Trump: "It's an honor to have the prime minister of Canada, Mark Carney, who I have made very popular. He's an extremely popular prime minister and I'm very honored to do it because I like him."

It's funny, too, because he will praise a leader graciously while also slamming every policy they believe in.

Trump is really good at this. People who don't like him only see a bozo... and he can be. I don't think he is a genius playing 5 day chess or anything, but the guy has some incredible strengths and people who see him as an enemy refuse to give him any credit for it.

And TBH, being seen as a bozo has its advantages. Being underestimated can work in one's favour in a lot of ways.

If you thought that your adversary was brilliant then you'd go to great lengths to ensure that you weren't getting fleeced, but if a bozo wants to make a deal with you, it's easy to assume that you're just winning with no requirement of maximal effort.

Even better for his counterparts, the media and people in their countries, who think the same way about trump, will also assume that they're winning without paying too close attention.

It was hilarious to see NATO leaders, one after the other, step to the podium and say that they were increasing military spending to 5% of the GDP "'coz they din't twust Twumpy, nyah" 😂.

At the end of the day, he got them all to do his bidding, and they all got to look like they were sticking their thumb in his eye. Trump lets them have the victory lap at his expense - and he scored a major win for America. Thats the trade-off. Pretty good if you ask me. Maybe not 3D chess but it still gets added to the list of victories, and that's what he came for.

No-no. Carnage the destroyer is a WEF Marxist globalist imbecile and that is what is pathetic. Trump is not Canada's problem. It is Carnage that is the problem and the imbeciles like ex-flyboy that keeps voting tor the lieberal ilk. Canada cannot get any better as long as Carnage is the PM dictator of Canada.

Stop blaming Trump for what is allowed to keep going on in Canada. While Trump is trying to make America great again, our dear globalist leader in Ottawa is trying to make Canada more woke, more broke and become bankrupt. Pathetic indeed. ☹️

He's a very seasoned businessman who's only filed for business bankruptcy 6 times....and casino's to boot.  Think about that...

In only one of many positions that dealt with vast finances Carney was chair of a company managing $660B in assets so help me understand 'not in the same league'?

Your idolizing of Trump and obliged playbook of slamming Carney lacks no substance at all, but is filled with hypocrisy.  Rooting for one guy and slamming the guy he's trying to screw makes little sense... don't you think.

I'll assume you haven't negotiated a lot in your life or career.  You do not agree to a deal if it's not in your best interests regardless of any so-called timeframes.  The longer it goes without a deal only tells me that a deal acceptable to Canada isn't on the table.  So be it.... wait until one is.

More Carney worship blather.

I'll assume you've never negotiated a deal ever.

The Carney's been on the losing end since Trump asked one of his aids "who the eff's that"?

Carney is going to have to show something soon....he is under a lot of clocks, voters and tax payers want to some results....results he promised during the election...Canada does not hold the cards here, the US does, ......and our company's are losing jobs and good paying pay checks...If i was ford I'd be in Europe, trying to get European auto/ truck  companies to set up shop in Ontario...in fact I'd be setting up massive trade missions reset our trading partners or at least try...To much in fighting to have a team Canada approach...

Your forgetting that tax payers money and jobs are on the table...The longer we wait the more jobs and money is lost...So there is a clock on the table....

This is all true but at the end of the day no matter what he's got to start delivering at home. He can spin his deals with trump as much as he likes or claim he's starting 'major projects'  (that were already announced) but the economy is in the tank and employment is poor and costs are high, and unless people start seeing real change nothing he says will matter.

He said it because it's fact of the investments private business and persons have in the US, and probably not a great revelation to you that this kind of talk strokes Trumps' ultra-inflated ego.

It was little Pierre who latched onto the soundbite that has zero relevance but he thought you'd like.

No worship at all.  Just facts, which you're oblivious to because of your devotion to the angry right rhetoric.

As a matter of fact I had a rather successful career negotiating.  Rule one was to not agree to a deal if there wasn't a benefit to the business.

You have nothing... absolutely nothing other than what your hero's Poilievre and Trump say.  Weak...

