My oh my, you got that totally backwards.

Real women like strong men. So please cut off your "man bun".

Because a lot of women base their vote on how good looking the candidate is or how charming and not on his competency.

As a general rule of thumb history suggests that people can either be charming and good looking and popular or they can be really great leaders. It's rare to find one who's both. Women tend to go for the former

Many women do dislike them, but many others still vote for political reality over any  emotional objections.   Younger and more left leaning women are likely to reject Trump and Poilievre for the pre-existing gender war against real or perceived "misogyny".

Nevertheless, Trump actually increased his share of the female vote in the U.S., going from 44% in 2016 to 46% in 2024.   Trump's voter support among white women actually exceeded 50% in the last presidential election.

Behaviourally, Trump and Poilievre invoke strong negative "feelings" for women at the conscious and subconscious level, amplified in group think/settings.   It takes a strong women to support candidates despite peer female and sisterhood revulsion.

When times get tight and people have trouble putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their head, women suddenly come around to right wing politicians a lot more.

Make no mistake:

Many women simply hate Trump and Poilievre.

These women will never vote for any party associated with either man.

Women lie, pay attention to what they do instead.

Looking the part impresses both male and female voters. Small, ‘homely-looking’ candidates don’t tend to make it to the finish line in any democracy’s most important race.

Poilievre is good-looking and appears younger than his age.

There is a huge amount of land between charming and good looking small and homely :)  Harper was never charming, in fact I remember when he first went into the house after being elected and the opposition accused him of seducing the voters and he said essentially "That's absolutely ridiculous, my wife is in the gallery today and can confirm that I've never been able to seduce anyone in my entire life" :)

The problem is good leaders have a tough time being elected, and charming and good looking leaders have a tough time governing once elected.  Trudeau was always very charming but he was a complete disaster as a leader. Carney was very charming but isn't doing that great so far either. The first Trudeau was very charming but was a disaster for Canada.

There have been leaders that were fairly charming and also good at their job. But they are relatively rare. You're always better off as a rule with a leader you may not be that charming but is a solid performer

But the remark he made about himself was funny. Harper was tall, good-looking and more charming than he claimed to be. Anybody who can tell a self-mocking joke and play the piano has some charm.

Quote

“(My father) is an accountant, as are both my brothers. I decided to become an economist because I didn’t have the personality to be an accountant,” Harper told the 2002 Ottawa press gallery dinner

At the funeral of former finance minister Jim Flaherty, attendees saw a glimpse of the old Harper.

“Jim, as fiercely partisan as he was, was also genuinely liked and respected by his opponents, liked by his enemies,” Harper said in his remarks. “That’s … something I envy; I can’t even get my friends to like me.”

Pierre Trudeau made modern Canada (with some help from Lester Pearson). He also made mistakes but, for good or ill, we live in his country. No prime minister since has been remotely as consequential.

He wasn't remotely charming and absolutely nobody anywhere ever referred to him as such. It was a constant criticism. Remember when he shook his kid's hand going to school? Made the papers for weeks. Remember when he showed up at the debates trying to 'dress down' and be more 'relatable' and layton asked him "where's your plan? Is it under your sweater vest?"

The only time he was ever seen as even human is when he sung the beetles song that one time and his popularity soared because people saw him as human for the first time,

Lets not try to rewrite history here

He did well because he delivered.  Best response to the Great Recession with other countries openly seeking canada's advice, constantly delivered what he said he would with very few exceptions (notibly income trusts early on but not much more than that),  and his ideas were extremely effective  But he did NOT run great campaigns and he was NOT charismatic

At the time i coined the phrase "if you don't have a charismatic man you better have a charismatic plan", Meaning if your guy isn't attractive then the story he's selling voters better be

Pierre Trudeau made the modern debt and plunged the country into a decade of stagnation and in affordability, now with some help from his son who is doubled down on that and made it worse.

It's like saying Hitler made modern germany. Not untrue but that's not a good thing

Some women will not vote for candidates like Trump or Poilievre. For some women -typically older women, these male candidates are toxic.

In Canada, it is a major problem for candidates.

Years ago, heck centuries ago, we Canadians voted across various identity lines: Protestants voted for a Catholic.

Our first federal Roman Catholic prime minister was chosen in 1892 - an anglophone. We have had many since.

I know tons of them, you just don't realize it because being a lefty you can't tell the difference between a man and a woman anyway :)

Nope. There's actually been a reasonable number of studies and polls on this. Not all women of course, but it tends to be that way. There was a time when men did pull that they considered the quality of a candidate's handshake as being a critical Factor as well but in this day and age you see less handshaking.

Sorry, I know you hate it when the science proves you're 100% wrong as usual but what can I do? I tend to base my opinions on facts and I make no apologies for it to the likes of you :)

Trump? Isn't he the one who said, "Quiet, quiet, Piggy." when a female reporter asked him about Epstein?

He’s a thug and a pig. Most women realize that instantly.

To be called Piggy by an infant decomposing into Jabba the Hutt in front of everyone's eyes is a funny as it is disgusting.
