be crooked, but that all Liberals/liberals are immoral and corrupt all the time.1 point

No, but at least a Liberal Cabinet Minister prevented SNC getting a deferred prosecution and they cut ties when the WE affair was exposed by your "fake " news broadcaster. Mr. O'Toole is, in my opinion, more competent than Prime Minister Trudeau. If we give him the chance, he will defeat Prime Minister Trudeau, or who ever is leading the Grits, in the next election. The Liberals keep getting elected because the CPC has failed to put forward a better leader.1 point

This is maybe the #1 sign that somebody has no political sense. They use code words like this to signal each other as to their ideological purity but such words mean nothing to normal people....1 point

I believe democracy is overrated it is useful for a peaceful transfer of power and a veto on representatives passing some bad legislation that happens to be wildly unpopular to a lesser extent but it also comes with a lot of baggage the mob is not wise and it never will be it supports all kinds of stupid shit they should be restrained by constitutionally protected freedoms that the mob can't infringe on even if that infringement is popular those who place democracy above liberty and the will of the mob over constitutional protections are clearly fools of the highest order1 point

Mulroney was a cuck, he out Liberaled the Liberals that's why he won, and that's why he was popular "pragmatic conservative" is merely a Canadian euphemism for a liberal wearing blue all roads lead to the Liberal Party of Canada Mulroney is a prime example of that1 point

That's how a democracy works, eh? People vote for who/what they want, and whoever gets the most votes win.1 point

Blackbird, you may believe a "conservative" government is pro choice and not a threat to the LBGTQ community but that is not the perception held by many women and members of the LGBTQ community. Before I retired, I was the Department's liaison with the Pride community so I had a first hand experience with their concerns. We had a local "conservative" MP who was publicly homophobic. Granted, he was kicked out of caucus, but the brand stuck. They saw Scott Brison driven out of the "conservative" party for his orientation. You under-estimate women's determination to have reproductive choice and equality and as long as the party coddles the social "conservatives", a leadership candidate will have to do what O'Toole did.1 point

1. I don't disagree with that, but my point was Mr O Toole had presented his self as a blue tory to the tory convention, which won him the leader of the conservatives, then a very short time later he announces his election platform and it is on the left of center platform ...Thats why the conservatives are in a uproar... they feel betrayed, and a lot of groups that had conservative backing were left in the cold, like the gun lobby etc... 2. Every Politician ever named has pretended to listen to voters needs, and once elected either found those promises not based in reality, or the just conveniently forgot about them. And every election Canadians gather around in groups listening carefully, in hopes one politician is going to hear them. only to be disappointed after the election when promises are no more than a pipe dreams, for the most part. which might just account for our mistrust in politicians , of course I am only guessing. 3. Women, I'm confused by your comment, because Justin has pretty much done everything he can to lie his ass of to them, and yet as you said they still vote for the guy...either they are very gullible, or they are secretively see Justin as their ideal man... The LGBTQ group is another group who's lobby is far to powerful and far to the left and still not happy with the recognition they receive or power they wield . like i said if you don't dance in their parade you are not getting their support. for them you either love them or hate them their is no middle ground. the gay community and religion do not mix very well. 4. The liberals have done an excellent job of divide and conquer, this nation is so divided getting even the simplest things done is next to impossible. There is always going to be one group that disagrees and projects die until they are forgotten. what is needed is someone that can do things that will benefit everyone and drive or force them through. but they are to worry about getting elected1 point

O'Toole was trying to be pragmatic. Stephen Harper was pragmatic. This is the only way a Conservative can win nationally in Canada.1 point

using the environmentalist cause to sell their communist bullshit green on the outside red on the inside watermelon to the watermelons it's all about tearing down capitalism not about protecting the environment the latter is simply a fraudulent excuse to justify the former because the label of environmentalist has less baggage than communist they simply changed the branding, but their ideology is the same they just hijacked a movement with better PR to fool the rubes1 point

wrong you stopped listening to my type of insight and the result is where it's gotten you fake environmentalists prevent proper forest management and have been doing so since the 1970's they started listening to you and the environment is now far worse off as a result you're a fake environmentalist who turns down any suggestions that would help the environment if it helps humans or the economy as well the only "solutions" you accept, are more government central planning, even if that hurts your stated cause your priority is coming up with a rubric to justify more central planning you don't actually care about the environment at all, just controlling the behavior of others and punishing people you don't like anti-human not pro-environment1 point

no I say there are 400,000 new immigrants and you still want to kill jobs it is bad for old growth forests to ban logging because removing trees in strategic areas reduces the damage done by forests fires to old growth forests this is basic forest management that fake environmentalists naturally know nothing about if all logging stopped more old growth forest would be lost to fires as well more homes and lives will be lost to those fires which is already happening thanks to fake environmentalists naively out to save all the trees from logging y'all care more about killing jobs you don't like than protecting the environment your agenda is not pro-environment, it's anti-human as proven by siding against humans even when it hurts the environment your priorities are clear1 point
