What I'd be watching for on Tuesday - first meeting between Prime Minister Carney and President Trump:

1. How PM Carney will be greeted when he arrives. Remember Trudeau was kept waiting for several minutes outside, in his car.
2. The first handshake.
3. If Vance is present, like in the Zelenski press conference meeting - will he do the offensive and be the pitbull of Trump, as he did with Zelenski?
4. Body language.
5. Achievement.

Your thoughts?

A lot of pundits are putting too much stock on the fact that Trump had nice things to say about Carney.  Nothing wrong with that.

But.....

Let's not be too quick to assume that complimentary statements............... aren't followed by daggers in the end.
For all we know - Trump could be "priming" Carney before he starts cutting him up.

Or, things might be good between them right now, but if Carney doesn't play ball with Trump - how will Trump react?
Look what happened to Zelensky in that famous press conference which shocked the world!

Btw....

It wasn't too long ago, when we were swooning with appreciation over nice things that were said.
It made us forget that they'd kept Trudeau waiting in his car for many minutes.

Roll back to 2017:

President Donald Trump:
Prime Minister Trudeau, on behalf of all Americans, I thank you for being with us today. It is my honour to host such a great friend, neighbour and ally at the White House, a very special place.

This year, Canada celebrates the 150th year of Confederation. For Americans, this is one of the many milestones in our friendship and we look forward — very much forward, I must say — to many more to come.

Prime Minister, I pledge to work with you in pursuit of our many shared interests. This includes a stronger trading relationship between the United States and Canada. It includes safe, efficient and responsible cross-border travel and migration. And it includes close partnership on domestic and international security.

America is deeply fortunate to have a neighbour like Canada. We have before us the opportunity to build even more bridges — bridges of co-operation and bridges of commerce.
Both of us are committed to bringing greater prosperity and opportunity to our people.

Mr. Prime Minister, I look forward to working closely with you to build upon our very historic friendship. There are incredible possibilities for us to pursue, Canada and the United States together.

In public it will be smiles and hugs and kisses as long as carney is still kissing his butt

In private he's going to tell Connie what he wants to have happen and if Kearney gives any back talk whatsoever then the friendship is going to come to a sudden halt. To the degree with which he back talks trump will begin to speak less and less favorably of him.

So what it really is a question of is how bad is Kearney going to sell out Canada. If the two of them finish the meeting with nothing but huge smiles and handshakes basically he's turned over the keys if it is somewhat cordial but not as super friendly as it could be then there's some hope that he stood up at least a little bit. If he Sort of half smiles and just gets in the hell out of the door then he stood up for Canada at least a little bit

I'm expecting lots of smiles and warm regards and handshakes and possibly even a hug. Kearney is going to do what he can to make it look like he's handling the situation.

These might be telling signs after their closed door meeting,  when they come before the cameras.:

The smiles. The stiffness. The scowl.

If both smile broadly with warmth .............. all went well.
If there is stiffness on Carney...................uh-oh.
If there is a big scowl on Trump.............brace yourself.

I have absolutely no doubt that Trump will look Carney in the eye and say:
"The reason that you are here is because of me."

If Carney foolishly answers, "I am here because of the Canadian people." then Carney will have lost the game.

After the meeting? How they will look?

====

By all accounts, Trump is a decent guy, a gracious host.

Carney apparently is pompous, self-centred - the smartest guy in the room.

Betsy, you probably read men's faces better than I do. Let's see.

I don't know much about Carney for me to judge whether he's pompous or not.

Anyway - as I've read the criticisms against Trump over the years - wouldn't Trump fall under the same category?

The difference would be.................. Trump, is also an entertainer.

Oh lol - if Carney gets snippety with Trump the way he did with the press - it might be game over!

Awful lot of ifs. I wouldn't put money on any predictions. This is just a meet and greet. "Don't expect any white smoke."

Of course i don't think anyone expects any kind of deal to be done at this meeting. But there will be clues as to the relationship. The format he's recieved in, and leaves in, and how they hold the pressers, etc

What if Carney comes out laughing his ass off?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

You think Carney is going to waste time for just a meet and greet?

You think they're going to come out of the meeting with trade deals in hand?

These meetings happen all the time with new leaders. Until Trump presidents would visit Canada first.

Am I expecting a resolution?  No. Of course not.

But I wouldn't say it's just a "meet and greet."  I don't think we can really say it's a "social call."

Though they might not actually do negotiations..........there would be a discussion on trade.

They will likely look to begin to set the framework

And for trump this will be relationship building. For him relationships are important, and by that I mean people should bow down to him in a way that he finds acceptable and he should respect what they have to say which should mirror fairly closely with he has to say

So the question will be did trump have a fairly favorable impression if not perfect of Kearney or does he hate him or does he love him? If he loves him that's bad for us. If he hates him that might not be so great either.

And hopefully they'll talk about some of the next steps like who's going to represent and when are they going to move things forward and what's the time frame they would like to see this resolved in

Danielle Smith is going to livestream an announcement about Alberta's future within Canada this afternoon.

There is a petition that went around generating signatures to call for a referendum on separation, and a bill was introduced to make it easier for Alberta to separate.

No doubt Trump will be calling these 3 things major victories in his plan for a 51st-state, as well as his push to get Carney elected, thereby alienating Albertans. And he's right about all of it. Alberta wouldn't be going anywhere if the CPC won, but Alberta and Canada are completely at odds now.

I will be really surprised if the topic of Alberta doesn't come up.

If CNN gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

If you missed something on the Cultist Narrative Network, don't worry, the dolt horde here will make sure everyone hears it.

I have no doubt that trump would not be entirely opposed to the idea of acquiring provinces one by one until he has the complete set

I don't know that the rest of America is as excited about it though. We'll have to see

What a pile of bullshite! When you try to extort someone you have to have something to hold over them. She's got nothing! She's not going to call a referendum. Or maybe she should, then resign when it gets shot down.

You're starting to foam at the mouth. Calm down

I thought you'd make these same statements about Quebec and yet they're every bit as true or untrue depending on your point of view

People in the east hate Alberta. They always have they always will. They tend to dislike the west in general. Always have, probably always will

And Trudeau spent 10 years abusing the hell out of Alberta. And when the trump tariffs came up the very first words out of the federal government's mouths were well we might have to sacrifice Alberta's oil

Sorry, but this is a normal reaction to that kind of crap

Stop crying, Barqy.

You got to vote, you got to support the most divisive party in Canada's history, now we get to see how it plays out.

I can only hope that Trump will pull a Zelensky on Corney. Those globalists like Corney do need a rude awakening and Trump is just the man and leader to do so. Trump does not like the globalists because Trump knows that they are the ones that tried to make his life miserable and have him jailed before Trump became the President. If Corney wants to play the globalist game with Trump, the Corney will lose. Give Corney chit  big time Trump. 😇

LMAO!

No doubt Trump is as ignorant about what First Nations will have to say about this as any other chud or Albertan who thinks Alberta might be separating or joining the US anytime soon.

Between natives, King Charles, the Supreme Court, other provinces and ordinary Albertans and Canadians Smith doesn't stand a chance.

Let's hope after Smith's attempt to push the issue of separation falls spectacularly flat on its face it will cause Quebec to pause and reconsider the feasibility of its separation. It should certainly underscore how poorly thought out the whole idea is.

As time passes I'm becoming more encouraged by how effectively the right wing is hoisting itself on its own petards and souring public perceptions about the conservative brand in general.

You can feel people collectively stepping on the brakes and see it happening in other elections in places where incumbent "lefties" are hanging onto power. Australia being the latest.
