The Real Trudeau

Seeing this is a thread about a dead man can you clarify your comment?

I had just assumed you came here to post "The liberal party is dead" or something to that effect so I was going to point out that the thread was almost 12 years old.. You fooled me.

By

Eric S. Margolis 8 October 2000

Check the math again, wiz.

Typical rightwing grief arguing semantics

What a great thread, thanks for digging that up. So the right was afraid of young Trudeau before he even ran for politics! That's hilarious.

As for Senior, say what you want. He is still considered the best prime-minister since 1968 by the highest percentage of Canadians (36%).

Harper came in second place as the best (16%) but he came in first place as the worst.

"Today, thanks to Trudeau's socialism, and Brian Mulroney's failure to uproot it, the dollar has sunk to a pathetic, humiliating $ .66 cents. "

and we all saw when the dollar rose to 75 cents, how our economey took a big hit

perhaps we can raise the dollar to 1.06 american, and watch the economey free fall! on the bright side, once alberta and ontairo are as poor as newfoundland, there'll be no more need for transfer payments

I echo my earlier comments, though note with some bemusement that it is Newfoundland that is now as rich as Alberta, and Ontario that is now poor.

Like father like son. Young trudeau will just pick up where his father left off. And what with the dead man comment, trying to start trouble, instead of debating if there will be any difference between the two. Nice try.

Lets say trudeau won , I have to wonder if he really would be the boss, like harper who is the boss. Or will he just be a puppet for the elite( former trudeauites) or will bob rae actually be calling the shots?

That's an excellent point actually. He doesn't seem to have the ideas or the background to actually run the country, but what about the internal politics ?

This just seems like a bad idea on several levels.

"Lets say trudeau won" indeed ---- as if there were a doubt about that.

I can hardly believe the fortunes of Canadian politics. Within a short period of time the political field of Canada has been blessed, first of all with the death of a man who is slated to posthumously receive the honor of being named the "best Canadian Ever" Jack Layton, ( "Better dead than we'd be Red") and next --- the volunteering of a great & seasoned liberal to the leadership of the great bastion of democracy, another Turdeau, sorry, Phideaux, sorry --- Trudeau. Canada can do nothing but exalt at the selflessness & kindness of a person of his stature offering to lead us out of the political wilderness to which PM Harper has dragged us.

I'm sure for example, that on of the first things he would do after the election (which he will of course win & restore the liberals to their great former honorable position in Canadian politics) will be to apologize to that other magnificent organisation, the United Nations. By apologizing to each of the 82 new African Nations that are now the mainstay of the UN, Trudeau will appease them for PM Harper's snubs & stinginess with the foreign aid the leaders of these countries so sorely need to swell their personal bank accounts. Trudeau will undoubtedly assure each of those freedom loving leaders that The Canadian taxpayers will be only too glad to triple said aid in the near future.

Alas, none of these marvels can come about until the next election, the end of which will undoubtedly end in a victorious Liberal party under the again glorious name of Trudeau.

Sooo many comments about how he is a "dead man".... I could name 5 that were as bad to not only for a country but the globe. "we can't talk badly about the dead".... Typical canadian attitude... Hide your head in the sand..... Trudeau tried to ruin canada for his own wealth.... There... I said it... Shame on me for taking the blinders off

I think thats a very good question. To me, it seems like he has been pushed into it, vs someone wanting it and then gathering support, even if that support was waiting and eager to be asked. So yes, there were people who wanted him to run, and would surround him with support, but I think that is different.

I can see the hesistation as he is taking over the 3rd party.

This is far different the Layton wanting to lead the 5th Party and building, or Harper making a quick move to Unite the Right for the interest of obtaining government.

In each case you could see "who" was driving the bus.

And yes, Unless Bob Rae leaves politics, he is so full of himself and his views that he will be behind the scenes, welcome and wanted or not....

That really only proves that whoever's answering polls on CBC (or Maclean's or whatever) doesn't have a clue what Trudeau was really about.

We're still paying for the debt he accumulated to finance his legend. His grandchildren will still be paying it. He did more harm to this country than any PM in Canadian history.

The author of the article in question is also not exactly a right-wing hack. I've read some of his other stuff and one of his books describes the time he spent with the freedom fighters in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation as well as on the borders of Kashmir with Pakistani military. He's deeply anti-imperialistic and has a beef with autocracy, thuggery and bullying.

That proves to me that he is not as smart as people think. It is pretty blatant that he is only being pick for his name, and you would think he would have picked up on that, and not let them use him to restore the great liberal brand. And It also shows the liberal party has not learned a thing while being out in the woodshed. Tells me the same old guard is still running the party and will do anything to win, instead of just coming out with a good plan to beat harper.

That's the question, isn't it? A lot of people are feeling cynical about the Liberals, and they've been forced inot the posiiton of having to re-prove themselves.

I voted CPC in 2006 partly because I wanted to give the Liberals a chance to "shake off the deadwood".

They never did, at least, not yet, and I voted Green in 2008 and 2011.

I have high hopes, and am a Liberal member.
