He said "significant percentage". We can all see that's what he said. We can all see that he is correct. Why do you insist on this lie?2 points

Keep in mind that the rightista logician ( ) will claim to embrace logic and facts, until such point as you point out the deficiencies in their logic, their data, or their terms. "Foreigners" coming here to get handouts ? Is that why refugees flee war ? Is that how sponsored immigrants come here ?1 point

1 You have not provided any evidence that they do, just paranoid ramblings. 2 No you didn't. I challenged you on your claims about Syrian refugees before, and you provided nothing else. 3 Well, I'll take that as a compliment. Being a thorn in the side of a white supremacist is ok with me. Hiding in Muslim countries, you mean. There are few Muslim countries where they can exist without hiding what they are.1 point

That's the funny part....the other stiffs have attacked billionaires in their policies and rhetoric, but Mike is one of the biggest B's of all. Bloomberg is blasting key swing state media markets with his new commercial, dropping an estimated $100 million just for the blitz...the kind of money the others can only dream of right now. Then he will blow an even bigger wad for Super Tuesday.1 point

The greatest terrorist threat in America today is white christian men. They may be inspired by racial supremacist theory, but if we're going to use religious affiliation as the yardstick, there's something wrong with Christianity. Or, what if religious teaching of any kinds are not the inspiration for killing or going to war, but instead are the excuses applied afterwards.1 point

You can always count on the Murdoch Press for fair and balanced news that does not fan the flames of racism and fascism! And I guess the British quandary is the same s our's over here.......except that it's not! England, like the rest of so called liberal, enlightened Europe, just wants immigrants to try to balance out bad demographics of an aging population. They need more worker bees to take care of aging boomers and do other necessary jobs. But, England, like France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and others, seem to have uncanny ways of red-lining the immigrants away from white native neighborhoods. And thanks to Mr. Third Way - Tony Blair, jumping into charter schooling (privatizing public schools and giving the school tax dollars to religious and other community groups that want to run the school system, should anyone be surprised that the Muslims in East London have used the money to set up their own Muslim schools where kids never interact with a non-Muslim until they grow up and are looking for work. Yet, the Murdoch-inspired fascists want to gin up fear and loathing of Muslims in England because of integration problems they've created themselves by their policies of keeping immigrants at arms length. Are relations with Muslim immigrants in England really worse than with Jamaicans and other Caribbean immigrants? And this propaganda originally from the National Review in 06, doesn't shine any light on the issue either! How about if, here in Canada at least, we keep doing most of what we are already doing regarding immigration and naturalization issues! It's not perfect, but we haven't created the isolated ethnic ghettos found over there. Instead, we have public schools where children meet and interact with other kids from all over the world and from much different backgrounds. It may not be perfect, but it's better than the way they are handling immigration!1 point

Not even close. But you seem pretty intent on jamming it on my foot.1 point

Pew polls of American Muslims show a lot of moderation and patriotism. If you want to talk about specific attitudes, yes there are many that are horrific but you can do that to any demographic and get the same result. When it comes down to it, the topic of "what is wrong with that group" seems to aim towards either general complaining, or a push for action against the group - either state sanctioned or not. So if people want to complain about how they hate Muslims, fine. Lots of people complain about white people too - so be that way, and live in that world. But if you want to start legislating religion, you're making my country anti-western so I will be against you.1 point

I did a project in the '80s in Morocco, and our partners were a very senior member of the ruling elite, but not royals. In their actual business, they were asked by the Ministry of Health to solve the issue of getting large, diesel powered ambulances capable of two stretchers and long range at high speed - just like what we had in Canada. The Chairman (a Canadian educated public health doctor) went to his associates in NS who made ambulances, and all at their combined expense, built a demo model and shipped it to Morocco for evaluation. It was EXACTLY what they wanted. However, they went through the official embassy channels to see if any support would come from Canada (we are a well know sucker for this). In the end, a call for tenders went to Quebec - and ONLY Quebec. The NS company never got a hint of what was happening. Ambulances were bought and paid with considerable Canadian taxpayers' money, arrived in Morocco and were absolute POSs. Morocco Health swore off on anything further from Canada, and some PQ company laughed all of the way to the bank (and you will note no transfer payments were involved, thus no record of favouring PQ). A very good friend of mine was once ADM of Ec Dev in SK. He is an engineer with a strong background on the business side. He worked for years on deals that ALMOST came together and then at the last minute fell apart. He was at a meeting of Ec Dev people in Montreal, and due to his very French name, and ability to use PQ slang, the fellow next to him assumed he was from Quebec started to discuss several of those failed deals, letting my friend know that they had come to Quebec. When he asked how this happened, the fellow asked "it's on the list, don't you get the list??" Turns out that EVERY federal office in Canada would communicate business opportunities to Ottawa, who then prepared a list for distribution only to PQ. Ever wonder why in later years a lot of provincial and federal offices were merged??? I could relate dozens of stories similar to these. Yeah, this place is badly broken - has been for a very long time. As much as I like our biligual/bicultural thing, I have to state the Quebec is the problem, not the solution.1 point

