So, when you found out it was false, why didn't you admit that here? Why did you lie and said you did already when you have not? Why are you avoiding sharing what your source was when you thought it was true?

Because it's been retracted. That means that unless I took a screenshot, it's gone. But Maher's reference shows that the report existed.

You have been very sure the shooter was a leftist. How come you're so sure he's not a groyper?

What's to explain? There was a false report, as I verified with the Bill Maher clip. I have no idea where I read it.

What ever the motive actually turns out to be the part that still concerns me is the apparent lack of bipartisan condemnation and the way it breaks down based on political persuasion.  

The idea that he (or anyone else) either deserves to be executed because of their opinion or that somehow the opinion itself makes the shooters motive "understandable" should be abhorrent to any rational person. Even in a politically charged environment (like this forum for instance) I would have expected the take away to be (near) universal condemnation. The absence of it now leads me to wonder what comes next...  is it a sense of horror across the board and the resolve to do better, or does it serve as a catalyst for future reprisals in equal and opposite manner? The former takes courage, conviction and effort, the latter appeals to base human instinct and is relatively easy to conjure with minimal effort (memes, slogans, inflamed them vs us rhetoric etc).

Political and religious violence has a self sustaining aspect to it, once ignited the flame continues to burn as long as fuel is present.... I can't help but wonder if this event will be seen (in hind sight) as a source of ignition or a turning point.

All IMO of course... guess we'll see. 

 

 

I agree and what you said was absolutely true. But in the interests of being fair it is worth noting that there are some on the left who are very strongly coming out and making a very dedicated pitch to the effect that this is intolerable and it should not be tolerated by any party and it's a problem for both parties and people need to get a handle on this because it's the death of democracy

Bernie Sanders of all people came out with an impassioned plea along those very lines that did not try and hide anything as far as political responsibilities. He named a number of incidents about half of which were against republicans and half were against democrats and even had the balls to bring up the incident where the shooter killed a republican claiming specifically that he was doing so based on what Bernie said. So no picking sides there obviously
