Since the 17 conspiring terrorirsts were caught, Canada has decided to put it's head in the sand as far as terrorism in Canada is concerned. It happens to everyone else, but since it hasn't really actually HAPPENED here yet, we'll put our head in the sand for now on.

Well here's a big story that I feel the media is actively attempting to bury.

There were letter bombs in Ontario, 1 person injured. Another bomb was sent, but the smell of fuel stopped the person from opening it.

Now the person was arrested and his car detinated today by police by the lakeshore:

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories

A 37 year old man was arrested and polic say this is not 'politically motivated'.

WELL GEE, WHO WAS ARRESTED? WHAT'S THE STORY HERE? WHAT IS THE CBC TRYING TO HIDE??? OH YES, HERE'S WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO HIDE:

"Adel Arnaout, 37, a landed immigrant from Lebanon, in connection with a series of letter bombs sent to people around Toronto and Guelph. They caught him at a gas station, and found several explosive devices in his car. "

Now I QUESTION this AGAIN, What the hell is this person doing in Canada, how is he here, why is he here, and WHY ARE WE CONTINUELLY ALLOWING WORLD TRASH IN OUR COUNTRY!?? AND *WHY* DOES THE MEDIA IN CANADA HAVE TO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HIDE WHO HE IS?

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---

What are you talking about? I've been listening to this story all day from the CBC and the Toronto Star starting a few days ago.

And FYI, the police have ruled out terrorism, and religious or political motivation. Did you go out of the way to omit this observation?

So becuase the police says it, you believe it's true?? Lol!

There is an arab in Canada. He has the knowledge of making letter bombs.

He had 3 explosive devices in his car that had a faily large boom when it was detenated.. could have taken out a dozen people easily.

And you think that a landed immigrant from an arab country, wiring bombs is not a terrorist threat? He certain *is* a terrorist threat. He is someone that should not be in Canada?

Don't you agree? Living on welfare in a basement apartment .

Where does it say he's living on welfare in a basement apartment?

As for believing what the police said: "There's nothing at all to suggest political or ideological motivation," said the spokesman Mark Pugash. "There's something that ties together the three recipients and the suspect." Link

Sounds as if they know what they're talking about since there's something that ties them all together. I can't imagine why they would lie about that and/or make it up.

Good point...and just because the police say he's an immigrant Arab, you actually believe it's true?

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

One must ask, if this is a random attack, what his motivation is beyond politics or religion?

People don't usually do this stuff for shits and giggles.

"There's something that ties together the three recipients and the suspect." That doesn't sound as if it were random.

Perhaps. We will see. I think it's best to wait for more details on this before rushing to conclusions?

It doesn't seem to me that the CBC is hiding anything. I took a quick look at their site and found three other articles about people being charged with crimes or going to court for criminal charges. In none of them do they list the ethnicity or citizenship of the accused.

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Maybe the CBC just doesn't report these things when they are irrelevant to the story?

As for this being an act of terrorism... that seems unlikely. The whole point of terrorism is to make it public, so why wasn't there a public claim of responsibility after the first bomb went off? It seems likely that the police know what they are talking about when they say there is a connection since I doubt they would jeopardize their case by randomly speculating in public. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to wait to see what comes out of this before jumping to conclusions.

And well played gc1765! mikedavid00 if you distrust the police so much, how do you know that this even happened? Maybe the police just got bored and shut down those highways to go joy riding. Just because they said there was a bomb doesn't mean there was one! You can't just pick and choose what to believe based on what you want to prove. You have to take all of the facts as they are. Sorry.

I've been watching the news on CTV....including the short live telecast following the convoy of police cars. They've explained about the bomb letters and that it seemed the victims were not random targets (that's what the police said), and that it may be personal. This is not a terrorist issue on the same scale as the terrorists we expect. This might just be simle wacko case...or revenge....but as geoffrey said, I think it is best to wait and see until proper investigation is done.

Now...whether he is motivated by religious ideology, or whatever...one thing is very clear while I was watching the news: the name of the suspect was not given at all. Now, that is what I'm questioning.

In this regard, I would agree with Mike that somehow this suspect seems to be either being given some sort of preferential treatment by not having his identity divulged (if compared to other suspects of other serious crimes). At first I suspected that the culprit might be a minor that's why they didn't give out his name.

Why is CTV Newsnet keeping his name out of news reporting?

Wasn't it at CBC where reporters and staff were given a memo about 5 or 6 years ago to stop using the terms "terrorism", "terrorist attacks", etc?

But still we don't know enough yet to say either way. So....

His name is published right here.

There is no secret about this one ... man wants to off 3 people for personal reasons ... and he uses explosives instead of a gun, etc.

The fact that he is Lebanese and used explosives to commit crimes does not automatically make him a terrorist.

Give your head a shake, mikedavid. Kinda went off on a rant waaaay out there ...

Hey ... has anybody else heard that the "17" were possibly led on by police ... agents provocateurs?

I heard that said as if it was tru, but I haven't heard any more ... ?

I think Mike may have been referring to himself.

