'Free Palestine' written on gun in shooting at Lakewood Church, but motive a mystery: Sources

https://abcnews.go.com/US/lakewood-church-shooting-motive-unknown-pro-palestinian-message/story?id=107158963

"Free Palestine" was written on the gun belonging to a woman who opened fire at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.

However, a motive behind the Sunday afternoon shooting has not been determined. Sources said investigators are feverishly going through the social media and writings belonging to the suspect, who is believed to be Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, according to law enforcement sources.

This is how the left works.

If it had been someone who had a 'maga' hat we'd see nothing but how terrible right wing extremism is and how it lead to this attack

But they actually put 'Free Palestine" right on the gun and "Motive? We have no idea ,"

Yeash.

"Free Palestine, and Alahu Akbar" were shouted prior to the shooting, and "this is for all you infidels, death to America, I voted for Biden, motherf*****s!"

Local police is still uncertain as to what may have caused anyone to shoot at individuals.

NRA declined to comment, after being pressed about if now is a good time to ban handguns.

I don't even need to read the article to know the narratives anymore.

"The FBI has determined that the shooter has more than 5% Caucasian DNA, so this will be classified as a "White Extremist Terrorist Attack", but they're still trying to determine whether or not Trump is responsible. For the time being, let's just be honest: we know it's Trump's fault."

Can we talk about how flying 1,500 private jets to a global warming conference just saved planet? Is the story about how Trump's gonna proclaim himself Emperor of North and South America ready to go yet? No? Jesus Christ, what do we pay you people to do all day?"

Mental illness seems to have played a large role here:

Quote

The shooting at Houston's Lakewood Church over the weekend was a "completely preventable horror" as the woman who opened fire had a notable mental illness but was still allowed to own a gun, her mother-in-law said.

Mental health plays a major role in all mass shootings. or mass murders from any weapon  But - when the RIGHT says it or suggests that should be the focus for prevention rather than guns the left usually freaks out.

But that IS the answer. The gun didn't make her shoot. This is a mental health issue. I just wish the left could get that when it ISN'T someone they support and help tackle the problem along those lines.

I wouldn’t say there is one answer - rather, cut the risk factors all along the causal chain of events which would include psychiatric treatment and gun control. Any person with a history of violence and psychosis should not have access to guns. The vast majority of Americans support background checks. On the mental health side, North America got rid of way too many of its psychiatric beds when anti-psychotic drugs appeared. At the very least we should have a more pro-active, and if necessary paternalistic, approach to young, paranoid schizophrenic men who are becoming violent. They are definitely at high risk. Which wouldn’t have helped here. Women commit these crimes much less frequently.

I wouldn’t say there is one answer -

there is pretty much one answer.  Gun control is utterly pointless.  There are tonnes of other equally effective tools that are used frequently around the world regularly but they don't get the media attention of a gun.   People kill with guns, with fire, knives, bombs, cars and trucks, planes, poison and a host of other things -  the ONE common denomonator in every case is "people".   In every case a person decided it was ok to kill other people and then that happened.

There's more than one way to address the person but if that isn't done above all else there's going to be a killing. And it doesn't matter what they have access to.

but of course - the left doesn't care.  They hate guns more than they want to solve the problem.

For the most part the only gun control laws that save lives are firearms training and safe storage when not in use.  That reduces accidents which is one of the biggest killers.  Most of the shootings are done by serious criminals who already ignore the laws. You can have a few to try to limit things a bit but the simple fact is there has never been a correlation between more gun control and less deaths.  In canada the more gun laws came out the worse crime got, and when some were cut back killings went down. Right now we're banning all pistols and "assault weapons" and gun crime as well as regular kllings are through the roof.

It's not the gun. It's the person.  That should be the focus.

There is very rarely one simple answer to a complex problem. If there was it would be solved. Gun control is one factor if it can be effectively implemented. I can see no reason for civilians to carry assault rifles. I also can’t see why any reasonable person would oppose rigorous background checks. The debate on what works in what country is an endless one. Don’t expect Western Europe to loosen its rules any time soon. Some believe Australia has made itself safer with stricter gun laws.

I wouldn’t want to see laxer laws in Canada.

The implementation can be challenging but the answer is simple and the problem isn't that complex.  And no - politics is far more important to many people than actual solutions.

Nope.  Or to be more accurate it's a very very tiny one that should be last on the menu.

There’s no reason for civilians to carry assault rifles.

And thanks for proving my point. There are many many reasons but of course - to those on the left the politics is vastly more important than truth, facts, science or genuine solutions.  Just 'guns r bad mkay?

And as i have noted before as a result nothing will get done and the problems will continue.

this is par for the course that law enforcement get the whole story before making knee jerk reactions.

what is the OP claiming? that law enforcement officials are woke leftists?

there can be chatter about mass killing motivations... like this thread! none of it has any credence until all of the evidence is in.

and poster is already known to be a hard core Zionist who believes the proper solution in the middle east is for Palestinians to be extracted from where they currently have lived their entire lives or butchered in place. women, children and all.

They don't need a MAGA hat to think it is a right wing extremist. I saw people immediately after the shooting in Kansas City thinking it was Taylor Swift hating Trump Supporters for the shooting.

This has nothing to do with law enforcement really.

They tend to follow their masters.  Remember when the rcmp in the atlantics got caught having taken a call from the PM to release information that they shouldn't for poltiical reasons? It happens. And of course the reporters are even worse.

AMMAAAAAZING how the lefties suddenly believe that when its one of theirs. If she'd been wearing a maga cap you'd be here telling us absolutely it was politically motivated and all trump's fault.

Riiiight.  So - when the facts and reason don't work, you just go straight to lies and ad hominem attacks.  Yeah - that makes you look real credible.

All shootings are right wing conservative  until proven otherwise - and then its a 'maybe' :)

thanks for clarifying... that the police are not being honest on the first day of the investigation.

i am "left" of you indeed. since there are stark comparisons in ideology in your world.

Thanks for clarifying that you previously believed the police never ever put political spin on their press releases :)

I wouldn't have a problem if the immediate answer to all national new shootings was we don't have all the details, lets not speculate, I don't have a problem with it. More often than not though it is a knee jerk reaction. I remember with the Gifford shooting immediately the media assumed it was a right wing tea partier and it was because Palin put out a pamphlet that put targets over congressional members pictures, they saw the name of the guy and looked him up and his name appeared in a Tea Party group. Unfortunately it was the wrong guy

Turned it was liberal who didn't like an answer she gave him when he asked her a question.

If a Muslim man goes into a place shouting "Allah Akbar" and shooting the place up its all, "well lets not make any hasty speculations"

Its so bad that everytime there is a shooting and there is a knee jerk reaction I am always like "wait a week and see where we end up" because lately 9 times out 10 they are completely wrong.

Exactly. they will publish that it was  a 'right wing lunatic' in 1 second if they think he might lean that way and it's 'police are searching for a motive' if it looks like they were on the left.