He did whine a bit... and play the victim... But given his long career as the host of one of the most iconic programs in Canada... He was owed a more dignified exit. Like I said... he was flawed... but he was far from evil... when Ron described the rest of that very same episode this is obvious. But this "cancel culture" thing thrives on moralistic floggings... It's like some sort of Sharia state... where we send the morality police out to virtually flog any offenders. It's pretty sad.1 point

A masters. Thank you for the compliment. I don’t mean to speak for Dougie. I’m trying to take his criticism constructively. I’m a dual Canadian and British citizen, but as I’ve spent most of my life in Canada, my first loyalty is to Canada. I won’t say Canada First because of the Trumpian associations. I support Canada’s tradition of multilateralism and think that exceptionalism should be exceptional, like the notwithstanding clause. I don’t worry about the implications of a “post-national state” because I believe people come before national identity and that a country is only as good as the values its people support.1 point
-
Okay so after multiple back and forths with Dougie over his beef with Confederation, my conclusion is that, like many on here, he’s a former Canadian nationalist who feels disillusioned with the Canadian national project because of the creeping nanny welfare state, top down interventionism, and misplaced anti-Americanism, even as Canada depends too heavily on American protection. He’s right to be critical, yet he has also sung the praises of Pierre Eliot Trudeau, who radically dismantled the Canadian military and snubbed the U.S. as hegemon, Western self-interest, and Quebec separatism, while accelerating multiculturalism, bilingualism, and leftism. I think the reason many of us were so awed by PET is because he seemed to have a laser clear idea of what Canada is and could be, a place not bogged down by the interests of a select few places or people in the country, the military overspending and imperialist dangers of the Cold War, or the colonial trappings of Canada as merely Britain’s outpost in North America, and he had a genuine appreciation for the far north and Canadian culture, which is part American, part English, part French, part Indigenous, part cosmopolitan/multicultural, and grounded in a sense of the struggle to communicate, distribute, service, and provide police security across a vast territory with a harsh climate. Many today would say PET went too far in alienating the West, deescalating the military, pissing off the Americans, chumming around with Castro, and so forth. No one would deny that he was a strong and intelligent leader with a love of the country. It’s hard to find visionary leaders these days. The bottom line is that if you think the Canadian nation state has something to offer the world and Canadians beyond what the provinces could offer as separate countries, what the US could offer Canadians if Canada was part of the US, or what Britain once provided Canada when our government was still partly represented in the British parliament, you’re going to have to provide a compelling vision that Canadians will support. We have a good thing in Canada. Most Canadians love the country and want to keep it together as an independent entity. In fact Canada is hugely successful, attracting millions from around the world. It is one of the best countries in which to live and work. However, we need to wake up to the modern realities of migration pressures and global economic competitiveness. We cannot depend on the US as our primary export market or to defend our border. We need to expand foreign markets, manage immigration more carefully in the national interest, and have a military equal to the task of defending our vast territory and growing population. We also have to be careful that our citizens don’t become too soft and dependent on handouts, as has happened in many European countries. We have to be careful not to pander to special interests that threaten our nationhood and spirit, both financially and ideologically. I think Justin Trudeau’s multitude of apologies, inquiries, and promises have done some harm in that regard, even if the intent was the typical Canadian boy scout attempt to complete PET’s just society. We don’t want to kill the giving tree or boy scout, because I think we would have bigger problems if Canada lapsed into fascism or de-Confederated. Dougie would prefer that Canada break up. If Canada doesn’t address the pressure points I described, that idea will become more compelling. If we run into economic trouble, the pressures will be exacerbated, which is why we cannot have policies that prevent resource development or make it harder to do business. I respect JT for trying to balance climate change policy with resource development interests, but we can’t pursue expensive climate policies if our largest trading partners are not implementing similar policies. There’s a lot of ignorance out there about infrastructure like pipelines, which are safer and more environmentally friendly than transporting by truck and train. If we can’t get our resources to market efficiently, you can forget climate policies, because the people will always put food, housing, and employment above other interests, including the nation state.1 point

A poll of British Muslims in 2016 showed that 2/3 of them would NOT report terrorist plots if they became aware of them. So if the "vast majority" say they personally would not kill in the name of their religion - most are happy that someone else in Islam is willing to do so. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/659913/two-in-three-British-Muslims-would-NOT-give-police-terror-tip-offs In 2015, the number of Muslims who enlisted in the British army was about 550. Yet the number of British Muslims who joined ISIS was much higher - 850. That does not include the hundreds that have been arrested while trying to leave to join ISIS. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/many-british-muslims-put-islam-first/ That is 38% of British Muslims that will get aggressive if they feel Islam is being threatened, even if it's not. So this claim: ......is a delusional belief. Even if they would not personally murder, as you say - a significant portion support it because Islam has explicit teachings to go forth and kill.0 points
