One has to want to be "cured". The Trump haters enjoy being in such a state for shared virtue signaling and social currency. Trump is gone for now, except for those who desperately need him to be the bogey man forever. Donald Trump is just another ex U.S. president now...but he still scares the hell out of the haters....even in Canada...because he lives in their heads...rent free.2 points

I laugh out loud at the morons that eat up meaningless terms like military “style” and assault “style” weapons. Style does not mean function. The look of something doesn’t determine its danger. These terms are used to frighten the public whom most know very little about guns at all. The politicians that write these laws seem to know even less about guns.2 points

This ridiculous made-in-Russia line that Republicans have using lately in order to justify their anti-democracy tactics. It’s what you’ll recite when you’re hailing your next leader as dictator for life. America is both a democracy and a Republic. The 2 are not mutually exclusive. And no matter how you try to spin it, nothing is comparable ti Trump’s false fraud claims and baseless lawsuits and smears of the integrity of the electoral system that dragged out for 2 months and culminated with his sack of the Capitol2 points

Texas shows that when you cannot govern, you lie. A lot. Incompetence is not the purview of one party. But when you view politics as theater and grievance-mongering, chances are you are going to shortchange governance. Elect a president with no public-sector experience, no interest in learning, no desire to hire competent people and no ability to accept responsibility, and you get something like the covid-19 debacle. Moreover, if your party is hostile to government and exercising regulatory power because it is beholden to a donor class and right-wing ideologues, you will not be prepared for disasters when they strike. And that brings us to Texas. The Post reports, “As millions of people across Texas struggled to stay warm Tuesday amid massive cold-weather power outages, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) directed his ire at one particular failure in the state’s independent energy grid: frozen wind turbines.” There is one problem: That is not remotely true (as you might have guessed from a state with an enormous oil and gas sector). “The governor’s arguments were contradicted by his own energy department, which outlined how most of Texas’s energy losses came from failures to winterize the power-generating systems, including fossil fuel pipelines.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who had declared during last summer’s wildfires that California is “unable to perform even basic functions of civilization, like having reliable electricity,” had to eat crow: Ted Cruz @tedcruz I got no defense. A blizzard strikes Texas & our state shuts down. Not good. Stay safe! Trump is still it...and is the de facto President as far as half of America and a good chunk of the planet is concerned. But he lives in these woke-folk's heads as you've mentioned...for free. They blew-up Trump's abandoned hotel in that New Jersey sewer known as Atlantic City...they spent all day on that. The imagery! Trump getting blown-up... No matter Trump hasn't bothered with the place in a decade...1 point

Can't lose with Spinal Tap! They created their pseudo-rock supergroup as a parody of bloated, overblown and unfocused rock music of the 70's, and the same lessons apply across the board on many public issues and no-nothing celebrities who are asked or just feel entitled to tell everybody else what they should think or believe on any given subject. Almost 25 years ago now, when my 13 year old guitar student step-son, wanted me to bring home "This Is Spinal Tap" from the local video store, I'm pretty sure he and his friends thought they were a real rock band; since being featured on the Simpsons so many times blurred the lines between real life and fake parody. No doubt Harry Shearer (Spinal Tap guy with moustache), who was a Simpsons head writer along with being a voice actor for the shows at the time, wanted to sneak Spinal Tap into Simpsons' plotlines whenever possible. And nowadays, hardly anyone knows or cares what the difference between real and unreal is anyway! But if This Is Spinal Tap pretty much ended the self-indulgent, bloated phenomena called 'Rockumentaries' (thinking of the Who docs with more Pete Townsend monologues than songs) then that was a good thing!1 point

He is not waiting for anything...just keeping himself in the media spotlight for whatever he wants to do next. This is something that the Trump haters have never understood, and probably never will. It works so well, Trump still gets attention even in foreign nations...like Canada.1 point

Where have you been? That's already the case, especially for natives, who get to go to 'healing centres' rather than prison. Then there's this guy, who threw shit on Asian students in colleges three separate times before being caught. Note this. Global News obtained documents that showed Opoku was convicted of criminal harassment on March 8, 2017, however, he was given a suspended sentence and put on probation for two years. Canadian-Africans should be shown leniency after suffering hundreds of years of racial oppression. Get that? He was given leniency because of 'suffering hundreds of years of racial oppression'. Note that he is from Ghana. Neither he nor his family have been in Canada for 'hundreds of years'. https://www.asian-dawn.com/2021/01/29/targeting-asians-is-still-not-considered-racist/1 point

You have to be careful though. Somebody going through bad depression might want assisted suicide. Depression is generally a temporary thing. Killing people for temporary reasons is not a good policy for society to have. So no, just because somebody asks for it isn't the end of it.1 point

Who said that Putin supported Trump? CNN supported Trump because they thought that he couldn't win the presidential election. Putin just threw out attack ads to get the kids in America fighting, and you're still doing it. The hot mic moment was an actual event that happened, and it leaves one wondering why Obama could be more free to negotiate after an election. Why would he negotiate things with Russia if he knew that they would hurt him in an election? You know that acting against the best interests of your own country is a bad thing, right? If there's such a thing as a Trumptard it's a CNN dolt who just hate things that Trump does because CNN tells them to hate them. "Suleiman was a beloved father figure to the Iranian people!" lol. Talk about fucking retarded.1 point

