The OP is based on a lie. Most Europeans and Canadians like the USA. The author is projecting his/her own bigotry against Americans on others. Canadians enjoy a friendly rivalry with our neighbour, but it is nothing more than that. If the United States is an imperial power, God bless the United State. As empires go, they are unique in their generosity and humanity. If you really want to see American imperialism in action, study the Marshall Plan.
The US spent over 50,000 American lives and an incredible amount of treasure to try to give Viet Nam a democratic system. There was nothing in it for the Americans other than to fulfill President Kennedy's promise to bare any burden to preserve democracy in the world. It was a fight against communism, which, along with fascism, is one of the most destructive political movements in history. The United States failed in the endeavour, but they at least tried.
In 6 months the US will inaugurate a President. Who ever that may be, it is soley up to the voters of the United States. Canadians "feared Trump big time." The reason for this is, of course, the impact the policies of the United States on Canada. We live next to a giant. President Trump was an untried, unknown quantity.
The OP refers to hate. There is no, absolutely NO excuse for hate. I cannot think of a better neighbour Canada could wish for than the United States of America.
