They’re pretending to be Canadians abroad to absolve themselves of the guilt and consequences that being American is bringing these days.

“There are almost no places in this world where you can parachute in, say you’re from Canada and not be welcomed,” he said. “The same cannot be said for Americans. The solution is to fix your own house, not to come to ours and put our clothes on.”

He does. He just doesn't pretend it's going all to hell like some dubious patriots claim.
He's also pointing out SOME Americans have discovered their President has made their country a laughing stock AGAIN.

Says the person with 50 posts in the topic about an American being shot in America by other Americans.

American's were wearing Canadian patches to travel Europe back in the 80's.  Right or wrong they've known as arrogant whereas Canadian's were always polite. Still that way. Not sure I'd be travelling too far right now if I was an American, and sure would be checking for 'stuff' in my food if I was.

Even in the 1970s. oke was back then don't look for the maple leaf on the backpack, the real Canadians wore it on their turban.

This one act annoys Canucks more than anything else in the world. It’s alright, you’re all going to enjoy being an Americans one day.

It doesn't and hasn't annoyed Canadian's at all.  We've always found it more amusing that American's thought and still think they should be like Canadian's when travelling the world so they don't have to check for cooks and waiters spitting in their food.  And no, being part of what's become the US shit hole is not going to happen.

Look, Trump didn’t just go after Canada for no reason. It’s been in American strategic interests for the last 200 years for the entire continent to fly one banner. I’m enjoying this purgatory situation Canada finds itself in. Abandoned by the previous empires and too disunited to stand alone against the might of the greatest empire to ever span the globe.

No, I find it sad and pathetic.

Why? If you had not been livid enough after reading about it, you would never have been bothered by it at all.

So, you think so lowly of the world that you fear they would do something to people's food just because they are Americans?

That would say far more about how bad they are...

Enjoy what you want to enjoy but if I was you I'd be a hell of a lot more worried about what's going on in my own country than playing Canadian troll here. You might really like the fact that it's your cult leader hell bent on authoritarianism right now, but you're sure as hell not going to like the next guy who tells the mindless conservatives of how it will be this time around. As ya'll like to say... God bless Murica

Canada belongs to Muricah. You all just haven’t come to terms with this fact. Canada was a British ploy to counter American expansion in North America. That premise no longer holds. We are the successor to the British empire. Canada is just another unincorporated territory of the North American empire. And there is absolutely nothing Canada can do about it. Donald J Trump is your defacto Emperor.

Sorry Pax but your empire appears that it will barely hold out longer than the USSR's. Here's hoping it will make it to 2028

No, you don’t understand, Canada truly belongs to America. Whether or not there is an American civil war is irrelevant. Canada can not exist period. The geography does not support it, the political environment does not support it, the economic situation does not support a unified Canada. Canada is splitting up and there is only one Country that CAN absorb it. Independence is not a feasible option due to geography alone.

Yes indeed, and I haven't thought of that in ages... I remember it being a thing in the 80s and 90s but not so much after that. On any number of occasions I've given US colleagues Canadian Flag patches for their backpacks prior to them going on deployment leave... (LTA for Canadians).

On a couple of occasions I scored some good cigars because of it.

A couple fine Canadian patches for a couple good cigars....  that's win/win.  I remembered that with this thread and guessing there's still more than a few Americans right now travelling overseas saying EH and trying to be Canadian...

Of course... the same folks crying about Americans saying they are Canadian think a man calling himself a woman really is one.

Nobody's crying. It was fact and kind of funny. Brilliant comment on the man/woman thing though.

That view is not compatible with modern liberal democracy and national self-determination. It’s at least a hundred years out of date. If your country embarks on such a path your own freedoms will suffer.

Actually, because of the demographic collapse we are headed back into that old world view. Globalism is supported by the assumption that the population demographic support global trade of goods and services. There's a problem with that, after 45, most people do not consume in the tradition sense that encourages global trade. And without global trade, there is no globalism. The incentive structure no longer exist for this "modern liberal democracy and national self-determination". We are headed back to a dog eat dog world. I don't revel in this, simply to bring awareness. The Russian invasion of Ukraine was started precisely because of this demographic problem and unfortunately there will be more to come. Between NATO members of all things. The era of great power competition is alrleady here. It's time for Canada to choose sides.
