We see from this week where Dofo implemented a meager 25% Export levy on 3 states with Democrat governors. 45/47 lost his shit.

Imagine if Danielle Smith or Scott Mo grow a pear and implement export levies on oil and potash. This trade war will end quite quickly.

Just like with oil. If the US could be independent of imports they would already. 

Sure the US produces their own potash, but without Canadian imports their food supply would be compromised. 

This is actually Canada's "Trump Card". 

Cut off raw mineral exports and the US really do suffer. This is why Trump keeps talking about annexing Canada. That way he's not beholden to another country's imports. But calling Canada a "State" is insulting. In reality if Canada was given their due in the US electoral system, the Republicans would never hold majority status again. 

The US was brought into WW2 because they cut off Japan's oil supply, causing an attack. Would the US militarily intervene if Canada stopped importing their natural resources?

When it's pretty clear that Trump's helter skelter trade war is mostly just a distraction from his highly UNPOPULAR government destruction campaign and the massive failure of his deportation promises.

Look, that figure does not mean what you think it does.

Consider the trade balance with Canada for example. The US buys more from Canada than Canada buys from the US. The reason for that is the US buys tons and tons of energy.

If you take away the energy we actually buy more things from America than America buys from us. That's right we are a bigger customer to you than you are of ours what's energy is removed.

Are you saying you want us to stop selling you energy? Are you saying that us selling you the energy you need to keep your lights on and your car is driving is somehow a bad thing? Oh and by the way we sell you the oil at a severe discount versus world prices, you actually get about 20% off the going rate for oil when you buy from Canada

If you go to the grocery store and buy a week's worth of groceries you have a trade deficit with the grocery store. You have bought more from them than they have bought from you. But you have groceries to feed your family. You make money elsewhere at your job.

Would you attack the grocery store because you have a trade deficit with them as a result? For god's sake use your brain. There is nothing wrong with a trade deficit with another country or even in general as long as you are getting what you want and what you need to make your life better and that is exactly what is happening. The US buys a lot of raw materials and energy and uses it to power and provide for their economy.  If the us did not run trade deficits they would be broke.

I want independence. Energy independence, and goods independence. Imports should be a luxury, not a necessity. That little stunt your guy threatenend to pull with turning off electricity freaked me out. I was stunned to learn that multiple states are getting electricity from you guys. That's unacceptable for this voter.

I want complete independence. Sometimes Trump says the same thing, but then he talks about tarriffs, and loans and all that shit, and then we're left wondering what in the f*ck is going on. I kind of like the idea of foreign investment, but what I really want is tax dollars staying here paying down the debt, and building up the country. Is that unrealistic? Probably, but I don't care.
