Equal how?

There is no such thing as 100% equality. We have differing social norms among many other things. Women have title 9 to give them opportunities because they are not physically equal to men and can't compete with them in sports...

I don't support a mandatory draft of women because we don't need it for as long as we have able-bodied men, men are more suited to warfare from a social norms state to a physical state, and I also don't support making women fight while men can for the same reasons I insist and societal norms insist that women and children are saved first...

What percentage of our military is engaged in front line combat during a time of warfare, and what percentage serves as logistical and other forms of support?

And in combat, why can’t a woman serve 100% equally to any man as a medic, sniper, or many other roles? There are women who run marathons; weight lifters, and many others who are far more physically fit and capable than you have ever been.

It was about 25% last I checked, give or take.

Women can't serve 100% equally because women are not 100% equal to men in physical strength.

Do you not understand the physical differences between men and women?

Yeah, women run marathons... but are judged in different categories than men, because men win them all. Same with weight lifters, etc...

It is no different in combat roles. Standards are reduced for females and on average females all perform much worse physically compared to men.

Draft aside, imagine if all able bodied 18 year olds had minimum 2 years of mandatory national gaurd duty. A lot of men and women would personally benefit from this in terms of down to earth competencies.

Then, again, back to my comment before:

"Not sure this is an issue about women wanting to be drafted. They are free to volunteer if they want to.

This is more about the political left wanting to push this onto all women. "

And AGAIN if women want equality then get drafted. What is it? Cafeteria equality?

It is not women pushing for this. And AGAIN, equality does not mean 100% or nothing. Women are not physically equal to men... nor is our society disposed to women in the military in general or combat.

I don't care who is pushing this specifically but women are pushing equality but only the things they like. More equivocation. Funny how people can excuse away all kinds of things isnt it?

Again, equality is not some 100% or nothing proposition.

First of all why not? Women are demanding equality. If you can't do what I can do then we arent equal. We are different but we aren't equal.

It's respecting the differences and making reasonable accommodations where possible for the weaknesses of each gender.

Men have their inherent weaknesses, too.  Physical strength is not what wins every situation in life.

Unfortunately there are women claiming that they are no different than men and as a result demand equality. I have found those demands seem to really fade when things like the draft come up.

True.

But I think when most of us ask for equality, what we are asking for is respect and personal dignity.

That may be but Id suggest many more women expect much more than just that. Respect had to be earned not demanded.

I guess you know more women like that than I do.

Agreed.

Which is why so many women don't like being physically beaten into submission by men.

Women have been drafted and served with distinction in combat roles in the Israeli Defense Forces since at least the 1960's.

This is 21st century and as the poster forgot to mention, would apply only to a case of national-level draft. In this case, yes it's a valid question. Citizens have to defend their nation or it may cease to exist. Is there a place in this situation for exclusivity by any one of the essential characteristics, is absolutely a valid question.

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

I would oppose such a policy if i were voting on this topic. A few things.. the need to expand the pool of potential draftees is at present unnecessary. If the time came.. we have enough able bodied males who could be pressed into service. Women, if they are so inclined, could enlist and would provide value. Physical strength does not win every battle. Sometimes, you need intellect...

So do you

Do you though?

Not sure what that has to do with what I said but I guess sometimes people just need to say what they think they need to say. BTW any man who hits a woman isn't actually a man.

This is a moot point for me now - I'm old. 🤣

I wouldn't want to be on the frontlines, no.  Maybe supportive in another capacity.

The majority of my friends feel the same, but again, we're all old.

I do have one female friend who served in Afghanistan. She was shot there - in the wrist.  She has no regrets about her service and I would say, from her stories, she held her own and deserves just as much respect as any of the men.