Obviously results have to come at some point, but I'll give it more than 6 months.  Why don't you look up what's been done with new measures and policies that hopefully lay the foundations to getting the country back on track. The only infighting I see is with Smith and Eby who are playing politics, and I'm not forgetting anything. I understand where we are right now.

It's not a fact it is a best guess...at best he threw that out there like is was true....when it was a lie....

To be honest i don't really pay the left that much attention, not really worth any of my time, Down town Fredericton is full of lefties protesting something new almost every week...mostly same crowd every week...it was they do to fill in their lives....Funny though none of them have been shot for spewing their hate...I am concerned about where this country is headed under the liberals....but afraid of the leftist on the streets...come on....

Sure you will give him what ever time he wants....but the conservatives did not campaign on he was the man to deal with trump and he will have a deal in a few months...and NO sign of a deal, we have heard nothing, and no real progress on any thing else...other than His investment of 500 bil over 5 years here in Canada, and the trillion over the next 5 years in the states...which you seem to think he meant something else....but did not really correct himself did he...

I don't think you or carney know the PBO office has publicly said we are on the brink if Canada does not get a grip on spending ...promising to spend over 500 bil, not counting the 150 bil more on defense throws us off the cliff...

It's also not a revelation that that kind of talk causes business to flee Canada. If the Prime Minister says he's expecting business to invest elsewhere what do you think kind of message that sends to investors?

And for all this appeasement what have we got? Nothing good

So he doesn't have a deal with a guy who changes his mind and mood daily...why so surprised. Why do you think it's a failure to not agree to all of Trump's wants...which I'll assume is why this is dragging on. I don't think Carney's pushing back for less, do you?

Why haven't you figured out that Carney didn't offer anything?  He was referring to private investment and suggested it could get to $1T to stroke Trump's ego.  He offered nothing.

Not sure what you were watching but sure seemed to me that Trump has a lot of respect for Carney

First, you clearly know nothing whatsoever about Donald Trump. He never shows respect for people in weak positions who stand up to him. He loathes them and just wants to crush them like bugs for his own vainglorious ego.

Second, respect? He mocked transgenders even though Carney has a transgender child. He said Carney was only popular because Trump made him popular.

Third, remember the big tough man in the election?

“Donald Trump thinks he can weaken us with his plan to divide and conquer. Pierre Poilievre’s plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered. Because a person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.”

Yeah, okay buddy! But all you've done since then is flatter, praise, and suck up to the man. He's done everything but get down on his knees and blow the guy in public.

I think Trump wants Carney to deal with a lot of issues that the Liberals don't want to deal with. Like Chinese influence and espionage. Like organized crime and money laundering for international drug rings and terrorist groups. Like hordes of unscreened Muslims and Indians pouring into Canada and showing up at the  US border. Like freeing critical earth mining from the heavy regulatory burden that makes it unprofitable.

And Carney wants no part of ANY of that.

I struggle to see how Carney is bowing to him when he hasn't agreed to a deal yet.  Logically you'd have to assume the US has put proposals forward and logically you'd have to assume we've said 'no thanks, but what about this' over and over again.

How do you think your hero would have handled it so far?

I think your leap into China, crime, drugs and immigration isn't the reason a deal hasn't been agreed to. It's far more likely that the economics of trade in various sectors is the reason.  Not following how critical materials are unprofitable if the government recently announced two (SK and BC) that have private sector mining company proponents.

But he did agree. He's agreed to take the automotive industry off the table for example so America gets its way. He's agreed to remove all of our tariffs so that american companies don't suffer. He's agreed to more military spending. He's agreed to more money being spent on the border. And he's agreed to all of this while trump keeps raising tariffs.

We have LOTS of agreements with the us, NONE of them good for canada.  And yet you defend the guy.

I don't have a hero. You couldn't pay me enough to go and watch a politician speak. Nor could you have anytime in the last fifty years. All I'm doing is holding Carney to his own boasting during the election.

And you act like not getting a deal is nothing. We're subject to heavy American tariffs, and month by month, auto manufacturing is drifting south. Trump is quite content with this. The question is, why are you?