America has been gradually transitioning to failed state status for 40 years as politicians from both parties have handed power from government to corporations and wealthy elites who lurk outside of the spotlight. Corporations and billionaires have simply become too wealthy and powerful relative to the rest of society, the balance of power has irreversibly shifted in their favour. America is like any number of countless failing kingdoms in history, where US government is like the figurehead monarch who still sits on the throne and laws are still passed in his name but the kingdom is really run by a cabal of mandarins, viziers and local warlords who constantly jockey for power, who in Americas case are the corporations, donors and lobbyists. Nothing short a Bernie Sanders in every elected office could even scratch the surface of the problem and Sanders is unelectable in American society. Unfortunately America is on a one-way trip to shithole country status no matter which party is in power and the Republicans are only making it happen faster1 point

Back when the Repubs were the dominant political party in the US....collecting the lion's share of corporate donations and taking over more and more state and local offices with each election, Grover Norquist (leading conservative intellectual) declared during a speech before a CPAC conference, that: "we need to shrink government down to the point where it can be drowned in a bathtub!" Well, Texas sure provides a great example of the success of that rightwing pro-corporate project. But, what do they do when things go wrong? If government (except for military and policing) is unnecessary interference, what do you do when your deregulated and largely unregulated electrical grid is a dangerous, chaotic mess, and likewise, the poorly regulated collection of power plants (not just wind and solar, but also including natural gas and nuclear power plants, are failing because they weren't equipped to deal with extreme cold). A larger problem has been that as the GOP went lurching to the right since Lewis Powell wrote his infamous "Powell Memo" 50 years ago, calling on the persecuted rich minority class to work together and use their money to fight labor, consumer activism, and the environmental movement, the Democrats didn't offer much of a pushback. It was more like "how can we get in on this and get some corporate cash too!" So, California's electrical grid and power stations also have failed under stress, and the Feds aren't much help whether a Dem or Repub is in office....as Joe Biden is showing every day now.....whether new Dem allies in the MSM will report on it or not!1 point

Because they are required by federal and state constitutions to seat representatives, senators, and president (Article I of the U.S. Constitution). Nevertheless, large numbers of Americans do not bother to vote.1 point

Yeah ok that’s why Putin supported Trump because he really liked Obama freezing those billions of Oligarch money. The billions that Trump said he wanted to give back. Good one pal. Your crackpot hot mic moment is another Republicans made up controversy when you tale something benign and then pretend it’s something it isn’t. Trumtards spent the first half of the Trump presidency claiming Trump was a peacemaker bringing America back from the brink of war with Russia started by the warmongering Obama. This is how they defended Trump constantly licking Putin’s balls and bending over for him. That story didn’t really go over well so of course they eventually tried to flip the narrative but nobody really buys that either1 point

The idea that a "good guy with a gun" is always the hero is disproven almost daily in the States. These good guys with a gun kill innocent bystanders, friends and family members more often than they save the day with their heroic gun waving. My Canadian son, attacked by another Canadian, survived because his attacker couldn't get a gun so he had to use a knife and its harder to kill with a knife. So my opinion is that the fewer guns we have in Canada, the fewer oeople will die from guns. Win-win.1 point

And yet the Republican base was 100% for it, based or fraudulent threat claims that were deliberately fabricated by the Bush regime. There’s a pattern here: Republicans increasingly relying on GREAT BIG LIES, and blatantly false lies not just the usual petty or hard-to-prove politician lies.1 point

Well, I watched it. I loved it and yes I'm a President Biden supporter. Apart from the fact, that he is a Competent Public Official, which he already showed in just one month of his presidency. I find him to be a decent and compassionate human being. So unlike his predecessor who is nothing but a racist bigot! A womanizer. A xenophobe, A divider. A hateful angry old man, who has the maturity level of a 6-year-old(No offence intended to 6-year-olds). A His motto; DIVIDE AND RULE!1 point

Nor Churchill! He was just the last of the line of British imperialists who was trying to maintain England's imperial primacy in the world as the new empire - America, was rising fast to take its place. Churchill as a political leader was a stubborn deadender, who caused unneeded death and suffering at home and especially in colonies like India, where his deliberate starvation strategies in East Bengal caused the deaths of millions! I don't believe in the Great Man theory of history as a general rule. The leaders are not much different than coaches of winning teams getting credit because their names are associated with teams whose owners were willing to fork out more money than the other rich idiots who try to use their money to get in a photo with the championship team they otherwise, had no talent to join when they were young! So, back before our economic system turned into a complete joke (a magical time before central banks were comfortable creating $Trillions of new dollars to spend in and leave as a burden for future generations), an unfortunate leader like James Callahan, who gets the top job in England just as high oil prices and no domestic production yet from the North Sea, presides over the UK's 'Winter of Discontent.' His replacement - Margaret Thatcher, is a subject of scorn early on with her radical destruction of the Social Contract and anti-labour laws. But as oil prices decline, along with domestic production starting during Thatcher's reign, she and her murderous economic advisers are declared heroes by enough of the British public to win re-election. Same scenario from Carter to Reagan in the US during the 80's. And that aside, if it's about honoring the great hero who won the 2nd World War, then you need statues of Joseph Stalin to be put up in public squares! Because Russia and her Soviet allies had to sacrifice 27 million lives to defeat Hitler's armies on the Eastern Front.....where the bulk of the fighting was actually being done! And today, history is being erased as Soviets are being accused of "murdering" German troops who were trying to hold Poland, Ukraine and other East Bloc territories. In some of the concentration camps-like Auschwitz, the Germans and Nazi allies were still trying to liquidate Jewish and other prisoners when the first divisions of the Red Army overran the camps and ended their slaughter. I would credit Churchill for being the lone voice among the western leaders to decide early on that Hitler needed to be stopped before guns could be turned on the Communist East. Roosevelt and US political and business leaders were trying to work out a deal with Hitler until Japan launched an attack on the US Pacific Fleet in Hawaii and changed their plans.1 point
