What's The Point Of Having Yet ANOTHER "Left Vs. Right Vs. Right Vs. Left" Sounding Board, Anyway...?

This entire site is fast becoming a disappointment to me. Instead of reasoned, well thought-out back & forth debate which I had initially expected, all I can see is relentless & senseless back-biting & an exchange of insults between those who might be still hopeful, & a cadre of belligerent trolls who think that continual reference to "bots" & highlighting typographical errors in one's posting elevates them to some exalted place of intellectual superiority.

I hate to admit it, but some push-back on my part has been simply irresistible, as I foolishly allow myself on occasion to get sucked down into thes nonsense. And that's not a good thing.

Maybe it'd be best if I simply were to leave this castle of cards here, & let CdnFox & all the rest of his "running dogs" alongside him have at it in this, their own little sandbox of a world...they all deserve nothing more than one another, after-all.

If you think someone is contributing nothing of value worth discussing then stop responding to them, or put them on your ignore list. Your likely problem is they say something you very much disagree with and can't help challenging it.  But arguing with some of these guys is like arguing with a 911 truther. Nothing you say is going to have any impact.

Groot, there's another apt saying, too: "...Arguing with a troll is like arguing with a pig: everyone gets dirty -- but the pig loves it".

You're correct, of course. But how do I put them on any personal "ignore list"...?

Click on your name at the top right hand corner of the page. A dropdown list should have 'ignored users' on it. Mine does. But then, I actually have ignored users. If it's not there click on account settings. There's a box over on the right side of the screen with 'other settings'. Ignored users should be one of them.

Many thanks Groot -- I've done just exactly as you said on the first of what I'm sure will be several trolls that contribute nothing but needless distraction from genuine topic discussions here.

You should surf the Net more often.

I remember web forums back in the day. It literally was a baptism by fire.

No moderation it seemed, and you truly had to have a thick skin, or the trolls would pick you apart, until you left. Insults, curse words were the norm. None of this unnacceptable language deal.

This website pales compared to this.

Fighting it, gives it food. You're feeding the trolls, if you fight them.

Pay them no mind.

Some posters hate my way of posting, so have blocked me. I have blocked some posters, too.

Thats the beauty of freedom of speech. You're entitled to express yourself, just as am entitled not to give you an ounce of attention.

What makes you block people if I may ask ?

It takes a lot.

If I feel a person is only getting their rocks off trying to upset people, I won't take them very seriously at first.

If they constantly try to escalate, to the point they affect my ability to enjoy a website, I will block them.

I expect people to do the same with me.

Generally speaking if people are honest and polite i treat them honestly and politely.  Dishonest people tend to get treated very poorly.

I don't really agree with 'blocking' anyone - if you don't like their stuff skip over it. There's a lot of posters whom i just don't read other than to maybe skim the first lines.

But there's also those who are so ignorant and rediuclous they're just fun to mock.  :)

But like i said - put forward respectful ideas in an honest manner and get treated with respect and honesty, and in an unmoderated forum that's how it works

Eddy is almost certainly a bot.  His first posts contained language that was pretty common for a number of ai bots there for  a bit. Then he went away and now he's back and the language is slightly improved. I mean it can be hard to be sure but i'm about 90 percent sure eddy is a bot someone is trying to improve.

Basically.

Even in disagreement. I have polar opposite views politically at times, to my wife. She knows who she is, and won't back down from her views, and will respect yours, but you aren't about to tell her what to believe in.

I can't help but respect those who know what they stand for,  aren't afraid to stand for it, whether I agree with it or not.

I partially agree. I think there are those who start threads simply to troll and try to trigger others on purpose. Everything they do, is to get a rise out of you.

While I have blocked only a couple people, I will still respond to any poster wanting to engage in actual dialogue. Whether they are blocked or not.

Am pretty reasonable, which has frustrated many on the far leftist forum I used to be on.

They were frustrated because they tried to nudge me towards the left. I know what I stand for, and won't budge.

I love dialogue, but doesn't mean I can be bullied into changing my mind. The whole point to me, is hearing a viewpoint I didn't know, and considering it.

I have had my mind changed on many occasions after considering things and seeing my stance wasn't correct.

With that said, am naturally a peaceful person, so if someone tries to disturb that peace, it will make it harder for me to want to give them any air around me.

Kind of funny, I love controversial subjects politically, but love peace.

Sure - but i just skip over those too  as a rule.  I mean  = it's not hard when you see "trump agrees to have sex with russian toddler in a blood bath" that it's probably worth skipping that one till it hits about three pages and then just jump in to see how the fight's going :)

My theory is that everyone has SOMETHING worth listening to once in a while.  Even if it's a very long while.

Reminds me of a CEO of one of my suppliers who loves finding value in people. He speaks in quotables, but won't speak much.

But he made a great point which resonated with me.

To paraphrase, to essentially think of someone you absolutely can't stand. Hate, even.

The challenge is finding 3 things that they can do better than you.

There's value in everyone. A good leader will know how to find it.

I was talking about how my coffee almost burnt my tongue, and he comes up with this first thing o_O

LOL :)  Sounds like a wise man.

A semi wise man will say a broken clock is right twice a day. A more intelligent wise man will note that it's ALWAYS right - it depends on what part of the world you're in - whether the clock's answer is right or not depends on your perspective.

yes.. yet another one of thousands of internet forums that boil down to the same, pointless right vs. left, left vs. right conundrum. Folks seeking affirmation.. in short.

Well it's a politics forum. there's going to be a certain amount of position taking.  But - if there's a subject you'd like to discuss that isn't as polarizing then put it out there and lets discuss it.  A guy who doesn't start threads ever isn't really in a position to complain about the threads.

And @Michael Hardner  you're one of the worst so ...   :)

I would have to agree.