Was this terrorism? Generally terrorism is considered to involve high-profile acts of violence that are intended to frighten the public at large (hence the name). This seems to have been a campaign of stealth against specific targets.

My but you have a trusting rose coloured attitude towards a foreign (to you) police force. We in Canada have seen the best and worst of our cops, and rule 1 is always to underwhelm us with detail and make sure they cover their asses, although I can't say I blame them for that one with our get out of jail free justice system.

At any rate, I don't think the media is hiding this story, but downplaying it and giving it little time, meanwhile, Diana is is getting a full court press even though she's still dead.

This is the first I've heard of this story and I watched a couple of newsbroadcasts at supper time.

I just saw it. Rather dramatic, shutting the Gardiner down to detonate the explosives.

The guy must have said who he was after and why, but the one intended victim didn't seem to know why he would be targeted.

Maybe he butted in on the guy in line at the grocery store during the full moooooonnnn ... or something like that ... ;)

Married the girl he'd been stalking ...

... installed his toilet wrong and it flushed counterclockwise so when Al went through the looking glass he ended up in Portugal instead of China :P

I think it's those kind of "reasons" ... the kind the police are quite sure are not terrorism because they are just friggen loonie .. perhaps.

The first letter bomb recipient's name was Abdelmagid Radi. Does that sound like the likely first-strike target of an Al Quaeda terrorist to you guys? Sounds more like a criminal idiot settling some sort of a score.

At any rate even if this guy were a terrorist, this incident would only prove the point that terrorism is a POLICE issue, not a military one. Terrorists are criminals, not soldiers. You don't prevent terrorist attacks with military invasion. You do it with good, old-fashioned cop-on-the-beat legwork, as with the now infamous "17".

Speaking of which...

Hey ... has anybody else heard that the "17" were possibly led on by police ... agents provocateurs?

I heard that said as if it was tru, but I haven't heard any more ... ?

Those guys were set up like bowling pins. Their only "connection to terrorism" was a local Islamic cleric *posing* as an Al Quaeda operative and giving them all enough rope to hang themselves with.

The "17" were actually nothing but a bunch of stupid post-adolescent males talking big without the balls or the brains to pull off anything by themselves. They were stupid kids. Stupid enough to show up at mosque in combat fatigues. Stupid enough to stand in the parking lot after service handing out Al Quaeda website crap they'd printed. Stupid enough to place a large fertilizer order delivered to their residential address in Mississauga. Real terrorists don't draw attention to themselves like that.

Yeah, they had a plan to blow up the Toronto Stock Exchange and behead the PM. I got a plan too. I'm gonna do it with Angelina Jolie on the main float of the Santa Claus Parade. Anybody want to calculate my odds of success? About the same as these rubes ever even being *considered* by a genuine Al Quaeda operative, let alone pulling off a successful attack.

If anything, the fact that it was the other muslims at their mosque who first called the cops about these guys and it was a local Islamic cleric who posed as their Al Quaeda connection and encouraged them to incriminate themselves so fully is proof positive that the majority of Muslims in Toronto are decent, law-abiding, responsible citizens. It was also proof that that policework and not military invasion stops terrorist attacks before they occur.

But was that the way it was presented to us at the time? Oh no. It was a "wake-up call" of course. It was proof that terrorists walk among us and it's time to stop denying it. It was a justification of the Afghan/Iraq wars. It was reason to shut down immigration of "these people" into our precious land. It was any number of wild and hysterical things.

Are we seeing that here? No. Be assured if there were any -- ANY -- terrorist activity here, we'd be getting more of the same. But we're not.

Here's a helpful history of some letter-bomb attacks in Canada for the "why do we let THESE PEOPLE into our country" folks:

July 15, 2002: Andrija Tramsek, a.k.a. Andy Davis, is found guilty of sending two letter bombs in September 2000.

Nov. 7, 2000: Raymond Neal Best pleads guilty to mailing letter bombs to an Edmonton television station and Calgary's police chief in 1999.

March 1997: Warrants are executed for David Nathan Barbarash, a former member of the Animal Liberation Front and former researcher for the Toronto Humane Society, and Darren Todd Thurston in connection with 24 parcels mailed between May and December, 1995.

December 1996: Wayne Greavette is killed by a package bomb delivered to his Puslinch Township home south of Guelph. The case remains unsolved.

Terrorists commite terrorism because they want people to be terrorized. As people being terrorized, they usually adopt some activist reaction against those real threats and imaginary threats. Then people act against their imaginary enemies, those innocent people usually also fall into undue reactions to retaliate their offenders. Then the chain reaction on its way, the terrorists win.

So, if we don't want terrorists win, we just don't let ourself be terrored by them, and do everything to avoid others to be terrorized to do any undue reaction to innocents.

In fact, All terrorists in the world can not kill more people than those killed by car accidents. I guess there are no one who wants a ban of car, am I right?

Your first claim was that the media was hiding the story. Which was proven untrue.

Your next response was to refute what was reported.

Sounds like we're heading into another 911/Iraq discussion again.
