Even the great majority of immigrants want less immigration. Two thirds felt it should be less than 300k. Forty percent felt it should be less than 100k a year.

Useless article... unless you're interested in useless polls?

How would and what qualifies newcomers to Canada to understand all provinces needs and comment with any validity of where immigration numbers should be?  Useless article....

Useless post.

Canadians overwhelmingly want immigration curbed and controlled. We do not want to foot the bill for these "newcomers" anymore. We've seen the results. These "newcomers" are not here to "be Canadian". They have admitted as much on many occasions.

Wakey wakey Canadians.

Useless Nationalist commenting on a useless article.  Both useless.... with an obviously inability to even comment on the crux of the article.  Useless....very fitting.

Except... Muslim birth rates in Canada are almost 20% lower than the worldwide rate... another sign that religion will always bow to secular liberalism.  So you can bring in Muslims but in a few generations they'll be mushy Canadian Muslims... as unproductive and malleable as the rest of us.

I would say the anti-immigration sentiment (and it is a sentiment, it's a "feelings don't care about facts" thing ... driven by chud-produced YouTube slop) is driven by anti-Muslim and now anti-Indian feelings.  That's fine, they don't like them and I can't make them like them.

But this "no immigration" thing requires a deep conversation beyond the low politics, in terms of why ?  how ?  what would we expect to happen ?

Some claim that immigration is not helpful to the economy, beyond the obvious downward pressure on certain groups.  The "Why ?" answer to them is to boost the wealth of average Canadians.

But it's hard to see a straight line between 'no immigration' and that result'.

Canada's fertility rate is nowhere near close to the national replacement rate of 2.5

Of course Canada needs immigration.

However, uncontrolled immigration with no regard to  infrastructure to support it is a recipe for disaster.

Disaster in terms of cultural clash, discrimination, politics ..... and most especially when the immigrants are  most visible.

With no abundance of large cities, the immigrants are concentrated - disaster exacerbated.

Likely, Canadians aren't against immigration - far from it - but they want a reasoned, controlled approach with due regards to economics and the capacity of the country to absorb it and by extension profit from it.

Going forward what is required are practical solutions - definitely not idealists................ definitely NOT idealists!!

Populations are pi$$ed ....... and they have justification!

1. Most of the world is in the same boat, so it's not an 'us' problem.
2. Well, it's like saying "of course" we need "growth".   I absolutely believe that it's maybe THE cornerstone of our prosperity but there is a possibility for us to change how we grow.  And so i don't know about saying "of course".
3. 4.  5. The infrastructure problem is tangentially related to immigration.  We had growth before immigration started to spike and governments were not much better at planning for growth in the past.  When the economy is perceived as 'good' then these things are less of a problem.
6. Here's the thing: some people are clearly doing VERY WELL due to immigration.  Who are they ?  Why are they silent on this ?
7. 8.  Populations are pi$$ed and they want more money, end of story.  Fix that and you fix everything.  Why are people working harder for less ?  Or are they ?  Who is angry ?  Why ?

Forum anger jockeys are not the proper sample space for the discussion either, nor am I for that point...

Although... maybe I AM a good example:

30 years ago I started a consulting career that pushed me into the category of top earners.   Chretien's government opened up tech contracting from the world over... I was introduced to a co-worker newly arrived from RED CHINA 😮

6 months later, my business was finished and I had to take a year to train and reinvent myself.

There was zero controversy, no internet to complain, no media coverage.  My job was just... eliminated.

I knew that economics was driving Canadian businesses to lobby the government for this as my hourly charges were likely 4X what my replacements made.

So yeah, maybe I am a good example to listen to.  i doubt most here had to go through what I did.

Entirely useful given the narrative from the pro-mass-immigration people is that the only ones who want immigration greatly cut are white supremacists.

Totally useless article.  What qualifies a newcomer to Canada to be an authority of immigration levels by province and in turn country?  You can find something better than that, can't you...

You've pined your whole post on the fact there are people who are racist...as the pillar of anti immigration stance...you forget to acknowledge the facts....posted by our own government that immigration levels play a large role in supply and demand of housing....that they play a huge role in stressing out existing infra structure like hospitals, road net works, and everything else. while the government has increased numbers , they have not kept up with all those expenditure to keep up with infra structure...

I think grouping all those that want to reduce immigration into the feelings group.... is dishonest at best...This levels are not healthy for the country, unless we are willing to pay the difference in higher taxes....then we will see how much interest in immigration there truly is...

I think the conversation we need to have is allowing the country to take a break, get caught up with everything that belongs with bringing in new people...I mean as we stand right now how attractive is Canada as a primary choice of countries to live in for new comers....with the prices of homes, food, etc...

Are we really getting more wealthy by all this immigration....Boomers are, the newest generation are still living with mom and dad.. or renting.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

1. Yes that's valid... but as I said people are benefiting from this too.  The government not taking population growth into account seems mind-numbingly stupid.  And saying what drives this is not the same as saying there's no rationale for it.  Indeed there is.

2. What % of posts I see on social media puts forward an economic case vs a picture of a guy in a turban with a line through it ?   Your idea that immigrants make the economy worse... you didn't provide a cite here either, instead you just assume the audience knows it's true right ?

3.  Why ?

4. At least you admit someone is benefitting...

We're going back in time... consider every kid not had due to birth control as an infant mortality...

Consider every mid-level manager not hired due to AI as killed in the Crusades...

Few kids, no middle managers...  I figure we're at about 1150 AD right now.

Don't worry eyeball, you're good.

I'm assuming you know what the  national fertility rate for replacement is defined as.

There's too many people in the world, as evidenced by the increasing lack of sustainability everywhere you look, that's all we need to know.

On the other hand we could all live in cardboard boxes and eat out of dumpsters.

u have any idea the number of people that are doing just that in the U.S. ........... boggles the mind - richest country on the planet.

I guess they're a type of immigrant but I would assume we would still let refugees in, at some level, even if we had no economic immigrants.
