What you’re saying only adds to this group’s anger and frustration. The solution isn’t to knock them further into the ground but to lift them up. Trump understands what rhetoric appeals to the “deplorables”. He did the wrestling bit and embraces bikers. His policies have made the one percenters richer and his deregulation of environmental policy will hurt the deplorables first. The only response is a fair-minded, inclusive, big tent approach that brings diverse groups together without letting the fringe interests dominate the political discourse. The Dems and Republicans are too far apart right now to achieve this. In Canada we’re also at an impasse. We seem unable to develop our resources while also meeting environmental goals. Our immigration is adding pressure to public services and home prices, even though some of our northern communities don’t have enough people to sustain themselves and need immigrants. It’s a fight for resources and development, but Quebec and BC don’t want it in their backyards. These seem to be the fault lines of the new economy. Yellow Vests versus eco warriors; old economy versus Information Age; old Canada cultural purists versus multiculturalists; protectionists versus Globalists. We need middle ground.3 points

Do you mean like the Muslim women who are now in custody of Syrian free army or Kurds, most of them are saying openly that they agreed with ISIS and the killing, and all that goes with being a member of ISIS and now they want to come home so they can suck of the western tit of free things...so they can start preparing for the next Jihad......and yet many here in the west see those tears and ask why can we not bring them back" That is what sets my evil detector off.3 points

Thank you... I have no problem with immigration as long as it is stable, controlled and suited to the needs of Canada. Islamophobia is a new word created to silence any possible debate about the problems of Islamic extremism, used with the express purpose of stifling any criticism of Islam while not applying the same standards to other beliefs. Definition of racist = anyone disagreeing with a liberal3 points

You clearly haven't spent any time inside any Communist or other dictatorships (about the only "other" choice). In case you haven't noticed, people are lined up to legally or illegally enter predominantly white, western democracies. Last time I checked, none were trying to get into Venezuela, Cuba, Mao's China, Russia pretty much anywhere in Africa and on goes the list.2 points

Why does someone have to "admire" Islam to disagree with hatred of Muslims? There is much about all organized religions a lot of us do not admire..does that mean we have to hate people who follow these religions? It was disgraceful what happened. Why respond changing the subject to rationalize hating Muslims...that is dumb. We can still be respectful of one another in spite of religious belief differences. The fact Muslim terrorists are killing people does no make the killer of these innocent Muslims any less of an ahole. I disagree with certain ideological beliefs of Muslims but it doesn't mean I hate all Muslims. Anyone being murdered in cold blood should be condemned. We all need to avoid the pies g contest of whose blood is more red. Oh phack the soft pedal..what happened was disgraceful and evil and an attack on all of humanity and this Jew speaks out to Muslims and says damn what happened ...your blood is my blood when this happens and I bow my head in respect.2 points

I'm not sure why the same responses are not required when massacres of other people or religion happen. Does Canada fly the flag at half mast when scores of people are massacred in the U.S. or when Christians are massacred on a regular basis in other countries? This is not to downplay a terrible tragedy, but people do see a double standard in reactions and press coverage, so it's natural to wonder why one religion in particular seems to be given priority and coverage. Certainly if we wish to stand up for equality, peace, liberty and freedom apologizing for Islam is a total contradiction .2 points

Oh yeah? What's there to be happy about? My cause to limit Islam's influence on MY society is hurt by nut jobs with guns. That some want Islam to dominate us all just to put me in my proper place shows who really delights in tragedy.2 points

Aligning yourself with vermin is unlikely to gain much respect for your words. Has it ever occurred to you that you are in the distinct minority in this country. Which means the views of those who want to lower immigration are mainstream and you are the extremist. Only 6% of Canadians told pollsters they wanted to raise immigration vs over 50% who want to cut it. You remind me of Trudeau, who, a few years back, expressed such disdain for conservative views on the niqab and said if he thought those were the values of English Canada he would return to Quebec - and now Quebec has passed a face covering ban! Trudeau wasn't even in touch with the values of his own province, much less Canada's. And neither are you.2 points

Oh for Gods sakes, even Hillary Clinton has admitted that it is the migration into Europe which is driving populism, nationalism and the rise of extremist parties. You are like all the political elites in Europe, who all had the same attitude as people started to complain about the rising number of foreigners, who sneered at them, and imposed laws to prevent them from speaking their minds, who imposed draconion rules on their parties to unconditionally support migration and resettlement. And what did that accomplish? The rise of far right parties, the rise of nationalism, the rise of extremism. I will quote from David Frum once again. "When liberals say only fascists will guard borders, the voters will hire fascists to guard the borders."2 points

The parliament hill guy, and the guy who ran down the soldier on the other side of the river, and the Somalian refugee who ran down a cop to try to steal his gun and then ran down more people on sidewalks in Edmonton and the guy planning to bomb the mall in London who set it off in the taxi instead when police cornered him, and the group that wanted to blow up the CN tower when arrested, and the guys who wanted to derail a train south of Toronto, and the guy arrested on the street two blocks from my freaking house on a terrorism warrant. Still don't know what he was up to but he was reported by his own mosque, and the Kingston guy arrested a couple of months ago... right off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more. NOT the same magnitude.2 points

