"A CBC pilot program that portrays altar boys as druggies and the Catholic communion host as "munchable snack food, possible poker chips and a repository for drops of LSD" has sparked a complaint accusing the public broadcaster of blasphemy."

One would assume that Christianity being the largest religion in Canada with Catholics being the largest denomination, that the CBC would afford at least the same amount of respect as it did for their production relating to 'the little Mosque on the prairie'.

What they did there was hire a consultant to ensure no Muslim would be offended.

It is unbelievable the lack of respect the CBC shows towards Christianity and Catholics, which is an important part and component of our Canadian culture.

Maybe they're trying to stick to reality this time. . . . oops, sorry misread, thought they had the priests talking about the Altar boys as "munchable snack food."

The best thing that offended people can do is refuse to watch this. All the publicity for Little Mosque drove the ratings.

What the CBC is doing is unacceptable.

They are using basically tax payers money to hit on, what can be viewed as Canada's national mainstream religion.

No doubt CBC has also damaged the reputation of many respectable trailer parks, with their 'Trailer Park Boys' series and seems to have the same intentions with 'Altar Boy Gang'.

When using tax payer money, CBC must produce unbiased productions, suitable for general viewing, as they are NOT independent film producers.

Tell that to the CBC, it's about time the gov't pulled the plug.

I thought it was funny!!!

I can recall some naughty altarboys.

get a grip!

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

It's not surprising, coming from the CBC.

What we Christians should do is write the Minister of Broadcasting and demand that Christians get equal time on this station....since we are also paying for it. That is of course, if we don't mind keeping that kind of company. On second thought, let's just ask the minister to axe the CBC.

Kudos to the CBC for showing edgy, interesting content.

It sounds like some of the complainers here would like to have a special clause in the Broadcasting Act that says TV stations should clear their choices with the Pope first before going to air.

Well, here's an update: there's no free-pass or special kid-gloves for religions.

I agree, as long as it includes ALL religions....

First, Trailer Park Boys is not a CBC series. It's on Showcase. Second, there is no such thing as a respectable trailer park. All of them are a social and aesthetic blight on the landscape. Even god has clearly demonstrated his contempt for them by making sure they never miss a good tornado.

Uh, yes there is a free pass. Little Mosque got the kid glove treatment, they hired a Muslim to make sure Muslims wouldn't be offended at the show. You were kidding, right?

Ill bet he wasn't.

Little Mosque is a comedy about Muslims on the prairies.

Altar Boys is about something a little more ...er....dark.

You need both a left and a right wing to fly the plane. Thank God for the CBC. Keep up the good work people!

Do give examples of right wing political personalities and shows on the CBC.

Two of each would be dandy.

Rex Murphy and Don Cherry.

Venture and Stanley Cup Playoffs. (There wasn't much else to choose from since hockey is all that's on, but an ultra-corporate survival-of-the-fittest battle among multi-millionaires isn't exactly socialist.)

Really? Don Cherry is a political commentator?

Murphy ran twice as a Liberal, as opposed to once as a Conservative. He worked for Liberal Premier Clyde Wells. Seems like the closest thing to a centrist you are going to find.

If those are your two right wing *political* commentators you are just proving the point about left wing bias among political commentators on the CBC.

You are thinking of Dragon's Den, not Venture. Neither show espouses political views.

Hockey isn't political. It doesn't espouse political views

Compare those with The Hour. Yet again, you have proven the point about the CBCs political views.

Trailer Park Boys series is supported by the CBC which has busness dealings with Alliance Atlantis, owners of Showcase relating to Canadian talent.

There are all kinds of respectable trailer parks along with the seedy trailer parks just like all other forms of accommodation.

Your million dollar house might be worth next to nothing, when the media finds out, your next door neighbours are mafia related.

I'll throw in a third, Preston Manning.

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.
