There is one thing that I have not heard Trump’s overcaffeinated defenders claim: He didn’t do it.
I haven’t heard one Republican official argue that Trump did not sleep with a porn star four months after his wife Melania gave birth to their son Barron; that he did not have Daniels paid to keep quiet about the tryst; that he did not cause his company’s books to be falsified to hide the payment; or that he did not buy Daniels’s silence because he worried her story would hurt his chances of winning the election.

Rather, the GOP argument is that Trump shouldn’t have been prosecuted or convicted for these actions. So much for the erstwhile party of law and order.

Republicans must need throat lozenges after a weekend of yelling “election interference” at the top of their lungs. I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in the handful of instant polls that have attempted to gauge the political impact of Trump’s new status as a felon. The point of the trial was accountability, not electability.

But I do hope that Democrats, independents and non-MAGA conservatives will finally snap out of their funk and realize that the aura of inevitability that Trump has been trying to project is nothing but a smoke-and-mirrors illusion.

He lost in 2020 to Biden, although he’s too insecure to admit it. He lost in court, although the system is designed to give every advantage to the defendant. And it is we, the voters — not any judge or any jurors — who have the power to make sure he loses again in November.  

Ironic that RepubliCONS shout “election interference” when that's exactly what Trump's crimes were meant to accomplish by keeping the voters IGNORANT of his sexual deviancy.

It's not actually sexual deviancy to sleep with women. Lots of people do it. The fact that you don't sleep with women doesn't make those who do deviants.

If what Trump did was election interference than all politicians need to be in jail.

They constantly try to suppress things using various means that don't put them in a good light.

Didn't Stormy attempt to extort Trump wanting money to keep her mouth shut.

We don't even know if she actually did have sex with Trump, it is essentially he said/ she said. If it isn't true is he still election interfering by stopping a lying whore from interfering with the election?

If they are committing crimes to cover it up, then yes, they should be in jail. 

But that's not usually the case.

She just tried to publish her story. That was of no interest to Trump until the Access Hollywood take came out.

No evidence of Ms. Daniels attempt to extort Trump was presented in court.  If she had attempted to extort him, she could be criminally prosecuted.

well there was a bit. It walks very close to a line. She admitted that she was demanding more money for the story rights because the election was happening and she knew she only had so much time. That is very much admitting that she was demanding money and was threatening to release the story Because she knew it would hurt him if she did and he would pay to avoid that. I mean, that's the whole premise here right?

Well that very easily can be extortion. If I threaten to do something unless you give me money and promise if you do give me money that I won't do it then that's extortion.

So there is room there for a charge unless she got immunity or something. It's not super black and white but it is definitely walking a thin line