I don't think anyone disagrees in it being disgusting to shoot at unarmed people praying. But once that's said and agreed on by all here - and I believe it has been - that doesn't leave anything else to say unless you want to discuss the causes and affects which surround it. Thus I was addressing your statement, specifically "Islam is not the problem any more than Christianity". Islam IS, in my opinion, a problem for western society.1 point

I have to say i am really impressed with the genuine empathy shown by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who looks as if she lost her own family members in the attack. Contrast this with the robotic out-of-touch behaviour of Trump. May god bless and guide her, great leader indeed.1 point

If you look at the analyses of the motivations of Brexit Leave voters you find economics low on the list. In fact, most acknowledge that leaving the EU is actually going to damage the economy. But they're willing to accept that. They left because they didn't want decisions for their 'tribe' made elsewhere, and to be better able to restrict the members of other tribes entering their territory. And it's worth noting that this sentiment occurred despite the fact that most of those who had been entering the UK over the previous few years were white Christians from eastern Europe. https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/brexit/2018/05/04/leavers-have-a-better-understanding-of-remainers-motivations-than-vice-versa/1 point

Actually fear of foreigners taking jobs away from people born in the country is the no.1 negatives stereotypevof f immigrants. However that said that soon wears off and friction comes from other things as well. I don't disagree I just think there two are linked.1 point

-
That may well be but I rarely hear anyone saying "Them furiners is gonna take our jobs!" I think people tend to understand that a mass of new people create jobs as well as taking them. All the concerns I hear are about suspicion this particular group, especially Muslims, are not going to assimilate, and that the great mass of people born elsewhere, which is much higher than in most any western country, is going to push aside our culture and values and substitute some amorphous set of values and beliefs which have their origin elsewhere - outside the sphere of liberal western culture. And the suspicion is this new set of values will be hostile to much of what we now believe in.1 point

Excellent point. If we can not resolve such differences resentment of each group towards the other grows until it reaches the point of combustion and the fact is there is a limit to what can be accommodated in our society if we want the freedoms we have. Anyone not just Muslims who want to opt out of our existing value system in the name of multi-culturalism need to know that can only go so far and right now some Canadians have this naive belief we should accommodate intolerance in the name of tolerance. No we should not tolerate intolerance which means opting out of common Canadian values we don't like such as treating women equally or segregating who we swim with. These issues are not going away.1 point

Most of those non-reported incidents are the result of our leftist liberal politicians and the leftist liberal media that refuse to report on these incidents. They have no problem going after some white guy when he says something that appears to be words of hatred. They will then go after them and try to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Muslims are committing plenty of crimes but for some reason we are not supposed to hear about them. All hush-hush. We all know that they treat their women like chit. We all know that they hang gay people. We all know that the infidel is not their friend but their enemy. But yet we are always treated to the spectacle that all Muslims are wonderful loving and caring people. They refuse to assimilate into their host countries culture and traditions. They instead try and change it. It certainly looks to me like there is a big cover up going on here to try and protect Muslims from being criticized for the many wrong doings that they have been committing. Bad news.1 point

Sorry but that's crap. In fact, studies have shown Trump's supporters tend to be economically better off than the average. They went to him for a variety of reasons, and the poor economic outlook of certain semi-rural or smaller industrial cities was just one of them. Economics is not the primary motivation behind the rising anti-immigrant sentiment in the West. The primary motivation is cultural, an instinctive sense of discomfort that rises the higher the number of 'other' are within the tribe's territory. It is this which drove Brexit voters, and this which is lifting up the extremist anti-immigrant groups in Europe.1 point

Why would you say that when Rue has repeatedly shown that he makes a clear separation between Islamists like you and other Muslims? Is it a need to lash out at him in particular because he's a Jew? I know Islamists hate Jews, after all.1 point

The media definitely is inconsistent in how it reports such things. That said all these deaths are equally as dispicable. I also think suggesting there is some right wing ideology to scapegoat for this attack is counter productive to rational discourse as to what creates such behaviour. The elements that cause this behaviour are complex and often immitate previous similar behaviour. Also the livestream of this attack looked like a video game. I appreciate a killer kills for many reasons not just playing videos but the live cast could easily have been mistaken for one so I wonder if these killing games incite unstable people and if so to what extent.1 point

That is not what you said you quoted that the government does not track far right extremists....which is not TRUE, period..... This is a double edge sword , with people being guilty of these acts on both sides, not just extremist right wing nuts....these new laws or policies you want to bring in have to reflect this...But in Canada today we can not debate this openly for fear of being called a racists or Islamophobic….look at this site for instance.... Both have responded to this incident....they were late getting out of the gate, that does not mean in any way they agree with the attack, your pulling straw out of your ass again....1 point

