Well in that case just defend Canada with what we've got. I mean if we could accomplish anything like maybe ridge, Juno Beach, telephone communications then you should be able to defend Canada with the number of people that are in the military and the gear on hand. It's easy to say it can't be done, things never get done that way.

Or you can be real.

Thats what they said about Vimy or juno, it can't be done it has been tried over and over again....and somehow it did happen....

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Sure, it is much easier for Canadians to bury their sons and daughters than pay for them to have modern equipment...Not sure why that bothers you so much that finally we are taking our military seriously,

Problem is we're not taking it seriously and you're just not able to see that.

The correct answer is to set realistic goals that can be achieved without destroying our economy.

If you do anything else one of two things happens. You destroy the economy and then everybody slashes the military because it's the least painful thing to cut politically, or you promise to do something and then it never happens.

We have seen this a trillion times in our history and not just with the military but with climate change and other things as well. I don't know how you don't see this coming.

Here's a prediction, of the five percent 1.5 or so is allowed to be 'infrastructure' right?  How much you want to bet that portion gets front loaded.  in other words we add that to what we're spending on the military now before any additional funds get spent on the actual military. so we build roads we were ALREADY going to build and fix bridges and so on. All of which was going to happen anyway and has nothing to do with actual military.

that''ll be what they do for the most part for the first 4 to 8 years (depending how long carney is in)  The military will get a tiny bit of an improvement but nothing like what you're thinking. but the public will believe we've MASSIVELY increased spending.  But new gear and better stuff will be slow to show up. Oh they'll make announcements about how we're just about to put in an order for this or that but that's it.   We'll send more money to ukrane and call it military spending which is fine if you're into that but it doesn't help our boys.

And at the end of it we'll still be burying our kids and you'll still be wondering why people don't care about the military.

Canada needs to increase its spending on the Canadian Forces fast and properly to build up some strength.  Russia, China, N. Korea, and Iran are serious threats.  Russia is a serious threat to Europe right now and is increasing its military strength quickly.  This is a threat to Canada.   A threat to one ally is a threat to all.  The west is facing a possible WW3 and needs to do everything to reduce that threat.  The way to do that is to become very strong to discourage any hostile attacks.

‘We have an enormous geopolitical challenge on our hands,’ he said. ‘And that is first of all Russia, which is reconstituting itself at a pace and a speed unparalleled in recent history.

‘They are now producing three times as much ammunition in three months as the whole of NATO is doing in a year.’

Mr Rutte stated that ‘this is unsustainable’ but added: ‘The Russians are working together with the North Koreans, with the Chinese and Iranians, the mullahs, in fighting this unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.

‘So here, the Indo-Pacific and your Atlantic are getting more and more interconnected. We know that China has its eye on Taiwan.’

Carneys announcements are the closest the military has been to getting additional funding, in the last 40 years....during that time the government has promised to make drastic changes, and in the end failed....the military has been used as a cash cow to fund other things....Do i hope things change, yes i do, I'm hopeful more than i've ever been in the last 40 years....

I've already told you that procurement and the military will not be able to spend any large influxes of money unless the remove the miles of red tape place upon procurement as a whole on both side PWSG and military, thats going to take years to fix and implement...then there is the governmental side that needs to be changed, removal of red tape designed to stop spending...

Military is already planning to spending on existing and new infra structure like in the 3 northern bases that were promised in everyone's campaign, bases have already planed spending to improve infrastructure, like CFB trentons latest upgrades...Military will not be able to control what the government classifies as military spending to upgrade infra structure elsewhere...and 1.5 percent spread over the nation is not all that much 30 to 35 bil...

No one is talking about destroying the economy, just you this will take place over the next 10 years, and we may never get to 3.5 % spent on the military, you make it sound like we have a long history of living up to our agreements...and with every change of government these plans will change smaller or bigger....like i said before the world does not depend on Canada, it's reputation is not very good...and we don't keep our word...Which over the long run i'm not sure why your upset...

Canada has reached the point where they need to do Major spending on our military, you may not like it but that is going to happen, The US demands it,our allieds demand it for the most part Canadians demand it, we are about to spend 90 bil over the next 40 years on F-35, gods know what we are going to spend on new frigates but it will be eye watering....looking at new subs with a price tag of over 150 bil....all taken out over 10 -20 years out of the military budget...and we have not wrecked any economy....shit our frigates cost 7 plus bil a piece to keep our economy going...while the British built an aircraft carrier for that price....

our military is teetering on collapsing...it has cut capability after capability off just to survive, Navy is having problems crewing the latest new ships, and are really struggling to man the new supply ship...Canadians don't want a job in the military, because there is no future in it....and when it does collapse we are going to see just what a huge hole is left behind....and at what cost Canadians will pay for not having a military...

Canadians don't deserve a military and the people that serve in it...it is disappointing to sign up to serve only to later find out Canadians for the most part don't give a rats ass about you...i can see the disdain in your words, "how dare they ask for anything"....and it is not just you, i've heard the same words the same tone from thousands of Canadians while i served....hence my signature block...

Well like I said, we'll see if you're right.
