CdnFox Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/cbc-radio-canada-layoffs-budget-1.7048530 So somehow despite receiving billions and having an advantage with advertisers they're still going over budget massively. And buried near the bottom - no plans to drop the bonuses for the top execs. Just defund them and be done with them already. They're beyond useless. 1 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
August1991 Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 Various Canadian banks have made similar reductions. People are retiring. Our problem is not unemployment; it is competent people to do the job. ====== Before, politicians spoke of "creating jobs". Now, they should speak of "creating competent people". Quote

The problem is management. Canadian dinosaur industries have evolved a management culture that is akin to how the royal family works and nothing better. The best management I have experienced works in medium-sized companies and medium sized startups that are no longer funded by investors. The worst thing about it is that no one has any experience of good management so they just think this is how things are run. Complete lack of imagination on our part Maybe it is not just management alone, but rather the entire Canadian culture and how it operates, that has been transformed into what it is today...and it is the culture that has made your so called management types into the people they are today, afraid of offending someone, and being remove from office, it is no longer about doing that little bit extra for the company and the country, it is all about what can i do for myself... so rather than make the tough calls, they try and appease everyone, every group, everything... This is one example people can not blame boomers for, this is totally in the hands of the younger generations...and it it is not going to get better, it is only going to get worst... We the people , and our culture are to blame for letting it get this far... 1 Quote We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

It sucked for much the same reason you mentioned. I much prefer the owner-operated company I've worked for these last 23 years. I kind of miss the days when I owned and operated one. I love my job. I'd love to see our government managed the same way - acting locally with a little nod to thinking globally. The conservatives believe in keeping more power with the provinces, and less federally. That means you could vote for whatever left wing freak show you wanted to provincially and keep that power closer to you and the feds only mind more 'federal' issues. We'd all be a lot better off. Quote

We the people , and our culture are to blame for letting it get this far... The pendulum always swings too far, and Canada's labour situation is a case study for the ages in that regard. We started off as a country where: children were involved in physical labour at very young ages (white kids - so don't start - lefties), every million dollars spent on a jobsite equalled at least 1 dead worker, there was no such thing as safety regulations, and injured workers didn't receive compensation workers were grossly underpaid to the point where a full-time job was still a near-poverty situation Now we have unions and: workers are overpaid to the point where our country can't compete children won't even put a dish in the dishwasher or they get triggered being forced to work at the top of a sketchy ladder or get fired has been replaced with being able to get your boss fired if they fail to play along with your delusions, or if they fail to pretend that they're guilty of taking part in systemic racism Our government is actively playing a role in making workplaces less productive, more subject to job action, and forcing businesses to hire useless people. This country is basically trying to fail. I learned something very important from a big company that didn't follow this: There are three group;s to serve: 1. The client 2. The team 3. The bosses. Your job as manager is to balance that and keep them happy. Easy right ? Small companies, the boss only has 2 to manage and the boss knows who is performing and who isn't. A good boss also learns that you can pay less if you treat people like human beings. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

About 35 people in our case and a lot of us as friends in a small town so that helps. Apparently we've just had our best year.