The term 'prejudice' means to 'pre-judge'. I'm not prejudging Islam, I'm judging it. I've seen its behaviour throughout the world, and that of its adherents, and have read more than enough of what it preaches to judge it as an ideology dangerous to western, secular values.1 point

You're free to love Islam. You're free to join...it's a religion. Others don't want to join and don't want Islam lording over society telling them what to do, think, wear...etc. There are plenty of Islamic countries for you to go to and live your life and beat your wife...if she deserves it.1 point

Hillary is a puppet of the imperialist cabal. It's US imperialism, invasion of Muslim countries, destabilization, sanctions, regime change and theft of public resources for private profit that is driving migration, fomenting hatred and the rise of extremist terrorism. Would you like to talk about the African slave trade up the east coast which allowed Saudi Arabia and other Atab nations which presumed blacks were 'inferior people' to be dragged out of their homes and made to toil in the sun for the remainder of their brief lives for a thousand years? Arab racism towards black Africans goes back eons. And the Arab world today is one of the last vestiges of slavery, especially in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.1 point

I too have enjoyed the hospitality of Muslim countries. Some of the biggest critics of Islam originate from Islamic countries. I would draw a distinction between polite society where business takes place and the beliefs that people share within their trusted social circles. Some people perform very differently behind the scenes. This is where education and indoctrination come in. What are the prevailing views within the family, social circles, and the wider society? In some Shia and Sunni societies children are raised to believe the West is the Great Satan and that Israel should be destroyed. They aren’t radical ideas in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and swaths of North Africa. Don’t pretend this isn’t the case. We oppose Sharia law here because many immigrants from Muslim countries came here to flee Sharia law. While white nationalist extremism is also troubling, it isn’t tacitly supported by the wider society, though right wing populists have stirred these demons. I also agree that colonial meddling has caused big backlashes throughout the Middle East, Africa, and Indonesia. That’s true, but don’t downplay Muslim versus Muslim hatred and terror, and don’t pin it on the West. The Saudis, UAE, Kuwaities, and Iranians benefitted from selling oil to the West. The Saudis exploit Palestinian labour. How many of these countries welcomed Syrian refugees? I also want to add that I believe most members of all the major religions and most agnostics and atheists are reasonable, decent people just trying to get ahead in life. Same goes for people of different ethnicities. People are people. Not all beliefs, however, are of equal value in terms of personal health and the health and cohesion of the wider society. Some narratives are healthier than others. I say this from a purely humanist, scientific perspective.1 point

Maybe you should reread what he wrote, he said that the Quran does have passages in it that promotes mistreatment of non Muslims...would that be a yes or no.....also can scripture in the Quran be changed or modernized , is that permitted...yes or no, if it can not be brought into the 21 st century how can it evolve, does it not tie the moderates hands behind their backs does it not... And yet when a ex Muslim living in Europe made a drawing of Mohamad he had death threats placed upon his life, from all over Europe, North America, from around the globe , normally these people are what we considered moderate Muslims live in these areas..….Next the day of 9/11 happened US new agencies were broadcasting from many Muslim countries , who were not suffering or disgusted by the attack, nor where they condemning the attack, instead they were celebrating the terrorist act, and calling them martyrs....It is hard to see them as the peaceful Muslims you want us to believe most are.....I have also visited a lot of Muslim countries, including some that are consider moderate or civilized such as turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and they are not so much friendly , but you draw a cartoon of Mohamad here or condemn Islam you run the risk of losing your life or arrested to languish in a Turkish prison.......... Yes i'm sure there are a lot of peaceful, and very moderate Muslims... but do you think they are the majority, or minority ?1 point

I find it quite sad when people paint this brush stroke. Like your comment which suggests that all Muslims follow the exact same ideals and interpretation of what Islam is. This is over 1 billion people. You've taken a caricature of a Muslim and have applied it to over a billion people. It's wrong. Some of the most welcoming countries I have traveled through have been Muslim countries and I'm not Muslim. From Turkey, to Iran, to Indonesia. I had nothing but positive experiences there. Resist the trap of repeating these stereotypes and thinking like the extremists do. Extremists live in a black and white world and they're unable to acknowledge that every person is unique.1 point

As much of a news junkie as I am I can't recall a single terrorist incident in the west which was conducted by someone who was a victim of Western bombing, or whose family was a victim of western bombing or military intervention or anything else. The people who flew aircraft into the WTC were mostly Saudis, the generous and privileged sons of a wealthy country. A country which is bombing the hell out of fellow Muslims in Yemen now. Wonder how many innocents they've killed so far.1 point

My concern is that white supremacist terrorists succeed in mass murders because police and security forces don't pay any attention to them. All funding for terrorism is directed at 'Islamic' radicals, with fairly successful prevention. But police don't prevent white supremacist terrorist attacks because they don't look for white supremacists. They only look for 'Islamic' terrorists.1 point

These terms are just clubs to use as a cudgel to shit down debate. They use these terms when you disagree with them. Usually the left lacks facts.1 point
