  1. What you have said about NRO is clearly and simply false by any reasonable criteria. It’s just nonsense. Try reading it sometime and get back to me. With these inane outbursts, Trump makes his own agenda more difficult to carry out. That’s OK for online nonentities like us - not so good for the leader of the free world.

  2. And why are we critical of people seeking the same? You and me aren't special because we were born here. We just won the geographic lottery. Sure we can't accept everyone but people should be let in based on merit, not the poverty of the country they came from.

  3. That is typical of the liberal left wing fake and phony media. They like to take things said out of context. Trump did not really call Haitians shitty people. Trump called Haiti a shit hole. The lieberal media are full of a bunch of bigots and intolerant snowflakes themselves. The lieberals apparently never talk about how the democratic party had black slaves themselves and many democrats were members of the KKK. Democratic Senator Robert Byrd apparently was a KKK member himself. The pro liberal/democrat Clinton Obama crowd here should do a little more research on the people they love to cherish for a change. They might finally learn something for a change that not all conservative/republicans are all that bad. Even democrats have shit in their closets. Just saying.

  4. At the time most Irish and others immigrated to North America there was a huge demand for labourers. You didn't have to be able to read or write. You just needed a strong back and a willingness to work. That is simply not the case today. Low-skilled jobs are fading away and are going to fade even more rapidly in the coming years as automation takes over. GM says it will have a self-driving taxi on the roads next year. How long till all the driving jobs are gone? The workers we need now are knowledge workers, highly skilled in technology and communication. We also need some lower tech people like tradesmen, of course, but even our tradesmen are far, far more technologically advanced than Haitians. There is no point in pretending that people from Haiti, which has a very low literacy rate, where most schools are actually operated by foreign charities, where the UN is basically running the place because the locals can't, and where the technological level is... low, are going to make really good immigrants to Canada compared to the Irish of today. The skin colour is irrelevant to that. The most economically successful immigrants to Canada are Europeans, according to the government itself. That too has nothing to do with skin colour and everything to do with education and skills - not to mention a similar cultural background.

  5. Sure, except it was also built on lots of racism, bigotry, imperialism, colonization, slavery, subjugation, wars, etc., etc.

  8. Haitains are not even native to Haiti. The natives are loooooooong gone. When I use Google Earth, the things I note re: shit holes are: litter and graffiti...Haiti has tons of both and nobody bothers cleaning-up...ever. I don't want THAT attitude on my street in my town. That you do is insane. Let's import folks from a successful Caribbean island if you want them as part of Canada's rich tapestry of diversity equals strength BS.

  9. Nobody can force a country to adopt western style democracy because that's not how they think. It would require most of the population to change their thinking which they are not capable or willing to do. You're beating a dead horse.

  10. Of course, nobody is moving to Haiti...least of all Boges. Any idea WHY? That's right...you came to the same conclusion as Trump.

  12. Meh, I dislike Trump as much as the next guy but you are being pretty biased here. It's true that any legislative achievements are ultimately the result of work in congress, but it's also true that most of what has been done would not have been done under a Democrat president. And while Trump might not be able to read any word longer than a few letters, that doesn't mean that he didn't set deregulation as a priority at many agencies and/or appoint heads of these agencies that are for deregulation (of course, much of the deregulation is bad deregulation - but that doesn't stop it from being listed as an achievement if one is ideologically opposed to regulation). As for the tax cut bill... the criticism of it is mostly hypocritical BS. If you look at it, all it did was make America's taxes a lot more like Canada's. Reduced corporate rate (it's still higher than in Canada), reduced how much people can deduct local/state taxes (they can't deduct them at all in Canada), reduced how much mortgage interest can be deducted from taxes (it can't be deducted at all in Canada), reduced federal income tax rates (they are still higher, and more progressive, than in Canada), and increased the standard deduction so that far fewer people need to bother with the complexities of the tax code. So how exactly is this some evil bill that harms main street? No, the tax bill is one of the very few things done at the federal level since Trump came into office that's actually a significant step in the right direction.

  13. Haiti is a shithole. I mean figuratively, not that there is shit on the walls in all their houses. Although, some perhaps. If I recall recent history, they had a devastating earthquake 8 years ago and there was an outpouring of support from people all over the world. Everyone was giving money for Haiti. You go to the grocery store, sign on the till says "$2 for Haiti". Written in pen, no less. They collected uncounted millions (literally uncounted, not figuratively). Government and NGO collected and sent personnel and crates of supplies to Haiti. Military planes as well, to provide security. Security against what? Criminals. Some Haitians were evacuated, allowed to live in the US. They were given visas allowing them to live in the US for a fixed period, perhaps it was 6 years(?). When these recently expired (meaning they must return to Haiti), America under president Trump did not renew them. That is why we saw them fleeing the US, crossing the border into Quebec by the thousands and detained. As far as I know they are now living in fancy country clubs in Eastern Ontario. Overall point- Despite all the money, people and supplies, and 8 years later Haiti has STILL not rebuilt their country from the earthquake damage. Haitians are lazy. And those that got away into America and now in Canada don't want to go back for that very reason- Haiti is a shithole.

  14. Where is Trump causing chaos and destruction? Trump is working on trying to get the world back into order and stability. Go Trump go is right. Trump is the man. Works for me.

  15. Bull chit. That rag is just as liberal as NYTimes, CNN, MSNBC and that taxpaying CBC outfit are. Who are you trying to kid here? I have no problem with what Trump said because he said it as it is. Trump tells the truth which liberals would rather skirt around the truth. They would say something politically correct like Haiti has some poverty and economic problems and that is why things are bad in Haiti. That kind of response will never get anything resolved. Their leaders need to be insulted. Maybe by insulting the leaders of Haiti that may be what is needed to get them off their corrupt asses and get them to finally start to do something about that hell hole called Haiti. Haiti received billions of dollars in aid from all over the world after their earthquake. Where the hell did all the money go? So, why is Haiti still considered a shit hole? Can you answer that question other than that it is corrupt and a shit hole?

  16. Haiti had it's moment of glory at one point and was no doubt probably working just fine until the blacks decided to rebel against their french masters and just about massacred them all. Ever since then, Haiti has become a chit hole.

  18. If those countries aren't shit holes...why leave? Climate too agreeable? Food too delicious and plentiful? Trump is correct...the media just doesn't like it. (Moving to Haiti soon, I gather, Omni? Didn't think so.)

  20. Ginsy, I few thoughts, as my oldest son is a year away from university and having to think about the same decisions. There are a number of jobs (engineering, accounting, medical jobs, the trades) that require specialized knowledge and training. If these jobs interest you university / college are about getting the knowledge needed for the specific job (and typically to pass a certification exam). Following this process tends to lead most easily to a good job right out of university / college, as long as you pick a career path where there are job openings (eg. not a teacher in Ontario). The alternative is taking a more general program in university / college. Typically the path a job after school is not nearly as well defined, and will require more effort (and probably time) on your part to find or work your way into a "good" job. One of the biggest challenges you will face is standing out from the very large pool of candidates with similar qualifications. In both cases your success (in any career) will depend ultimately on your effort, ability to think and creativity. Now 20 odd years, and 5 very different jobs after graduation, I've seen many different paths people have taken to successful and / or rewarding work, and what program they took in university / college seems to play a pretty minor part in that, it's what they've done after words that makes the difference. However it's also clear to me that taking one of the social studies programs or less specific career less focused programs, in no way makes people better thinkers, more open or gives them any other better "qualities". If you are interested in learning you can do that as easily inside or outside of university.
