In the early nineties we used to stay at a hotel on the river not far from the Bahnhof. Between it and the shopping area of Zeil there was a long park that was always full of addicts, you would see guys in vans distributing clean needles. Then one day they were all gone. Don't know where they went or why.

OK, I'll try to quickly explain the difference between Germans and Americans when it comes to politics. Yep you have your small fringe groups similar to our Trump Nazi Republicans but their numbers are small and insignificant. They're generally laughed upon. 

What you have in Germany is we  the people against the government, there's no division amongst Germans when it comes to that. Politicians who try to f*CK with their social security or healthcare, wages or quality of life or make any remarks that indicate that they're not fully behind these programs which benefit the average man get run out of town on a rail. Tell Germans that to balance the budget we're going to have to cut healthcare or social security and you toast.
