No, America doesn't want to run Canada, the Provinces will become independent like Australia and New Zealand, Quebec will be a republic. IMO Canada should just be a republic union with a loose central government and as much power to the provinces as possible. Things like defense and other truly national concerns can be the domain of the feds. It's in their interests to form a political union to act as a power bloc internationally at the very least. Canada can't be a republic, the foundation of Canadian constitutional law is the Treaty of Paris 1763 and associated British North America Act. You can't just throw a switch and presto Canada is a republic, you'd have to write an entirely new constitution from scratch. Good luck with that, Canada would cease to be in the process anyways. Not at all. Better off with no union at all. Confederation simply put that provinces at each other's throats, things would be much better without Ottawa in the way. Yzermandius19
Scheer panders to Blue Liberals in Ontario as his entire election strategy, and he gains no ground with them whatsoever. What a lightweight. Edited October 22, 2019 by Yzermandius19
Dougie93
If you look at the election map, you can see the different countries inside Confederation. BC, Western Canada, Northern Ontario, Southern Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. If you decapitate it, remove the British Crown, all that flies apart and doesn't come back together. That's why you are stuck with the Crown, that's why they don't open the constitution up. Confederation can never be a republic, it is only a legal construct of the British Crown. Dougie93
So let's charge our glasses and toast the Commander-in-Chief. Liz Windsor is the boss, baby, whether the Canadian commies like it or not. God save the Queen, the Maple Leaf forever. <toasts>
bush_cheney2004
Looks like the Liberals will end up with a lower percentage of the "popular vote" than the Conservatives. ...reminds me of another election where the winner was declared "illegitimate". No doubt the Canacucks will whine about it just the Democucks do. Some people think they live in ancient Athens with the white and black balls Tho they wouldn't actually like it if they did, since democracy in of itself is a tyranny of the majority. Yep...Betcha corks were popping over at SNC Headquarters. I was really hoping for a broader coalition and what might have been a real opportunity to press for a PR Parliament in the next election. One would hope even Conservatives recognize they would be in a much better position right now if Trudeau had kept his promise about FPTP. Bollocks...
